Re: Cornell at Rensselaer - 13 years ago
Al DeFlorio MattShaf Tough, hard played game in both directions. Cornell really looked clueless on the Power Play until the overtime session. No set plays, paucity of shots. Guys couldn't decide whether to shoot the puck in and chase or carry the puck in and then set up the play. We looked much better playing 5-5 or 4-4 then man up. Overall, we shut down their power play, limited the changesby scoop85 - Hockey
The Devins - 13 years ago
Kudos to Joe and Mike for some really clutch play of late. I think we'll miss these two Seniors more than we might appreciate. Joe has great hands around the net -- reminds me a lot of Tim Kerr from the Flyers years ago. Joe seems to score every goal either off a rebound or on a deflection. I can see him garnering attention as a free agent this season, as it's not easy to find guys who have sucby scoop85 - Hockey

Jim Hyla If anyone in the Capital District can make a copy of the Union game, I'd like it. DVRing in Syr didn't work for me, and I guess because it's made in Albany, it's not rebroadcast here. It is rebroadcast in Albany on Sat and Sun. Thanks. Why would you want that debacle?by scoop85 - Hockey

redice He saw 3:59 ice time in the first period....It looks like his ice time was cut substantially after the first intermission. I wonder what this indicates.... I saw him at one point in the 3rd period where he and his line mates kept the puck in the Devils zone for quite ahwile. I thought he certainly looked like he belong during that shift.by scoop85 - Hockey

Re: RPI, Union at Lynah - possible outcome - 13 years ago
Scersk '97 Nothing like replying to yourself. Anyway, the ECAC leader primed for a fall? Princeton. Next week they play Union and RPI for the first time this season. Honestly, I expect us to be ahead of or tied with Princeton by the end of next weekend. A first-round bye is looking ever more reasonable. Looking at Greg's chart of ECAC points by place, one can note that in top-6 vs. bottby scoop85 - Hockey

mountainred This one looks like the toughest of all. VT appears to be favored in six weight classes. Cornell will need Frank and DJ to pull off mild upsets. Perrelli wins 7-5 at 125! Huge boost to our chances to win the team match.by scoop85 - Other Sports

Seems like football is recruiting some quality talent. Tyler Betros a safety/LB from Jacksonville Bolles HS has won back-to-back FL state championships in football and baseball. I wonder if he's going to try to play both sports at Cornell.by scoop85 - Other Sports

mountainred Buffalo 78 Cornell 66 @ Newman. An astounding 28% shooting night from inside the arc. How is that even possible? This is looking like a lost season for hoops, and if that is the price to pay for last season so be it. There is time out there for Courtney's first batch of recruits next season, but the rebuilding may not start until then. No real inside presence, and we are gettiby scoop85 - Other Sports
Re: general 2010-2011 basketball season thread - 13 years ago
I saw parts of BC's dismantling of South Carolina yesterday (aside: there was no one in S.C.'s arena for the game). It was a vintage Donahue-type performance -- great ball movement with lots of wide-open 3's. BC has better overall athleticism than last year's Cornell team, but doesn't have a Foote-like big man. They are likely not a top-20 team, but certainly will be competitive in what looksby scoop85 - Other Sports

Al DeFlorio Cornell shoots 64% overall, including 18 in a row, and 71% on treys, to beat Wofford 86-80 But oddly only went 11-21 from the line, and missed a number of FTs down the stretch that allowed Wofford to have a chance.by scoop85 - Other Sports

Re: WSJ: How Far Can College Hockey Go? - 13 years ago
KeithK Stan Baxter The State of Michigan is a unique place, 1 million people came out for the Detroit Red Wings Stanley Cup victory parade a few years ago. Detroit is probably the only major market in North America where hockey is the biggest sport, bigger than even the NFL. Hockey would be bigger than the NFL in other places too if there were more teams like the Lions. That's exactly what camby scoop85 - Hockey

Jordan 04 There's no record of it on the stat sheet, but IMO Kevin Boothe has played very well filling in at left guard for the Giants the last 4 weeks. He's rarely been flagged for a penalty - the one memorable one against the Eagles Cowboys, which brought back a touchdown, was a pretty poor call - and he's been a fixture on a line that hasn't allowed a sack in a month. Re: Cornell 4 Colgate 3 @ Newark postgame - 13 years ago
ajh258 BigRedHockeyFan It looks like part of Cornell's problem this year may be that the conference has improved. According to the newly posted pairwise at CHN, 8 of the top 25 teams are from the ECAC. We beat Clarkson and Quinnipiac, yet we are still 2-6. Did our league improve or did we merely start to suck? Edit: BTW, I wouldn't call Cornell attendance a "majority" althouby scoop85 - Hockey

ithacat scoop85 I'm at the Rock ... all I can say is thank goodness for the women If things continue the women may be outdrawing the men by the end of the season. It'll only take a 2,000 swing -- tickets are cheaper and you can sit where you want. Seriously, I can't believe how far the men have fallen. Well, I was a bit premature with my doom and gloom. Re: Brown at Cornell - 13 years ago
Good comments all. We've certainly been competitive in every game, but have trouble sustaining anything. I agree that most of the trouble has been on the defensive end, which I thought would be a strength. While things seem bleak at the moment, I do think we'll have some better outcomes this season -- hopefully starting on Saturday. Re: Yale 4 @ Cornell 2_ 11/19 - 13 years ago
Just caught the game off the DVR (awesome to see Lynah in HD!). 1st half of the game we were able to break out of the defensive end without much trouble and had the better of the action. But once Yale tied it at 2, they started forechecking aggressively and we were consistently pinned in our end. That being said, Yale didn't have an excessive number of grade A chances, but they did keep the puby scoop85 - Hockey
