Re: Cornell - Colgate football - 13 years ago
Trotsky I assume it's Monmouth, NJ, alma mater of one of the Jersey Shore cast, IINM. (Or it might have been the girlfriend in "Clerks." ) I believe Miles Austin of the Cowboys went to Monmouth as well.by scoop85 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell - Colgate football - 13 years ago
Trotsky George64we lost to Colgate 7-60 in 1983.This was the only Cornell football game I saw as an undergrad. By the end, the Cornell part of the crowd was cheering for Colgate to score more. That Colgate team had a QB named Steve Calabria who was touted as a pro, but never made it to the NFL as far as I knowby scoop85 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell - Colgate football - 13 years ago
RedDog Actually, 2012 will only be Austin's second recruiting class....he has yet to recruit a player, having been hired in late January...... Can't afford any more injuries, but I see us competitive in the last five....with at least a couple wins... Hard to agree given yesterday's results. You seriously believe we'll be competitive with Penn this year?by scoop85 - Other Sports
Re: Red/White - 13 years ago
Al DeFlorio So...did anyone note anything of interest besides the uniforms? I've been wondering the same thing Seriously, not too long ago we had detailed analysis of the games from the likes of Ari and Elie. Now we seem to get a lot of drivel. I know some of the local regulars will eventually fill-us in, but are there any students left who care enough to let the rest of us know what is aby scoop85 - Hockey
Cornell Lax Beyond 2011 - 13 years ago
IL has posted a survey of the top junior/HS lax players in Canada in the classes of 2011 and 2012. Interesting that our only listed recruit in 2011 comes in at #33, but in 2012, we have 3 in the top 20, including #'s 3 and 10. While that might only be a coincidence, hopefully it's a sign that DeLuca and his staff are showing real success on the recruiting trail. The complete list.by scoop85 - Other Sports

Al DeFlorio scoop85 DeLuca appears on CU's interview series, Sidlines. It's the first time I've seen him interviewed at length, and I am rather impressed. He exudes leadership qualities, and I am even more convinced that the lax program is in the right hands. I'd have been happier if he'd included Ned Harkness in his list of the great Cornell coaches in whose footsteps he is following, but thaby scoop85 - Other Sports

Re: Polls - 13 years ago
I think we'll be relying on a lot of "grinder" type goals from guys like J. Devin and Collins. You have to hope that our more "high skill" guys -- think Esposito, Jillson and Roeszler -- will be able to continue the improvement that they showed toward the end of last season. Given the depth on defense that we seem to have with Gotovets and Brisson being added to our returnby scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Cornell lacrosse in 2011 - 13 years ago
TimV It will be intersting to see how much more attention the publication will pay to us now that they can use us to pimp their event, True, we've always been the ugly stepchild on IL, as we've never before played in one of their events.by scoop85 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell Gets Cancer - 13 years ago
I agree they need to bring in size, but at least the three kids they've gotten so far seem pretty skilled. Miller, from Ohio, seems like an especially nice get.by scoop85 - Other Sports
Re: ECAC Media and Coaches polls - 13 years ago
Given all the offense we've lost -- not to mention the ECAC's top goalie -- it's rather surprising that we're ranked so high. I look at it as the ultimate compliment to Schafer's coaching.by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 7 at Wagner 41 postgame - 13 years ago
I assumed this would be a rebuilding season, but I never imagined we'd get pounded by Wagner -- especially after Wagner was handled by Div. II Assumption the week before. Well, just keep in mind the rebuilding project Donahue had to undertake with the hoops program -- that turned out OK.by scoop85 - Other Sports

Incoming Lax Recruits - 13 years ago
Here's the list. No surprises from what has been previously reported. Seems to be a well-balanced group that adds quality and depth at all positions.by scoop85 - Other Sports
Re: Riley Nash (CAR) - 13 years ago
I have little doubt we'll be respectable, but hard to see us finding enough scoring to be among the top teams in the ECAC. Then again, everybody thought lax would take a step back last year, and they exceeded all expectations. Maybe being a bit under the radar will be a good thing.by scoop85 - Hockey

KeithK Justin Milo retired from baseball a few days ago (reported on minorleaguebaseball.com's Sally league transaction page ). Nothing really worked out for him did it? Strange saga.by scoop85 - Hockey

Calipari was also quoted in SI to the effect that he was prouder having 5 first-round picks than if his team had won the NCAA title. Weird priorities to me, but it seems consistent with his character.by scoop85 - Other Sports
Re: Tamboni to Penn State - 13 years ago
Once I learned that his wife was a PSU grad, and that she will apparently return to coaching field hockey there in some capacity, the entire picture crystallized. Total speculation on my part, but I don't think he takes that job under different circumstances. I wish him all the best, and if DeLuca is elevated to the top job I think we'll be just fine.by scoop85 - Other Sports
Re: Tamboni to Penn State - 13 years ago
I saw this post and assumed it was in jest. Sorry to say it appears to be true. It's stunning and disappointing, but no one should be "hurt" by his decision. PSU must have made an incredibly lucrative offer to Tambroni, and he had to look out for what's best for his family. I'm sure he agonized over the decision, as all indications are that he had a great love for Cornell and the Itby scoop85 - Other Sports
Re: Declucia to Penn State - 13 years ago
Sorry to lose him if true. But I'd be glad that he got the opportunity, and it'd be much easier to swallow than had he taken the Princeton job last year.by scoop85 - Other Sports

CornellCommodore It also seems that in two years, we'll be getting a Maryland All-Metro attackman, after a year at Deerfield. Hopefully this kid, John Hogan, can put to as good a use as Pannell did. He'll be a FR when Pannell is a SR, Mock, Gillum and Fiore are JRs. Sounds like a good team to me. Baltimore Sun All-Metro Hogan is a middie, not an attackmanby scoop85 - Other Sports
