Re: UHN Pregame Thread (RIT and Denver too) - 14 years ago
adamw It's not the mid '60s '90s... be happy with what you have. FYP. Bart: What the hell is this? Lisa: It's one of those campy '70s throwbacks that appeals to Generation Xers. Bart: We need another Vietnam to thin out their ranks a little. Ungrateful, whining bandwagon facetimers. In Schafer I trust, because I was there when we were at our worst. When we start finishing last or next-by Scersk '97 - Hockey

Re: Why the hate/dislike of Cornell? - 14 years ago
cbuckser Scersk '97 No, McCutcheon. I'm still pissed that Brian McCutcheon didn't yank Parris Duffus until it was too late. It was Parris's worst game at Cornell, and both his play and body language showed that it wasn't Parris's night. I remain mystified that McCutcheon failed to detect the defeated look on Parris's face that was obvious from the 13th row of Section G. Well, the alternativeby Scersk '97 - Hockey

mnagowski Give My Regards Trotsky If only there was a way they could stop the pain of having to listen to us chant winning team losing team. Which reminds me... the first time Cornell and Union met in an ECAC game, back in January '92 at Union, the Big Red swamped 'em by something like 8-1, and the Cornell fans didn't do "winning team, losing team." Oh no, no, they (all right, all riby Scersk '97 - Hockey

Rita ajh258 I did some more digging last night and found a better bear. As long as we don't make more than 500,000 prints, I think we can use the bear royalty-free. I'm attaching the image and here is the altered design on CustomInk Btw, I'm a "he" I like this bear better. This kind of feels like an eye exam: Bear #1 or Bear #2? C #1 or C #2? . Thanks to the creative design tby Scersk '97 - Hockey

Josh '99Why Princeton? Oh, I doubt you'll ever need to root for Dartmouth in the tournament as long as Gaudet is coaching. Why Princeton? Because it's a country club, not a university. Because it's a bastion of WASPy-ness that goes far beyond what even this unibrow-plucking, argyle-socks-wearin', non-self-hating WASP can take. Because I hate that fucking double-double rotating P.by Scersk '97 - Hockey
Re: Greatest Cornell sports day ever? - 14 years ago
cth95 Willy '06 I think we have every right to be pissed off. Cornell is getting some serious national attention, and then Tiger Woods decides to do an interview and a healthcare bill gets passed. Goodbye front page. I know you are joking, but I actually did think it was a shame to open up espn.com and see Tiger Woods as the lead instead of a story from one of the great sports tournamentby Scersk '97 - Other Sports

Josh '99 Scersk '97 It's not even barely surprising that I agree wholeheartedly with Rich, but, seriously people, get over it: we taunt because we love.Except Harvard. We taunt them because they suck. We were talking about this after you left this morning. I might even root for Harvard in some situations. But never, never will I root for those pricks from Princeton. They I taunt becauseby Scersk '97 - Hockey

It's not even barely surprising that I agree wholeheartedly with Rich, but, seriously people, get over it: we taunt because we love. And, anyway, this was Union's initiation. If they're going to play with the big boys, they'll have to take their lumps just like everyone else.by Scersk '97 - Hockey

OK, the quote. It's not actually the quote, which was: "The Big Red are the dream-crushers, they play in games that end streaks and crush passion. They are the soul-devouring juggernauts of the league, because they are so systematically thorough in every aspect of the game that they will completely suck every ounce of energy out of your lineup. andyw2100 Jim Hyla Using USCHO Pairwise Predictor I can get us to 7, but no higher. I saw this, and was going to ask questions like "how many crazy results have to happen for Cornell to wind up at 7", or "what is a more realistic number", but then I decided not to be lazy, and start fooling around with the Pairwise Predictor myself. Re: Yale 2 at Cornell 1 (OT) postgame - 14 years ago
billhoward I think we're all trying to say that Yale is better than us. I'm not. I don't think that Yale is better than us. I think we're pretty even, but in a round robin against a number of teams with varied styles, especially including some CCHA and WCHA schools, I'll take us (regardless of what KRACH is saying right now). ithacat I think vision and instincts are only surpassed by Riley and Jillson on the team. If he puts the work in during the offseason he could be a pretty dangerous and crafty player. I had not yet exactly apprehended his youth, nor had I factored it in. I'll agree with both your diagnosis and prescription. Perhaps he'll turn into a better Barlow, who was himself a type of player that we hadnby Scersk '97 - Hockey
Re: Yale 2 at Cornell 1 (OT) postgame - 14 years ago
Trotsky billhowardI can think of Scrivens' play, the fact that we only allowed Yale one goal in sixty minutes, plus holding Yale to 0x5 on PP, and what else? That's a decent list but against that you can say we just got outplayed for big parts of the game. Another positive was Riley's play. Collins and Espo played well for stretches. There are things to build on, though obviously nothing you'by Scersk '97 - Hockey
Re: The Next Few Weeks - 14 years ago
I guess that what I mean is this: should we win out, I will start to expect a long run on the national level rather than, as now, just hoping for it. And I would retain that expectation no matter what happens in Albany or otherwise.by Scersk '97 - Hockey
The Next Few Weeks - 14 years ago
Take a look here at Whelan's handy-dandy summary of the rest of the season. (As if everyone doesn't already check it the morning after every game like I do...) A few observations/predictions: We, Princeton, Quinnipiac, and Colgate have a tough road home. In fact, Colgate has the toughest of all, because they have to play us. Even though they will finish 10th or 11th, their worst result eby Scersk '97 - Hockey

Josh '99 shand35 With the heavy snowfall in the area, has anyone heard confirmation that it's game-on?I haven't, but I would tend to assume the game will be played unless I heard otherwise. FWIW, New Jersey Transit, except for some busses, seems to be up and running, even in South Jersey. PATCO too. I would also assume that the game is still on. Re: Cornell 2 SLU 1 Postgame - 14 years ago
Taking a look at the individual PWR comparisons, our ceiling (if we win out) is pretty much a #2 seed, unless there's a whole lot of uncharacteristic choking by teams above us. The ECAC was just that bad OOC this year. Looking at KRACH, I think it shows that we're (considering a reasonable wiggle) realistically a top-15 team and possibly a top-10 team. It's pretty much Miami and Denver, St.by Scersk '97 - Hockey
Re: North Dakota Postgame 1/22 - 14 years ago
From my seat on The Internets, I would say that we and UND spent an extended portion of the 1st period feeling each other out and then traded woefully ineffective five-minute power plays in the second. We looked very good in the first few minutes of the third leading up to the goal, went into a great defensive shell for about 10 minutes, and were, in the end, reasonably lucky to preserve the winby Scersk '97 - Hockey

In football, the crushing 2000 loss to Penn (in Ithaca) with an Ivy championship on the line is only barely beaten by the 1995 crushing loss to Penn (in Philly) with an Ivy championship on the line.by Scersk '97 - Other Sports
