Al DeFlorio Trotsky Al DeFlorio Swampy You have to put these things in historical context. Vancouver was hardly a world-class city in the 1800s. It was incorporated only in 1886 and had a population of around 20,000 by 1900.Vancouver might still be a backwater if Charles Melville Hays, General Manager of the Grand Trunk Pacific railway, hadn't gone down with the Titanic along with his plans to maby mnagowski - Other Sports

Travis 02 That could be a useful publication distributed about Lynah before games. A few dedicated folks could pull if off: a committee to update the material on the flyer for a given game, and perhaps TA's with access to the copy machines, and a few reams of paper. Might be helpful! Judging by the number of iPhones and Blackberries I saw in the student section last week, you might just needby mnagowski - Hockey

Kyle Rose ugarteTen years ago basketball sucked. Even if you come to Cornell caring about basktball rather than hockey, a dead arena and a lot of losing sucks the fun out of it. Re: cornell gets killed by penn 79-64 - 14 years ago
I am still not happy about the Penn loss, mainly because it had to be against Penn, of all teams, their fans belief that Penn/Princeton need to return to dominance for all to be right with the world is so annoying. As opposed to our non-annoying quest to dominate all things hockey, lacrosse, and wrestling? I find a lot of things annoying about Princeton, but high standards for their basketbaby mnagowski - Other Sports

sockralex imafrshmn mnagowski 5) changing undergraduate demographics I'm interested in this effect, if it is indeed real. Are you asserting that there are less white students (in absolute numbers) now than there was some years ago and those minority factions are not as interested in school sports ? Re: Letter from MetaEzra - 14 years ago
KeithK ebilmes Yeah, there's a lot which can be said about this. I don't think Sec. A tickets even sold out this year, and a lot of the people who have seats there tend to move into B. Hardly any students show up to watch a substantial part of warmups. Attendance always dips a little during pledging/mixer season, and the relative mediocrity of this year's team compared to those of 4-7 years ago aby mnagowski - Hockey
Re: Yale 2 at Cornell 1 (OT) postgame - 14 years ago
Scersk '97 ithacat I think vision and instincts are only surpassed by Riley and Jillson on the team. If he puts the work in during the offseason he could be a pretty dangerous and crafty player. To end with a ridiculous metaphor, Yale is a team full of sharks, and we're a team full of bears. (Hah!) They treat us like a whale, circling and circling and taking us down with a number of tiny bitesby mnagowski - Hockey
Re: Yale 2 at Cornell 1 (OT) postgame - 14 years ago
Did anybody feel that a turning point for the game was in the second period when there was the questionable non-call on Yale interference? After that it felt like the levees broke and we couldn't sustain any offensive-zone pressure for the rest of the period.by mnagowski - Hockey
Re: Cornell Swimming - 14 years ago
Princeton has been fortunate to keep its facilities close to the main campus. It helps that you're America's second wealthiest university (endowment per student, not total billions). You don't think the proximity of facilities has anything to do with two gorges and a steep incline? And to the best of my knowledge, Princeton does have the most endowment per student. Around ten times richer tby mnagowski - Other Sports
Re: Taking Stock - 14 years ago
scoop85 Tomorrow night will tell a lot about this team. The Colgate fans on USCHO are raving about Yale's skill and speed, and we know what a challenge that presents to us. It's a testament to Schafer and the coaching staff that we've managed to stay at the top of the standings with a number of talented teams nipping at our heels. We're going to need Scrivens to have his "A" gameby mnagowski - Hockey
Re: Cornell Swimming - 14 years ago
Wasn't it two or three years ago that they swept the Ivy dual meet season? I asked him at the time about whether or not a new pool will ever be in the plans. Given the budget, I doubt it: v I would love to know how the coach does it. Not only does Cornell not have a swimming tradition, but as you mentioned, the facilities could use a little work.by mnagowski - Other Sports

Re: CU & ECAC Tourney on TV - 14 years ago
Same here. But they felt bad so they gave me 3 months of HBO+Cinemax free. Not a completely wasted effort, I guess. Ditto. Just remember to cancel in three months. I also tried to encourage them to carry the Canadian broadcast channels. With the Olympics coming up I am going to really miss the CBC coverage. Re: Odds that Donahue stays? - 14 years ago
Another fair question to ask is how much more the University would be willing to pay to keep Donahue in Ithaca. Wild speculation on my part, but probably no more than $200,000 a year -- $100,000 in salary and another $100,000 for additional travel, recruiting expenses, etc. The budget for basketball is currently $1.2 MM a year, and I doubt it makes anywhere close to that amount of money. Re: Odds that Donahue stays? - 14 years ago
one thing that might motivate a decision to stay in Ithaca is quality of life. He does have four young children, I believe. Not many leagues where you can have dinner with your kids five nights a week during the season.by mnagowski - Other Sports

You probably heard that Cornell recognized the fan interest and so is keeping the ballroom projectors active in order the webcast tonight's game - the Harvard basketball game. phillysportsfan Yeah what a joke of a pick for convocation speaker. I am glad I am not graduating this year. Would it be that painful for you to actually hear what she has to say before coming to a conclusion?
