Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Sucks - 14 years ago
Jim HylaFYP, to emphasize the changes. S'cool. Seriously, both Harvard and Clarkson have been woefully inconsistent over the last few years, and it's not good for anyone. Just imagine what this year would be like if both were their normally competitive selves? I think the ECAC would be back to national relevance. Only Q, Union, and us? Not so much.by Scersk '97 - Hockey

3 of 4 on a weekend that, as JTW mentioned, has always been a "trap" weekend for us is pretty good.by Scersk '97 - Hockey
Re: Sucks - 14 years ago
Beeeej gored Actually that is an interesting point of discussion. What do you guys think of Roll's future? This is his 7th season and he is essentially .500 for his career. Including this year, two of the last 4 will be losing campaigns. The two best years were his first two with his own players, but they've declined since. How long will Clarkson keep him? From our prespective, the longer tby Scersk '97 - Hockey

From collegehockeystats.com: GP G A PTS 15 Colin Greening 113 45 54 99 27 Blake Gallagher 109 26 54 80 Greening's next point will be his hundredth non-exhibition point in a Cornell uniform. And, before this season started, I thought 100 points was probably out of the question for Gallagher. Boy, am I glad I was wrong. (PS: I hope Greening's goal scby Scersk '97 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 3 BU 3 (Final) - 14 years ago
ugarte If I was going to blame anyone for blowing the late lead I'd have to say "the people in Section 415 that started Winning Team/Losing Team with 4 minutes left in the game." Wow, that's dumb. Everyone knows that "winning team, losing team" is only done with minute(s) left.by Scersk '97 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 3 BU 3 (Final) - 14 years ago
Scersk '97 Anyone have a good angle on it? Lauren '06The only thing I could determine from the Redcast on that third goal was that the ref behind the net was pointing emphatically at it, so there was no question at least in his mind. Lauren, I meant that I'd like to hear from anyone who was at the game and was not that particular ref, i.e., I would like to know whether Ritchie should've blowby Scersk '97 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 3 BU 3 (Final) - 14 years ago
I concur that, from what I could see on Redcast, that third goal looked pretty sketchy. Anyone have a good angle on it? (Besides Ritchie?) And however braindead B Nash's penalty was in the late third, the crosscheck and slash by the BU player that came before it were also pretty damn obvious. There was some nasty stuff from BU going quite uncalled in the final frame.by Scersk '97 - Hockey

2 Boston.com article about Bitz promotion. He gives a nice nod to Schafer. Boston.com A very nice nod. One wonders if it has gotten around the various pro leagues that Cornell is a "safe" place to leave your prospects; i.e., Schafer et al. will teach them to play the game right, especially with regard to defensive responsibility.by Scersk '97 - Hockey
Re: CU on TV - 14 years ago
My favorite part: There will be a cash bar, with the BU Pep Band setting the mood. Either that should have read, "The BU Pep Band will be there, with the cash bar setting the mood," or the BU Band repertoire is deep in light jazz.by Scersk '97 - Hockey
Re: Quinnipiac 3 at Cornell 2 postgame - 14 years ago
HockeyManI really had a feeling we would tie it in those final frantic minutes. I felt the same. I don't like what makes the comebacks necessary, but I have the feeling that this team can come back on anybody and from any (reasonable) deficit.by Scersk '97 - Hockey
Re: Quinnipiac 3 at Cornell 2 postgame - 14 years ago
MattShaf (1) We needed a better game out of Scrivens. The goal in the last minute of a period was an energy killer and the third goal was soft. Yale and Q are clearly the class of the ECAC, and Scrivens has had some breakdowns in both games. Let me begin by saying that in no way have I ever been a Scrivens apologist. He wanders and flops far too much for my liking, But I don't think he playedby Scersk '97 - Hockey

MattShaf just two notes: (1) We needed a better game out of Scrivens. The goal in the last minute of a period was an energy killer and the third goal was soft. Yale and Q are clearly the class of the ECAC, and Scrivens has had some breakdowns in both games. (2) This is a continuation from last year: teams with real speed give us problems. We fail to either effectively forecheck or to clog up tby Scersk '97 - Hockey

Re: Cornell 4 - 0 Princeton; 2nd intermission - 14 years ago
upperdeck the schools are losing money on this deal, from what i have heard we are lucky there is any video at all. say 100 people watch hockey and pay $7.. is that enough to cover the cost of producing the game, sending someone(1-3?) to the game say 4-5 hrs of time and equipment costs on top of the other costs of bandwidth, CU says it costs them money for the video feed so somehow they are paby Scersk '97 - Hockey

Re: Cornell 2 Yale 4 (Final) - 14 years ago
RichH This was something that we could NOT figure out last year, especially in the ECAC final. Yale comes at you HARD and doesn't hesitate. If you make one flub or uncertain stickhandle, they are ALL OVER YOU instantly and usually strip the puck and skate past. It's been a long time (probably since the SLU teams of around 2000) since we've seen this aggressive a forechecking team as an opponenby Scersk '97 - Hockey

scoop85 margolism Sucks lost 5-1 tonight to Quinnipiac Maybe our win over Sucks wasn't as great as I thought it might be. Actually, what I take away from it is that Quinnipiac is a force to be reckoned with this year.by Scersk '97 - Hockey

nyc94 For unknown reasons USCHO has Pairwise Rankings up already as well as Bracketology by Jayson Moy. It's only worth noting because Cornell is currently 8 in the PWR which lands them in - wait for it - St. Paul. On the plus side, host Minnesota is not currently in the field. Perhaps it's the editors' way of indicating gently the stupidity of whoever keeps voting for BU in the poll.by Scersk '97 - Hockey

Re: Cornell vs. Niagara Postgame - 14 years ago
HockeyMan On the flip side, I love the offensive flair he brings to a team that needs it. He had a wonderful rush last night that could have led to a great chance. And he's key on the PP. For me, it's his lack of "offensive flair" on the power play that I find most frustrating. Like many of our defensemen, he seems fascinated with blasting the puck through people from the point. Re: intramural hockey gone :( - 14 years ago
Josh '99The bottom line, as I see it, is that college students want to have fun, will always want to have fun, and will find ways to do so. I don't think the fact that the ways they find to have fun might be different from the ways we had fun necessarily means that college life is getting lamer. I hope you're right, but it seems to me that, more and more, "kids these days" are forcedby Scersk '97 - Other Sports
Re: intramural hockey gone :( - 14 years ago
ajc69I'm more worried that this will never come back, as it is a giant pain in the ass to run, and in a few years nobody will fight for it anymore since everybody will have graduated. Unfortunately, this pattern of behavior seems to be one of the few things from which we can't protect today's students, whom society tries to protect from just about everything: college life gets lamer and lamerby Scersk '97 - Other Sports

This reminds me so much of Schafer's "adjustments" to start the 1996 season. No leadership questions on that team. I hope Cornell football begins to follow a similar trajectory.by Scersk '97 - Other Sports
