Momentum for Brown & Yale - 10 years ago
While I agree it would be good to carry some momentum from the St. Lawrence win into this weekend, I always have to chuckle when someone uses a particular phrase that Mike Schafer was quoted as having said in this article: If you're going in the wrong direction, doing a "complete 360," probably isn't in your best interest...but I'll take it now. Jerseygirl marty Jim Hyla marty RPI's Kasdorf likely out for season. Times Union 11-7-13 Come on Marty, Ken Schott reported that a day earlier. And if my newspaper wasn't under the forcythia I wouldn't have been a day late posting the TU article myself. Forsythia isn't leafed out this time of year. No excuse. Au contraire. Many retain their leaves until late fall.by Killer - Hockey
Re: Top Ten Band Playlist of All Time - 10 years ago
Larry72 Haven't heard this in ages from the band -- "Sweet Georgia Brown" Ahhh, Nancy Miller (not sure what instrument she played), taking her turn to lead the band for that one song each game, and wiggling that sweet...well, you get the idea.by Killer - Hockey

Re: HARVARD SUCKS - Tickets - 10 years ago
Lest anyone forgot, today is the day the tickets go on sale. Looks like they're going fast, so I guess most people are on top of this. I grabbed some in section 20, and checking back a few minutes later, there's a lot less availability. Of course, if history repeats itself, after today's rush there will probably be some mysterious release of more tickets down the road, but you never know.by Killer - Hockey
Re: HARVARD SUCKS - 10 years ago
Just got that e-mail saying that single game tickets go on sale September 4th. How nice of them to make our game not just "Premium," at $20 prior to gameday, but "Premium Plus," along with the Yale game, so they can charge $25.by Killer - Hockey
Re: HARVARD SUCKS - 10 years ago
It's the middle of July, 90+ friggin' degrees this week in Boston, Harvard's 3 fans are at their parents' house on Nantucket, and the new fan (class of '17) hasn't arrived on campus yet. Shouldn't they be putting Lynah East tickets on sale about now?by Killer - Hockey

Re: Men's Track Rises to #19 Ranking - 10 years ago
RichH Trotsky Are we actually improving overall, or is this just the rise and fall of specific sports? It sure seems to me with hindsight that Cornell was, in the main, awful in the 80's and 90's, and that the last 15+ years have seen a rising tide. The release said this ranking system has only been in existence since 2008. I feel like the track teams in general have been very good for longerby Killer - Other Sports

Re: Quarterfinals at Q - 11 years ago
hypotenuse The second game- Reminds me of the Cornell-BU game in 197? In which BU beat us 9-0 at Lynah. (BU was later forced to forfeit the game, which was Cornell's first loss at Lynah in years) like this one, the game just got away from us. Hopefully we can wake up tomorrow with no hangover and get out act together. I remember that game all-too-well. 'Round about 5-0 last night, I startedby Killer - Hockey

Maybe someone on their staff went to BU and remembered that BU is 0-1 when outscoring Cornell 9-0.by Killer - Other Sports
Re: Cornell @ Hahvahd - 11 years ago
BearLover marty Ferlin Third Period - No Goal Jesus, what a horrible, horrible whistle... I was in section 1, so off to Girard's right, where we were screened from seeing the puck by Girard himself. Thought it was a quick whistle then, but seeing it from this angle, "horrible, horrible whistle," is about right.by Killer - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ Hahvahd - 11 years ago
andyw2100 Johnny 5The Fartmouth-cast last night was excellent. Could you tell from the replay how close to being a high-stick Dartmouth's second goal was? We were behind the goal, with a good view of the play, and I thought it was a high-stick. The Dartmouth radio announcers also thought it was a high stick...and they were about as anti-Cornell as any I've heard.by Killer - Hockey

RichH Al DeFlorio Killer I got mine at about 9:30 this morning and already there were a number of sections showing sold out and the rest with limited availability. I grabbed 6 in Section 1, 3 on one side of the section, 3 on the other.Same experience at about the same time this morning. Must be holding some tickets back, or some other new ploy to avoid the usual embarrassingly-large Cornell croby Killer - Hockey

Re: Harvard 6 Cornell 1 ECAC post-game & site critique - 12 years ago
Josh '99 jtwcornell91 Ronald '09 Robb I seriously doubt you'd get ANY local support in Montreal, either. There aren't too many Quebecois in the ECAC, and Montrealers are notoriously parochial about their hockey support. There are more Ontario kids in the ECAC, so if you were going to consider Canada (which you shouldn't) Ottowa or Toronto are better bets. I agree Montreal wouldn't make any senby Killer - Hockey

dbilmes Now that Harvard's basketball team is one and done, the Crimson Faithful can fill up Boardwalk Hall tonight to cheer on their hockey team. Is there really anything "ful" about them? Perhaps the Crimson Faithfool or Faithfail would be more appropriate.by Killer - Hockey

Beeeej RichH Beeeej Chris '03 Beeeej RichH Beeeej Still not 100% decided, as Daina has to work Friday evening... We're about 99.9% to head down on Saturday if Cornell beats Harvard, of course. We're probably about 20% to take Friday off and head down for the semis together - and if Daina doesn't take Friday off, I'm probably about 40% to head down Friday on my own. Hang on, let me get my calcuby Killer - Hockey
Re: Cornell Alumni in the Pros: March 2012 - Moulson 3/8 vs Devils - 12 years ago
RichH nshapiro Along those right-thinking lines, why doesn't the NHL scrap the stupid system and go to: 2-0 for a win 1-1 for a tie FYP. Thank you. I hate that a game becomes worth more points because it goes to OT. You want points? Then win or tie the game. The losing team should get zip, regardless of when they lost.by Killer - Hockey
Re: Lacrosse 2012 - 12 years ago
Totally agree. Winning yesterday would have been great. But by going down to the wire with the #1 team and having a chance to win in OT, they made a statement that they're as good as anyone. Now, add to the mix someone who is arguably the #1 player and where does that put them? Let's just hope that Rob's recovery is quick, complete, and done wisely.by Killer - Other Sports

BMac I highly recommend the Regent's onion rings with chipotle sauce. They may also have Rogue Dead Guy on tap. All in all, a very underrated place to go before a game. Mmmm, Rogue Dead Guy is good stuff. Double Dead Guy is even better.by Killer - Hockey

Here's a paragraph from today's Boston Globe regarding the BU-BC game: "Just 33 seconds later, it appeared BC had another goal. Freshman left wing Johnny Gaudreau threw the puck into the crease from outside the right post, but during the scramble in front, the officials said there was an intent to blow the whistle after they apparently lost sight of the puck, even though it appeared it waby Killer - Hockey
Re: HARVARD SUCKS - and this was only worth reading for about 10 minutes - 12 years ago
I don't know how long it will be before they fix this, but it's worth a look while it lasts. I guess Harvard figured they couldn't win with their own guys, so they took ours: Alas, it's been reset for tonight's game. Never mind.by Killer - Hockey

Re: Harvard-Dartmouth aftermath - 12 years ago
I'm reminded of a visit to a sporting goods store in Ithaca, maybe down on Seneca Street (?), back in the '70s, with one of my roommates and his non-sports-savvy girlfriend from Ithaca College. As we wandered around the store, she picked a cup, something she'd never seen before, put it over her mouth and nose, and asked if it was some sort of gas mask.by Killer - Hockey
