Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Morris article - 20 years ago
Well, it reads as a pro-Morris article. To be in favor of a Div I program hiring Morris could be right, could be wrong --honestly, I'm not really interested in debating it-- but the article has the dressing of a news piece, not a opinion/editorial (the writer is not identified as an editor and the item appears on the "Sports" page, not the "Opinion" page). As an opinion piece,by jason - Hockey

Hillel, tremendous preview, thanks. I hope you're able to provide insight/analysis throughout the lacrosse season.by jason - Hockey
Re: Random Cornell hockey fan sighting - 20 years ago
Well, my wife (also a Cornell grad) claims that the first time she considered me in a romantic sense (we had friends in common and were both in the same lab course at the time) was when she saw me at a Cornell game (we were with two different groups that happened to be in adjacent rows) and our first official date was to Little Joe's and then a game. Boy, did I know how to show a lady a good timeby jason - Hockey
Coach's Lunch - 20 years ago
Going to my first Coach's Lunch this Friday. Anyone with experience willing to clue me in to what to expect? Anyone else going to be at it? Thanks.by jason - Hockey

Chris, Thanks for investigating that. I'll try to remember to change the website to reflect that the link is operational.by jason - Hockey

In other news: BU has just given up two short handed goals on the same pp.by jason - Hockey
Re: Game Thread: UVM 0 at Cornell 0 (1st Per) - 20 years ago
bra, Cornell has had several chances but are still snakebitten. I don't think UVM has had a threatening shot (not sure if they've had a shot, period).by jason - Hockey

Re: Anybody tape the games? - 20 years ago
I've had three people email me requesting the tapes and offering to make add'l copies, so I'll send them copies and hopefully once they have them they'll offer copies here to others still interested.by jason - Hockey
Re: Anybody tape the games? - 20 years ago
Everyone, I'll try to make a few copies of the games, but I can probably only make two or three sets of the games before my wife's patience with me hogging the Tivo runs out (I have to play the games back from Tivo so three sets of the games means about 15 hours of Tivo being unavailable for other viewing). If people are still looking for the games, email me at letsgby jason - Hockey
Re: Top 15 Results So Far - 20 years ago
Excerpt from Boston Globe article re Harvard - St. Cloud game: "Mazzoleni stacked his No. 1 line and it paid off. He placed Cavanagh between Tim Pettit (1 goal, 1 assist) and Tyler Kolarik (two assists) and they were dangerous. He'd kept them apart in an effort to produce balanced scoring. "Maybe I should have them play together and have the other three lines trap," said Mazzolenby jason - Hockey
Re: Harvard vs Princeton 12/16 - 20 years ago
I didn't look at it too closely to realize that the LiveStats (which is what I copied) was showing less than all players. Sorry it caused confusion. BTW, the recap is up at USCHO: . One thing it highlights is that Harvard is 1-5 against Princeton in their last six contests. Makes me think of how Dartmouth has vexed Cornell so much in recent years.by jason - Hockey
Harvard vs Princeton 12/16 - 20 years ago
I just went to Princeton's LiveStats and *gasp* they did it again! Princeton 2, Harvard 1. Goals 1 2 3 Tot Faceoff Shots 1 2 3 Tot P-Plays HARV 0 1 0 - 1 27 HARV 5 15 12 - 32 0-3 PRIN 0 1 1 - 2 32 PRIN 3 11 6 - 20 1-6 Harvard Sv GA Min Princeton Sv GA Min 30 Grumet-Morris, Doby jason - Hockey
Pictorial History - 20 years ago
Yale has a book out about it's hockey program: The most important item may be the note in the footer: "USCHO's Adam Wodon is currently working with Arcadia Publishing to create a similar Pictorial History of Cornell hockey. This is in the investigative stage. For suggestions or contributions, contact Adam Wodon."by jason - Hockey
Re: FISH - 20 years ago
Facetimer, Alex only spoke about what was acceptable to throw on the ice, he never said that throwing anything at a player was acceptable. Nothing should ever be thrown in an effort to strike a player, including fish. I don't care if the player is a prick or not or how well padded he is. Since I dared to challenge you I'll save you the time and just anoint myself a "facetimer".by jason - Hockey
Re: Lingo - 20 years ago
I'm familiar with "dipsy-do". I remember my grandfather and now my father (particularly my grandfather, an avid hockey player in his youth, fwiw) using it on occasion. See:by jason - Hockey
Re: Harvard/BC - 20 years ago
Still 2-2 at end of 2nd, lazy icing at end results in faceoff in Harv zone that BC is able to spin into a minor against Harv, so BC will have almost a full 2 min of pp time to start 3rd.by jason - Hockey
goalie depth chart - 20 years ago
Your comment suggests that McKee is #2 (and presumably getting starts because of a Marr injury), but I don't remember seeing anything originating from the team/coach that suggests that is the case, McKee very well may have the #1 spot even after Marr returns to full health. When I was talking about the goalies during a game chat, somebody (Whelan?) reminded me that Marr was a backup at Northeasteby jason - Hockey

TMQ has resurfaced at nfl.com: (With the next Cornell hockey game not until after Xmas, I figured some folks might be looking for something to help fill that time.)by jason - Hockey
Re: FISH - 20 years ago
The sentence about "double booking" was meant in jest (which doesn’t come across clearly) as a lead in to my point that I don’t believe Athletics is motivated purely by profit maximization. I’m familiar with the other sports played by Cornell student-athletes, so no need to suggest any. I dare say I was a "rabid" fan while at school (based on my attendance compared to friendsby jason - Hockey
Bertagna's latest at USCHO - 20 years ago
An enjoyable read. I logged many hours on rod hockey, so I may have enjoyed the first part better than others will. And with a nice reference to Cornell in his College Hockey for Dummies Guide. (Bertagna left behind the ECAC for HE, but I've always appreciated his continued effort to remember and cast the ECAC in a kind light.)by jason - Hockey
Re: 12/8/03 polls - 20 years ago
It seems like the agreement between polls has been stronger this season than typical (just my impression, no actual effort was put into trying to verify this ).by jason - Hockey
Re: FISH - 20 years ago
Assume that Athletics only cares about maximizing profits. The ticket line fiasco showed us that there was no shortage of student-purchasers, so, Athletics can in a sense have the pick of the litter and they're going to choose those who demonstrate a willingness to abide by their rules (it's irrelevant whether the rules are fair, they are their rules, they like them) and --I'm generalizing here--by jason - Hockey
Re: Ask the Coach - 20 years ago
The question I dare not ask (and even if someone did it would understandably go unanswered) is: "Is there a college hockey program that you'd be willing to leave Cornell to coach?". *Shiver* Just thinking about that makes me ill.by jason - Hockey
Re: Kid who disses our team - 20 years ago
One of the immutable laws of Cornell Hockey Fandom is that you never boo or insult our players. That dope should be given an earful by all the fans around him.by jason - Hockey
Re: Athletics: Throw Toys Instead of Fish - 20 years ago
So the band will play "Gonna Fly Now" and ... The way the Athletics announcement reads, the Rocky theme may bite the dust, too. But my point was (and you may not have been disagreeing with me) that an all a capella start to the third period will not have nearly the energy generated by the Pep Band's playing. And if the student section retalliates by using more profanity, I believe Atby jason - Hockey
