A decidedly non-Cornell team. Maybe because we're a team and not individuals.

Right you are. Hard to conceive of any other ECAC champion that has had such sparse representation on the all-league teams.

Now we just need to win in LP.

But the thing that really annoys me is having Alec McCrea left off. I mean he's the "Best Defensive Defenseman" and can't make the team, even third team!!!!!!!!

5 of them are 5 out of top 6 d'men in points. Only Kaldis disturbed it.

I guess that signals how they decide.

It's nuts that the defensemen are judged primarily on their offensive output, as shown by the selections.

I think that's an interesting pattern to observe, but it's still conclusory. Has anybody also checked, say, a list of all ECAC defensemen by +/- against these picks? Or number of blocked shots?

Yeah the first in +/- list is Amorosa, at #14. McCrea is third and we have 5/13 before Amorosa.

Well, okay, then.

Basing all-conference defensemen on points isn't great, but I do think defense can be hard to measure beyond the eye test. Plus/minus and blocked shots both help, but they only go so far. Points is a hard and fast stat, so I can see the appeal. Plus, high scoring defensemen tend to be star players.

Yeah, but.................leaving off your pick for "Best Defensive Defenseman" tells a lot. If you can pick that, you ought to be able to decide if he belongs on All-ECAC team.

They said no, but I'm glad he's on our team.

Maybe, but somehow they were able to decide on a "best defensive defenseman."

Maybe what you can do is to pick your top offensive forwards first. Then, for each of your candidate defensemen, see how many points your stud forwards scored when they played against each other.

True, such an isolated +/- is partly a measure of the respective teams rather than the individuals involved, but that's a necessary problem with all individual awards in a team sport.

ugarte

surprised that neither mccrea or smith made it onto any of the teams

No real argument here.  Vanderlaan is at least a 3rd teamer to me.  I wish Smith got more recognition.  Donaldson in my mind deserves the rookie team but that's probably #b31b1b glasses.

Note that 2nd place (and dead!) Union has even less representation than we.

margolism

Galajda named ECAC goaltender of the year.

I would have to imagine that this would remove Colton Point out of the running for ECAC player of the year.  One would think.

It's the Dryden Award. I'm all for using that name. Frankly, I think the national goaltender award should also carry that name.

You never know.  They do some pretty illogical shit.

Pretty much justified.

Semifinalist

The headline says semifinalist, but the list says finalist. Never look a gift horse in the mouth. ::deadhorse::

Well, NOW he's a finalist, although the list only went from 10 to 5 candidates.
