At first I thought you meant the Gates Hall at Stanford.  Took a Google search to see that there's one being built at Cornell too.  I feel old.

I think they broke ground on Gates at Cornell back in March of this year with target completion for the end of 2013.  I have seen it referred to in Cornell press releases as William H. Gates Hall and more recently as Bill and Melinda Gates Hall.  I'm not wild about the design or the location.

Quote from: George64Google donates space for CornellNYC Tech campus.
>>> The donation comes despite a connection between Google's co-founders, Mr. Page and Sergey Brin, and Stanford University, which had vied with Cornell for the Roosevelt Island space. Mr. Page and Mr. Brin started the company while they were graduate students at Stanford; they even made a video pitch to support Stanford's bid in the competition that the city set up.

They're good losers or they want a pipeline into the talent coming out of the tech campus. The NY Times created a story here. I'm surprised they didn't use the word "ironically" to buttress the story.

Good AP article in today's WSJ and elsewhere.

Quote from: George64CornellNYC announces first hire.

That is simply an awesome pickup.  My company was founded by her sister, Judy, and a number of its early employees were PhD students under Deborah at USC.  It's harder to find a better person who is great at what she does and can really bring people together and build a team like that, so if this is the first hire it's a great indication of things to come.

Two NYT articles related to Cornell NYCTech (Roosevelt Memorial and East River turbine).  If global warming continues, NYCTech buildings should include some very large sump pumps.
