Re: McKee - 16 years ago
ForkEmDevilsI'll start my first post with a bang and shocker for many on this board. It is time that everyone must realize McKee was the product of a defensive orientated system at its height. I don’t think you will find major opposition to that on this board. While yes, it was clear that McKee benefited from a tremendous system, let’s not forget some of his major accomplishments. Re: Is it October yet? - 16 years ago
We’ve been spoiled here at goaltender U. While a breakout year from Davenport would obviously be excellent for the team, if we are relying on any one single player to put up All-American-type numbers to determine the fate of the team, well…by Doug '08 - Hockey
Is it October yet? - 16 years ago
So on the eve of the first day of classes, I thought I’d post a few thoughts on the upcoming season: Keys: 1) Special teams. I think this will be the single most important aspect of the season. If the PP and PK can return to the form we have come to expect in recent years, it is hard to believe this team won’t be successful. 2) Maintaining intensity. Hockey is a game where passion is ofteby Doug '08 - Hockey
Re: New Recruit for '08 - 16 years ago
ithacatI wonder if it's for 2008 or 2009? Cedar Rapids' press release doesn't indicate which year Mihalek's heading to Cornell. The BRP and the USHL Blog speculate it's 2009. Chris Heisenberg lists Mihalek as a 2009 recruit as well...of course, each might be making the same assumption. I'd be pretty surprised if it wasn't for 2009by Doug '08 - Hockey
Re: New Recruit for '08 - 16 years ago
Was 5-11 180 last year, looks like he will come in as either a 17 or 18 year old. Here are some of his prep stats:by Doug '08 - Hockey
Re: Cornellians who will see ice time in the NHL in '07 - 16 years ago
redhair34Would Doug have been a top 4 defenseman in the pre-lockout NHL? I'm not sure, but his skating would be less of an issue. I hope he improved his skating/foot speed this off season. This is a good point, I agree, the rule changes really hurt players like him.by Doug '08 - Hockey
Re: Cornellians who will see ice time in the NHL in '07 - 16 years ago
For one, I think Ryan O'Byrne will have a good shot. He played well for Hamilton down the stretch and had a great playoffs.by Doug '08 - Hockey
Re: NCAA rule changes (for '08-'09 season) - 16 years ago
Option 3 just sounds ridiculous. I don't see any need to make ANY changes. But if they do I would be shocked if they didn't pick the NHL-style approach.by Doug '08 - Hockey
Re: Romano will not be back next year - 16 years ago
evilnaturedrobotFor my money, Romano was far and away the worst defensive foward on the team last year. Not only did he add nothing as a checker, but he probably gave up the puck in his own zone, and in the neutral zone, more than any other foward. Again, ditch the +/-, it's a useless stat! It tells you nothing about the induvidual. Couldn't have said it better, agree 100%by Doug '08 - Hockey
Re: Romano will not be back next year - 16 years ago
It has been interesting to follow the progression of this thread, figured I’d throw my two cents in. While Romano’s flair and offensive potential are undeniable, I don’t think that his departure will have a significant impact on the team. He will be missed the most on the PP. Tony spent way too much time skating BACKWORDS, in large sweeping circle cutbacks often seen in Junior-level hockey.by Doug '08 - Hockey
Re: Ticket procedure for next year - 16 years ago
The buzz that I’ve been hearing is that because there was “minimal” dissatisfaction with last year’s procedure (read: no broken bones or ambulance calls), athletics will stick with something similar.by Doug '08 - Hockey

Great blog. I agree that we should be the ivy favorites at this point... although a lot hinges on staying healthy in my mind, I am worried about our depth.by Doug '08 - Other Sports
Re: Captains officially announced + freshmen - 16 years ago
Does anyone know how captains are chosen? Do the players vote? I think Scott and Sawada are good choices. Must say I am surprised not to see Seminoff’s name somewhere on that list, but that being said the fact that Greening, a sophomore will be carrying an A definitely says a lot about him.by Doug '08 - Hockey
Ticket procedure for next year - 16 years ago
I heard from a fairly reliable source that the ticket procedure will be somewhat similar to last year. In other words, some type of pre-registering, a preference given to seniors, and of course, a campout in Bartels. I think the Lynah stampede of two years ago has them hesitant to go back to any type of mass distribution.by Doug '08 - Hockey
Re: Graduation Day Reflections - 16 years ago
It is truly impossible to replace someone like Ari. I think he only missed 7 games total in 4 years here as an undergrad. One of the many things that make lynah what it is is the fact that we the fans actually make a difference. Ari certainly did that… and then some. Not only did he create such an amazing camaraderie among the lynah faithful, but I think it is safe to say his passion seeped dby Doug '08 - Hockey
Re: Team captains - 16 years ago
calgARI '07I seem to remember Dodge wearing a letter as a sophomore at Clarkson though I could be wrong. You’re right; Dodge was an assistant captain two years ago so yes he would have been a sophomore. Wearing the C for two years and the A for one, that’s something you don’t see everyday though.by Doug '08 - Hockey

Re: CHA Banquet - 17 years ago
I think we will see Topher with the C, Seminoff and Sawada as assistants. That being said I think Krantz would be a good choice as well.by Doug '08 - Hockey
Re: Brendon Nash Injured - 17 years ago
Yeah I saw him on crutches two weeks ago. Don't know what happened but it looked like he was moving well and didn't have any visible bandage or cast on.by Doug '08 - Hockey
Re: Davy Ringtone - 17 years ago
Actually, you can take any mp3 file (assuming you have a reasonably new phone that supports that audio format) from your computer as an audio file and use any 20 or so second segment as a ringtone. I have verizon and am familiar on how to do it on thier service (you just send the file to your phone as a pix message, standard rates apply), although I am sure other services have similar features.by Doug '08 - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: Riley Nash commits to Cornell - 17 years ago
I saw him on campus the other week so was cautiously optimistic he would commit here. What a great recruiting victory… can’t wait to see him on the ice.by Doug '08 - Hockey
Re: 2007-08 fan wishlist - 17 years ago
1) National Championship 2) ECAC Championship 3) ECAC Regular Season Championship 4) Ned Harkness Cup 5) Ivy League Championship If there is a championship to be won… I want it. Now that’s not being too greedy, is it? Let’s win some championships next year.by Doug '08 - Hockey
Re: NCAA Hockey - Friday, 3/23 - E & MW first rounds - 17 years ago
Wow. Not as big of a surprise as last years 4 over 1 upset, but I don't think anyone would have expected this. Embarassing for Clarkson and ECAC. Not to take anything away from UMass but they really had no business winning this game. That being said Clarkson did not play well and Leggio was the only thing that kept them in the game, especially during the first period. Fun game to watch, alby Doug '08 - Hockey
Re: NCAA Hockey - Friday, 3/23 - E & MW first rounds - 17 years ago
After two periods the story of this game has got to be the goaltenders. Neither team has impressed me that much so far, although the pace and intensity seems to be picking up. Should be a great third period, but I wouldn't be surprised if Clarkson gets on the board quickly and puts this game away. In my eyes they seem to be the better team so far. Interesting PK by Clarkson, very, very agby Doug '08 - Hockey
