Re: More Stolen Cheers - 20 years ago
I'm guessing that's what the Maryland folks are saying, too. "...and you, and you, and youandyouandyou" is the typical basketball cheer. Although MU is a possible replacement, Maryland is actually the University of Maryland, which would be UM. The KU basketball fans do that and point to the opposing teams' players. 5 guys a side fits pretty well with the cadence. . . Post Editeby tml5 - Hockey
Re: Final Weekend Playoff Possibilities - 20 years ago
The inherent stupidity of most ECAC policies aside. . . Would you use the standings to determine the #1 team, then figure out head to head among the remaining 11 teams to determine #2, then figure out head to among among the remaining 10... No, I wouldn't, but now you're mixing overall standings with tiebreaking procedures. They have a method for determining the standings, and then a separateby tml5 - Hockey
Re: Final Weekend Playoff Possibilities - 20 years ago
Why would dropping the bottom team make more logical sense than advancing the top team? And why would dropping the bottom team *and* advancing the top team at the same time make more logical sense than reapplying? I've had to work through tiebreaker systems for bizarre summer league tournament formats, and what I found was that the weird reapplication of tiebreaker rules that the ECAC usesby tml5 - Hockey

Re: Dave McKee vs. Yann Danis - 20 years ago
After looking at those numbers, my question is: Why didn't Walsh win the award? I mean, the guy had by far the best win percentage, second best save percentage, best goals against average, and played for one of the best teams in the league (at least in the RS). Of course, that last bit probably hurts his chances at the award, but still - he had an incredible year. I think you're right that seby tml5 - Hockey
Re: Dave McKee vs. Yann Danis - 20 years ago
Jonas had a marginally better save percentage, a better win percentage, saw far more shots, and played (and started) more games than Underhill. He also played behind one of the worst defenses in the league and still managed to post a very good goals against average, including two shutouts. You could make a case for Jonas using a purely statistical argument, since the only category in which Undeby tml5 - Hockey
Re: Undergrad tix next year - 20 years ago
As a grad student, I think this is a *terrible* idea. As an alum and a fan, I think the whole "you MUST wait in line for 2 days to get hockey tickets" business is BS, too. Hockey ticket lines should be simple, but apparently everyone in charge thinks they are complicated processes requiring huge amounts of planning, forethought, and supervision. It also seems like they want them toby tml5 - Hockey
Re: 1/31: Cornell 1 Colgate 2, final - 20 years ago
Didn't see Saturday's game, but Colgate was not trapping on Friday. Colgate consistently had one forechecker coming in low to stop the drop pass from the forward to the D on the breakout, and flushing that forward to the second forechecker coming in at an angle towards the boards. The trap typcially features a single forechecker that flushes the puck carrier towards the outside, into the teethby tml5 - Hockey

There's really no way to tell without knowing the severity of the injury. IN fact, there are a number of injuries which could be diagnosed as a separated shoulder during an initial examination (i.e. someone looking at the injury at the game without the benefit of x-rays or an MRI), so it's not even clear that the injury is a separated shoulder. Basically, if it's something like a mild rotator cby tml5 - Hockey
Re: sign idea that's come too late - 20 years ago
I seem to remember a list of Cornell sports that presented Football and Sprint Football as separate "sports" - although now that I think about it that may have been a list of teams. Doesn't make much sense to me that they would be considered different sports, although I guess there are rules differences. Anyway, lots of weird things like that - I think indoor and outdoor track are conby tml5 - Hockey

As far as I know, Ultimate is a club sport at Harvard (and at Cornell - and pretty much everywhere else). I think the difference between the numbers that you've posted is the difference between teams and sports. Harvard might have 37 distinct varsity sports, and still support 50+ varsity teams. For example, ice hockey is one varsity sport, but two varsity teams. Field hockey and football wouby tml5 - Hockey
Re: Brown 3 Cornell 3 Final OT - 20 years ago
The first goal didn't look in. You don't have to take my word for it, though - the red light didn't come on, and the Cornell players didn't even break stride. Usually, at least one of the guys on the ice will start to raise his arms if the puck goes in the net. Murphy may not have had a great angle on that one, but nobody gave him any reason to believe that the puck went in. It sounded like iby tml5 - Hockey

I have been to Aiello's, and was quite impressed. Very good overall, and excellent for the price. Don't go unless you like garlic. I'll try Nirchi's if I'm ever out that way. Thanks for the recommendations all! I'll give Lucatelli's a shot sometime.by tml5 - Hockey
Re: Ivy League booze? - 20 years ago
I'll have to try Luccatelli's. As for Angelina Centini's (that's the name of the place I was thinking of before), I'm with Age - underwhelmed is the perfect description of how I felt after eating there. Small sample size, to be sure, but the marinara sauce was pretty blah. The sausage was good, as was the salad bar, but overall not a great meal. Accordian guy? Re: Ivy League booze? - 20 years ago
You're right, Age. That was unfair. Sorry, I was being lazy. For the price, Vietnam is amazing (it's like $5 a meal, and significantly better food than Hong Kong and the Little Thai House II, which are comparably priced). I think it was also a generally bad choice of words on my part - I like Four Seasons now and again. Their Kimchee is good, which is more than I can say for Collegetown Caby tml5 - Hockey
Re: Ivy League booze? - 20 years ago
Three Korean. There's a Korean BBQ place near Aladdin's, that looks downright terrible, to go with Collegetown Cafe and Four Seasons. The Asian Noodle House, formerly known as TAP, serves a variety of noodles, but seems to be mostly Vietnamese or Thai. I've heard nothing good about the place, but I've never been. So the count is - 1 Vietnam (sic), 1 mixed Asian noodles, 2 Thai (Lemon Leaf andby tml5 - Hockey

USA College Hockey Magazine - 20 years ago
Hey everyone. I'm cleaning out my apartment, and have a stack of old USA College Hockey Magazines if anyone wants the Cornell pieces from this year. I have the issue with Bâby and Murray on the cover, and the FF issue with LeNeveu, Gare, Potulny, and Nystrom on the cover. There were also one or two issues that had Cornell as the ECAC lead article, although no players appear on theby tml5 - Hockey
Re: Is this just b.s.? - 20 years ago
Careful - T-Mobile is MUCH MUCH MUCH better than Sprint, except in Ithaca, or New Jersey, or. . . Ask some people in your local area before you switch services. Sprint's pretty good in some places, and atrocious in others. Sprint tends to be good in major metropolitan areas, Ithaca (don't ask - I guess it's the Cornell thing), and around major highways. But it's not always just an urban/ruby tml5 - Hockey

Re: NYC area roads, traffic, and construction - 21 years ago
One other thing that might slow you down - getting in and out of NYC was a nightmare last weekend. Every train I got on was delayed for a good half hour right outside of Penn station, and I had a friend get stopped outside of the Lincoln Tunnel for nearly an hour. I suspect it's partly coincidence and partly due to increased security for the war (sweeping the trains and things). I don't know iby tml5 - Hockey
Re: Princeton Game - anyone going to New Jersey? - 21 years ago
I can never remember where the Rusty Scupper is, exactly, but I don't think it's that far from the rink. Probably not walkable, though I could be wrong about that. If it's walking distance, it's a good place to go - pretty good food and a fully stocked bar. Good Time Charlie's is a great restaurant (or it was - haven't been in years) but it's probably a 10 minute drive from that area. For walby tml5 - Hockey
