Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Bracketology Sunday - 19 years ago
Actually, Minnesota has two losses and a tie against UAA. If UAA wins tonight, they probably stay a TUC, and that's a hit to Minny which could help us flip them.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: Bracketology Sunday - 19 years ago
Ari: I havent done all the math, but my general impression is if we don't win out, one of the four teams ahead of us will have to lose TWO games in their tourney for us to get a one seed, and I'm not sure it even happens then, cause Michigan might sneak in. The most likely to do that, IMO, are Minny or BC.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Clarkson postgame thread (no scores updates) - 19 years ago
Usually our defense blocks most everything and then clears the blocked shots away. Last night, they weren't getting the job done clearing the puck from in front and getting it out of the zone. Clarkson's strategy in the latter periods was to just throw it on net, even from some difficult angles. They knew with the way our defense was playing, they'd have second chances. Re: Albany ticket suggestions - 19 years ago
I went to the Pepsi Center website, which forwarded me to Ticketshafter. I asked for a Lower Level Seat and that's what I got. Really, all you need is a way in the door. Two years ago I had an upper deck seat, but sat in the lower bowl for all the games.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: New Bracketology: We Get Hosed - 19 years ago
Actually, only if UAA/Wisco beats Denver in the semis. If Denver beats #4, they can all finish with one loss.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: Albany Roll Call - 19 years ago
Unfortunately, Roy, both politically and for your analogy, we (you, me, and Cornell) are all from blue states.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: Sat 3/12 Outta Town Scoreboard - 19 years ago
If Vermont B-Ball gets seeded in Worcester, their fans will have to pick between the two (though the NC$$ lists the Worcester games as sold out). Other than that, the nearest site to Vermont is Cleveland. They could make it there for Thursday's loss, and be back in Albany for Firday's hockey game at 4:00.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: Albany ticket suggestions - 19 years ago
If Vermont makes it, they will bring A CROWD. I remember them outnumbering us in Lake Placid a few years back.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: Albany Roll Call - 19 years ago
Section 106, Row H, seat 7. As if I'll be sitting. Wouldn't miss it for the world. CU in Albany!by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Clarkson postgame thread (no scores updates) - 19 years ago
Thanks, Drew. Your boys gave us a hell of a game. Let's hope the Red use it as a wake up call for Albany. God bless Dave McKee.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: New Bracketology: We Get Hosed - 19 years ago
Sorry, but getting two dates with the campus bombshell, without getting to that magical and all important third date just don't cut it. She ain't gonna sleep with you on the first date and probably not on the second either. Keep the babe you got and make plans with the bombshell after you get one last good one from your current girlfriend. A bird in the hand...by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: Sat 3/12 Outta Town Scoreboard - 19 years ago
Hadn't thought of it that way. That would be too cool.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: Albany ticket suggestions - 19 years ago
I just bought my ticket online: Section 106, Row H, seat 7. Not that it really matters. They made no attempt to enforce seating two years ago.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: QF2: Clarkson 2 @ Cornell 1, 1st per. - 19 years ago
Big Red sound real shaky right now. They'd better get their act together, and fast.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: QF2: Clarkson 1 @ Cornell 1, 1st per. - 19 years ago
Uh oh. Another Clarkson goal.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: QF2: Clarkson 1 @ Cornell 0, 1st per. - 19 years ago
That was fun. I read krose's post, then 20 seconds later heard the goal on the Clarkson feed. Ah, the pleasures of a dial-up connection.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey

Forgive him, oh powerful Woofing Gods.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: The current ELynah poll - 19 years ago
I'll knock your country, Pace. If it weren't for the stupidity of the Russian visa process, I'd probably have gone to Vladivostok during one of my trips to Asia. Unfortunately, the pre-Soviet visa requirements make spontaneous trips somewhat difficult.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: Tuesday at the Rink - 19 years ago
Jeez, Ben. Tell us how ya really feel. Actually, I don't think Berenson was making a joke. He really was trying to say that Michigan's trip to NH for the NC$$ constituted "choosing to travel east." At least he owned up to it being about the revenues they get from playing at home.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: [OT] Blue Ice - 19 years ago
It can't nearly be as bad as the college football team with blue astroturf, can it? WRT rule changes, move the goal line back to where it was, keep the attacking zones the same size and that will increase the neutral zone. Then, call the damn clutch and grab penalties, add no touch icing, and eliminate the red line, and you're done.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey

Wouldn't the proper sign be "Latulippe is a Pansyye"by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: ECAC Finals: game times - 19 years ago
Two years ago Schafer specifically requested the early game, because of the extra rest issue. If he's given a choice, I can't imagine he'd do differently this year.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: Terrible Red Towels - 19 years ago
Actually, the ushers at the Wacko handed them to you as you walked through the door. And they did it for two nights with two different sponsors. Of course, since the Flyers lost that series, I don't think I've ever seen anybody wearing one since.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: Terrible Red Towels - 19 years ago
I don't think it's that bad of an idea. If it would get some of the facetimers more into the crowd action instead of talking about what (or who) they're going to do after the game, it could have its benefits.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: Why are there no defense cheers? - 19 years ago
I remember one lax game against Hobart, where their fans would all sing "goooooal time. Gooooal time" when they had the ball in the attacking zone. We could always do that when we go on the PP at Lynah. One other thought is to go "Two minutes wasted...clap, clap...clap, clap, clap" after we kill off an opponenets PP.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: Band needs to learn Mexican hat dance - 19 years ago
I'll toss in my hat with the "Macho Man Must Go" side. My reasons: 1) Macho Man is a disco song. Disco Sucks. Gay disco sucks even more, sometimes quite literally. 2) It just looks stupid. 3) It does nothing to pump up the our team or intimidate the opposition (unlike Gary Glitter). 4) Many fans are actually turned off by it. 5) Memorializing the stupidity of an oppoby Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: [OT] Star Wars technology for safer rinks - 19 years ago
Actually, it doesn't take much to do a number on stainless tubing. Boil some salt water in stainless at pressure, and you can make it shatter like glass. We did it to one of our boilers at one of our H2 plants. I believe aqueous sulfuric and nitric acid will do it as well.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: 1979 Providence and John Olds - 19 years ago
It's hard to compare points then and now. We scored double digit goals in a few games while I was there. I can't imagine that happening any more. I would have liked to have Whitehead for four years, too. He was a player with a lot of heart.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey

Can you imagine the stink of vaporized fish at the Sucks game?by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: SLU to stay a TUC? (even counting post season?) - 19 years ago
DeltaOne81: I think SLUt need to win in the first round to stay a TUC. If they improved with their loss to Sucks, even losing to us and 'Gate should do the same. If they beat Princeton or RPI in round 1, their RPI can't drop, and then they'll play us, 'Gate or Sucks again, which should help their RPI again. They also have a quality road win which helps their RPI. However, if they lose inby Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
