Who is the best Cornell coach (or athletics leader) of the current decade? Let's say best among men's sports, for those of us not as familiar with the women's teams.
Consider:
Steve Donahue, basketball
Rob Koll, wrestling
Andy Noel, athletics director since 1999 (he hired all [edit cx: some] of them)
Mike Schafer, hockey
Jeff Tambroni, lacrosse
Other

Schafer was hired under Charles Moore, and Koll might even go back to Laing Kennedy.

Well, I'm the only one, but I picked Noll. He's not popular here, but except for football, we have one of the best periods of CU sports, in my opinion. Here's a IJ article on his pick of Lax coach.

I would say Donahue because lacrosse, hockey both had a history of success. Basketball had nothing. Donahue took that program from being a joke to a team without 2 starters that can beat a solid A-10 team.

FYP. I also went with Donahue for the same reason.

Alas, we beat UMass and St. Joe's with the aforementioned starters.

I know we beat 2 other A-10 teams but my point was that who would of thought a Cornell basketball team could beat a probably top 5 A-10 while missing 2 starters.

I still have to go with Schafer.
From 1/1/2000 - 12/31/2009:
210-97-36 .665
For the "decade" immediately prior to Schafer's hiring, 7/1/1986 - 6/30/1995:
119-121-21 .496
A .169 increase with such a huge sample size is quite an achievement.

Sorry -- missed your point, which is a good one.
