Re: Good eats in Providence - 21 years ago
Some advice from a friend of mine in grad school at RISD: i can try to name a few places for you guys to go, but i warn you...providence is NOT new york...i repeat...NOT new york. so count on things closing early, have dinner BEFORE 10PM, and be ready for some fat girls with surly attitudes...though you might get lucky and find a cutey who is less surly and more girly. <sorry> Beeeejby Beeeej - Hockey
Re: Vote for Hobey Baker - 21 years ago
They will be checking their voting logs for IP address as well. If you have more than one e-mail address and choose to vote that way, do it from different computers, if possible in very different locations. (I suspect only truly gross violations will catch their eye - dozens of votes from dozens of different e-mail addresses but from the same IP address - but it's still better to be safe if youby Beeeej - Hockey
Re: Vote for Hobey Baker - 21 years ago
How is it, do you suppose, that Colorado College - with 1,900 undergraduates - has over 2,200 total votes for its two candidates, in a phase where each is allowed to vote only once? Certainly they have alumni (and maybe a few non-affiliated fans?), but this is ridiculous. C'mon, Cornell people, pull your weight! Put an ad in the Daily Sun! E-mail a few friends! Beeeej P.S. Re: FYI - No Reentry Policy - 21 years ago
Well, I guess you have certain options when choosing between bars that none of us frequents: Go to one that might be very crowded but that we know is good, or go to one that probably isn't very good... because otherwise it'd be more crowded. I'd much rather not stand around the Pepsi for an hour after game 2 on Friday equivocating over where to go. Hell, we know Ithaca like the backs of our haby Beeeej - Hockey
Re: FYI - No Reentry Policy - 21 years ago
Any decisions on bars? Well, if you're looking for an executive decision, I'll make one. I still think that, in the absence of a really good no-carding option (which there doesn't appear to be), Big House Brewing Company a few blocks down is our best shot. Or, we can just go hang out at the CHA headquarters at the Best Western. Beeeejby Beeeej - Hockey

Re: Win out or get screwed for the Big Red - 21 years ago
For me, it's all about the colors. I've gotten over it a little bit in the last year or two, but I've always hated our road colors. Seriously, we're the "home team" throughout the ECAC tourney - how cool would it be to remain the "home team" throughout the NCAA tourney (until and unless we play CC)? Re: No. 1 Section @ Pepsi - 21 years ago
No, but when USCHO, NESN, YES, and Cornell agree with the more recent ECAC page, it's a pretty strong sign. It's just very irresponsible of the ECAC not to correct the old page (or to leave it up and prominently linked) in the first place). Beeeejby Beeeej - Hockey

Re: No. 1 Section @ Pepsi - 21 years ago
Those guys at the ECAC really need to get their feces together, because I got my information from another page on their site - - that it made sense to get the information from at the time, and it claims the #2 vs. #3 game is the early one. Luckily, I remember which people I've told already, so I can tell them the correct information. And perhaps not surprisingly, the ECAC website doesn't hby Beeeej - Hockey
Re: Jolt - 21 years ago
First, caffeine doesn't always work instantly (unless you crush some No-Doz and snort it - it depends on how it's ingested). Second, although it can be a strong stimulant, if you're already exhausted, it's not necessarily going to keep you from falling asleep. Third, I don't understand why anybody would drink six Jolts when they could just have a 2-liter of Mountain Dew. At least it tastes gooby Beeeej - Hockey

I also have had the privilege of working with Murray in development, and he is a genial, professional, and absolutely hysterical guy. I consider him a friend and a mentor, and he was my co-pilot when I went to solicit my first $1 million gift for Cornell (which we slam-dunked, by the way). After playing, I think Murray reffed ECAC games for a while as well. Beeeej Post Edited (03-12-03by Beeeej - Hockey
Re: Reason for Best-of-Three? - 21 years ago
Primarily it's because the early rounds of the playoffs are individual match-ups, at campus sites, where it's far easier and more convenient to contemplate best-of-three sets over the course of a weekend. No classes for the players, no work for the fans. If you were to gather four teams in Albany and play up to ten games (I can't imagine anybody thinking best-of-three is a good idea for the cby Beeeej - Hockey

Re: 3/10 Polls - 21 years ago
From what I can see, your edited post now says that the committee should be allowed to adjust seeding to compensate for injuries earlier in the season, but should not be allowed to adjust seeding to compensate for injuries later in the season. How does that make any more sense than what you said before? Beeeej Post Edited (03-10-03 23:36)by Beeeej - Hockey
Re: 3/10 Polls - 21 years ago
Graham I: My point was exactly what you have said above... if a team's current roster is not playing well (for whatever reason), then they should be seeded lower than team who is currently playing well. Graham II: I do think, however, that seeding for the NCAA's should probably include some human discretion to account for known circumstances that the computer rankings don't capture (like injuredby Beeeej - Hockey
Re: 3/10 Polls - 21 years ago
I don't get it... first, from what I can glean, you're saying that a team that loses its star player down the stretch, thus losing its last five games, should be ranked lower than one that lost its first five games. Now you're saying that the NCAA should be able to take injuries into account, thus possibly ranking them higher to compensate for the fact that they would be better if they hadn't loby Beeeej - Hockey

Hard to imagine that, even with a three-week layoff, Maine would be any more "rested" after playing NoDak than we would be after playing the CHA champ. Beeeejby Beeeej - Hockey
Re: Last, Simplest Word on the New Criteria - 21 years ago
The selection show is televised, and what is the point of watching if everyone who cares enough to watch is 100% sure of what the result is going to be. I completely agree. So don't change the make-up of the tournament, potentially leaving someone home who deserves to be there under the published criteria - ditch the selection show. Seriously - the selection show is an archaic leftover from aby Beeeej - Hockey

From another post of mine on a similar topic: The most beautiful goal off a faceoff that I've ever seen at Lynah was from a face-off on the student side. Nov. 8, 1997, we were down 3-1 to Brown with 6:20 left in the game. Moynihan scored to make it 3-2 with 4:01 left, then during a stoppage with 1:25 left, Schafer pulled Elliott for the face-off in the Brown end on the Section B side. In a playby Beeeej - Hockey

...and whether or not you count those two extra games against Princeton as non-Ivy (or even non-ECAC), you're losing two possible other non-conference games. We already play 22 conference games and have room for only 7 non-cons on the schedule; where do you see there being room for four games against any of our ECAC opponents without giving up much more important opportunities? Re: Frozen Four - 21 years ago
That's $40 for each ticket to each game, by the way... $120 total. Even on eBay, the legal limit for a NY state event ticket is 120% of the cost (which can include processing fees, $1.50 each if bought through the lottery), so $145.80 is the most you should be paying if you can manage it. Re: Frozen Four - 21 years ago
As far as I know, tickets for the Frozen Four are officially sold only as a three-game package if you buy them from the NCAA, the arena, or a participating school. I believe you can only buy single-game tickets from individuals. Beeeejby Beeeej - Hockey
