Robb RichH Personally, I liked IvyGate's take on it: I've never been more embarrassed for Elmira native Brian Williams. "The hills of the Finger Lakes are alive with the sound of mockery today. Thanks." So are the Alps... Heh. Touche. (I am Cayuga.)by mnagowski - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: Latest Cornell football candidates - 14 years ago
They have scholarships. We do not. Our success this year is solely the function of Wittman being injured his senior year, Jeff Foote coming out of nowhere (thanks to Khaliq's injury), and Dale somehow flying under the radar.by mnagowski - Other Sports

ithacat mnagowski I think we need some paragraphs in there. That said, I think we are positioned pretty well for a late-season run. The team's performance in the last five minutes of last night's game was encouraging. So, does that put you in the glass is 8% full camp? Nope. Jerseygirl RichH Robb I chuckle when I think of a friend I worked with in Vermont (UWash undergrad / UMich grad) who was always amazed at how into Cornell we Cornellians were. Which had to be why CU was chosen for Andy Bernard. You have to wonder if writers of "The Office" had too many close encounters with CU alumni. I thought that one of the writers was an alum? Re: Hooray for MetaEzra - 14 years ago
Beeeej mnagowski I wonder if there are any types of creative financing Cornell could consider. For instance, what if Cornell cut your tuition by $10k a year if you promised 1% of your annual earnings as unrestricted giving for life? One potential problem with that, believe it or not, is that it could lower people's sights as far as their charitable giving to Cornell once they've reached the poiby mnagowski - John Spencer Is Dead

Kyle Rose Trotsky The main lesson is probably that $50k per year expenses for the Ancien Regime is too high in a world that churns out PhDs like toilet paper and in which a hundred or more competitors provide a comparable* product at a big discount. And this is exactly the point: the choice won't be between Harvard and Yale and Cornell. It will be between Harvard and Yale and (if one doesn't getby mnagowski - John Spencer Is Dead

I agree that this is the key issue. I'm tired of Noel whining about this publicly. He's supposed to be a senior executive, and whining is not how to get things in an organization. Just imagine all of the bickering inside the Ivy League office.by mnagowski - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: Cornell @ KU Jan 6, 2010 - 14 years ago
A "wide open three" is not an uncontested layup. You're only supposed to make about half of them. That's exactly my point. We missed a bunch of them. Between 17:00 and 7:00 of the second half, we missed 5 three point attempts in a row. I probably saw less of the end than you did but what I saw didn't have bad calls. Meh.by mnagowski - Other Sports

Al DeFlorio imafrshmn If the atheltic recruiting aid disparities continue in the Ivy League, so be it. Academics can't take a back seat to athletics, ever. Wrestling, lacrosse, hockey, and basketball seem to be surviving. The deeper issue is that the aid packages affect more than just the athletes -- they affect everybody. So if Princeton is making aid packages to middle-class students that Coby mnagowski - John Spencer Is Dead

polar ugarte That Cornell even had to concern itself with "blowing a lead" is a huge accomplishment. I'm not saying it's not a huge accomplishment; I was bouncing around the house that we were anywhere close at halftime, much less ahead. Kansas is a much better team than Cornell, and I'm very happy with their play today, but it would be nice to see us pull out one of these national-caby mnagowski - Other Sports

Re: CC 4, Cornell 2 (Florida Classic) postgame - 14 years ago
ebilmes For those of you wondering whether the team might look any better at UNH: Cornell left Florida at 4:30 a.m. Thursday, was scheduled to practice in Ithaca on Friday before leaving Saturday morning on a six-hour bus ride to Durham, N.H. Although this week's travel schedule has been hectic, after Sunday's game Cornell has another two-week break. That's when many of the Big Red's problemsby mnagowski - Hockey

Stinky Tom mnagowski Gary Melrose is complimenting this Cornell team more than I can stomach. I wonder which NHL team he would have used to compare the Cornell team that showed up in Florida. His Red Wings comment earlier amused me. I think part of the problem is that Cornell very rarely gets complimented on national television. 5-2 final. Nice game Red. We're still over-rated, however.by mnagowski - Hockey

scoop85 phillysportsfan I would say Donahue because lacrosse, hockey both had a history of success. Basketball had nothing. Donahue took that program from being a joke to a team without 2 starters that can beat a three solid A-10 teams. FYP. I also went with Donahue for the same reason. Alas, we beat UMass and St. Joe's with the aforementioned starters.by mnagowski - Other Sports

billhoward MOBalum Great win! You can't count on a guy like Jaques suddenly getting hot, but when it's there it's there and they made it work.
