Re: Cornell vs. Clarkson, Game 2 POSTGAME - 18 years ago
nyc94Either way, we should end up in the late game since we can't play Dartmouth and they would presumably want the early game. The ECACHL site says that the highest and lowest seeds automatically get the early game.by David Harding - Hockey

RichH When you have 3 things to look at, (puck, green light, red light) it's a tough call. Teet's reactions aren't 0.1 seconds fast and the green light was on before the red light despite the puck in the net. That happens. With the help of a friend, you can test your reaction time. Could someone remind us about reseeding during the ECACHL tournament? I seem to remember that they reseed after the first two rounds, but I don't see anything on their web site specifying that. The Rancorwhy build an elevator when you can use a ramp?A ramp takes up tremendously more real estate. It has to be very gentle - think of a) a runaway wheel chair and b) propelling yourself uphill in a wheel chair - and it also has to have flat resting spots every so often. You would need to do a whole lot of digging to make an accessible ramp from the concourse level down to ice level.by David Harding - Hockey
Re: "In Search of the Great American Hockey Novel" - 18 years ago
Speaking of hockey literature, how about children's books about hockey players? I remember reading a few in my youth, but I don't remember the authors or titles. There are more now, Matt Christopher having cranked out a shelfful by himself. I don't think any of the ones I remember were by him, but I could be wrong. 1) An American, playing for Dartmouth, is signed by the NY Rangers. This isby David Harding - John Spencer Is Dead

BeeeejYou call them "sheep" as if they've been misled, or even forced, into watching poker instead of hockey. There's a reason ESPN shows more poker than hockey, and it's because more people want to watch it. Maybe that'll change after the vast majority of them realize they'll never get rich playing poker themselves, maybe not; but it's not like someone's holding guns to their heads rby David Harding - John Spencer Is Dead

Re: OT: speed skating - 18 years ago
canuck89This is the exact concept on which skates work. I do not know if it occurs on skis, due to the whole issue of lbs/inch that you mentioned. On skates though, the thin (and short) blade creates so much pressure that the ice indeed does melt and allows minimal friction (at least less than "skating" on ice itself). Here's an explanation of the current understanding of how ice skateby David Harding - Hockey

I grew up calling the thing we strained pasta in a collander - a bowl with holes in it. The thing that looked like a small bowl or cup made of window screen with a heavy wire handle was a seive. It was good for sifting flour and powdered sugar and for removing the lumps from granulated sugar. It was fun to play with in the sand box, too, where the lumps that we separated from the sand had beenby David Harding - Hockey

The effective "seive" that Jim and I remember from 1973 was not a jabbing but slow chant as a long, drawn out wail or moan. The single sylable was drawn out for perhaps five seconds, then repeated immediately.by David Harding - Hockey

Bâby scores a goal Chicago regained its advantage, 3-2, when the squad broke into the offensive zone, three-on-one. Stewart skated all the way in with the puck after taking control of it in the neutral zone and slipped it beneath the stick of a Knights defenseman and onto the tape of right wing Stephen Bâby, who put the puck away from outside the crease at 7:37 of the third period.by David Harding - Hockey

Jim HylaThe best, and most annoying, sieve cheer that I've heard was Wisconsin at the 1973 NCAA tourney at the old Boston Garden. They did a slow, slow sieve cheer, and everyone could keep up. The way we lost that game ground it into my mind forever. I agree. That was haunting. I can still hear it.by David Harding - Hockey
Re: Lynah not ready for fall opener? - 18 years ago
jkahnIf things are properly mobilized beforehand, there's no reason why the job can't be done between March and September. You just need to make sure everything is ready and well planned out beforehand. I've seen a 200,000 sq. foot manufacturing plant with 28,000 sq. feet of office space be built in that timeframe, and that was starting with a greenfield site with no electric, gas or running waby David Harding - Hockey

Re: Ithaca Journal on Lynah Renovations - 18 years ago
I'd be very surprised if the City posts a copy of the plans, but they should be available for review at City Hall. If they were going to put the plans on-line, it would have been before the meeting to allow public comment, but that's not typical procedure in communities I've paid attention to.
