Re: CU in Elmira? - 17 years ago
At the end of the O'Byrne story in Friday's Ithaca Journal we find this report. Cornell notes: Schafer said construction on the Lynah Rink renovation is on schedule and they hope to have ice in the rink before the month is out. It still will be some time before they know for sure whether Cornell's early season games can be played at Lynah.by David Harding - Hockey
Alum in NASCAR - 17 years ago
ITHACA - In some ways, Chad Walter is the prototypical success story in the world of NASCAR racing. He arrived in Charlotte, N.C., in 1993 with little experience, but with a dream of hooking up with a race team. He started on the ground floor, sweeping floors and doing other menial tasks, before slowly working his way up the ladder to become a crew chief in NASCAR's Busch Series - now in chaby David Harding - Other Sports

In my day you bought a coupon book. The right coupon got you into the game of the day, be it football, hockey, basketball, or whatever. For football, about a week before the game you could exchange your coupon for a reserved seat ticket. We would collect a bunch and some cash and get a block. For hockey, after your three days in line, you forked over the appropriate collection of coupons, somby David Harding - Hockey

Googling "Courtney Baker" and lacrosse, I came up with two references "We got some strong defensive performances," said St. Albans Coach Malcolm Lester, referring to seniors Courtney Baker and Michael Miller and junior Ian Crumley. "They played great all year. They're aggressive, steady and talented." Although Landon went on to win the game by one point, theby David Harding - Other Sports

The travels of Joe Boulukos - 17 years ago
After being activated by the Chicago Machine on Friday, June 30, Joe played in the game againt the Long Island Lizzards and scored two goals. The following Friday, July 7, he was traded to the Philadelphia Barrage, who promptly traded him to the Balimore Bayhawks. He did not play for the Bayhawks the next day, July 8, and the team was idle this week, July 15. There really seems to be a treby David Harding - Other Sports

We had a fun time. 67 alumni, family, and friends. Our seats were in the full sun and it was scorching, so the group broke up and most of us found seats elsewhere. Alumni from the the classes of 1946 to 2006. Several old soccer players. I learned that in February the Midwest Regional Office added a deputy director to the director and associate dirctor already on staff. The deputy is inby David Harding - Other Sports

For whatever reason Joe did not play in Saturday's game. He is still listed on the roster. Earlier in the week the team had traded away another midfielder in exchange for a third round pick in the 2007 draft.by David Harding - Other Sports
Re: NCAA Rules meeting - 17 years ago
Embellishment. The committee is concerned with what seems to be an increase in players using deceptive tactics to draw penalties. While the focus on obstruction and hitting from behind may have contributed, embellishment must be penalized. When players gain and advantage and draw a penalty, they must trust officials to make the call and not embellish the penalty. This is also interesting, espeby David Harding - Hockey
Joe Boulukos scores for Chicago machine - July 2006 - 17 years ago
Joe Boulukos made his first appearance with the Chicago machine on Saturday and scored two goals in the team's seventh consecutive loss. ...The Machine's lone bright spot of the quarter was collegiate draftee Joe Boulukos' first career Major League Lacrosse goal. Re: nickled and dimed [even as alumni] - Cornell Alumni Magazine - 17 years ago
You leave me feeling a little better, but your comment about being "thin-skinned" is exactly what worries me. Perhaps that is just the administration, and the Board of Trustees is more stable. Is the model that CAM gets an ear-mark in the budget? The measurment of increased donations with increased contact is not too surprising, but is certainly nice to have documented.by David Harding - Other Sports
Re: nickled and dimed [even as alumni] - Cornell Alumni Magazine - 17 years ago
I pay my class dues and I read pretty much every issue of CAM cover-to-cover. It is a rare article that I give up on in the middle. Making it available to all alumni would seem to have some advantages, presumably including increasing the advertising revenue due to the increased circulation. BUT, I really fear accepting a subsidy from the University. That can't be a stable arrangement, and theby David Harding - Other Sports

Any idea what the limit on the number of players is? In college it's 18 plus 2 or 3 goalies. Here I see 19 plus 2 goalies for every game and two others who have played. That mean a limit of at least 20.by David Harding - Hockey
Re: McKee added to World's roster - 17 years ago
It's nice to see McKee's "club" still listed as Cornell. I'm not sure the stats are 100% reliable. They have a couple players listed as having played in 1 game, but nobody else is listed as playing in anything less than 5 games. It's hard for me to imagine them dressing fewer players than they are allowed.by David Harding - Hockey

The first time I ran public office I won by a single vote. At lunch in the company cafeteria that day the conversation came around to the election and someone from my town happened to be at the table. I told him to vote for me, and he told his wife. That tipped the balance. A couple of years ago we had a bitter race for city council (in another ward) that ended in a tie. They flipped coiby David Harding - Other Sports

WillRRobbWillR Actually she isn't even pragmatic. She may however be delusional. Only if the vote would have been tied in the absence of her voting and she breaks the tie does her vote actually count. I am not arguing for all of us to stay home on election day, but we might want to tone down our expectations come the next election if we really think we count.
