Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Cornell 2 Yale 2 - 18 years ago
Yale started to outhit us a bit toward the end, but a lot of the hits should have been called for some reason or another. With about a minute left in the third period, Pegs got nailed by a crosscheck from behind, while he was on his knees. Right in front of Hansen. No call. I'm not exactly sober, so I'll not list what I feel should be done to Hansen. But I can say that both nights, I felby Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Brown at Cornell postgame thread - 18 years ago
Bitz looked very good today. This is a lot coming from me, as I've thought he's been just about awful this year. Has a lot of assists, but his puckhandling has been quite bad. Much better today, he was clearing in front of the net, and moving the puck well.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Brown at Cornell postgame thread - 18 years ago
The officiating was by far the worst I've seen all year. I can't even begin to describe how horrible. Noncalls both ways, stupid calls... It got to the point where I seriously thought someone was going to get hurt.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: 2005-2006 PWR - 18 years ago
Something interesting... In USCHO's "bracketology", only one hockey east team gets in. Sure, it's way too early to tell much, and it isn't exactly a great source, but it's nice to see hockey east's poor interconference record actually reflected for once.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Impressions from SLU(t)/Clarkson weekend at Lynah - 18 years ago
Me and a few friends in G were yelling at McNulty to break his stick. Then... his stick broke, and he had to get a new one. Hilarious. Even better, in the third period, he lost his stick and had to use another player's regular stick, and almost immediately gave up a goal.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Refereeing - 18 years ago
This was a good game for a more visible ref, as there was a lot of contact after the whistle, away from the play, etc. That being said, some of the calls were quite questionable. There was an interference on us at the beginning of one of our power plays toward the beginning of the 3rd that I really was wondering about. Then again, half of interference calls confuse me. And all the opposingby Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Refereeing - 18 years ago
McDonald had this really annoying habit. Any time opposing players would start going at it, he'd call them both. Early on, one of the Abbotts (would guess Cam, but not sure) started getting pushed a bit after the whistle (and he was pushign back as well). I thought no call would be fine, or a penalty on the Clarkson player. Offsetting calls. Same thing with the 4 roughing calls later (plus tby Dafatone - Hockey
Re: 6th defenseman - 18 years ago
Had Pokulok taken him down, it would've been a penalty. There were just over 4 minutes left, we were down one goal. This would (barring a shorthanded goal) effectively cut in half the amount of time we had left to tie the game up. I thought letting the man go was a better move, and hoping McKee could come up with a miracle save.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: 6th defenseman - 18 years ago
Pokulok did look pretty good against Princeton up until the 2nd goal. I haven't been particularly impressed with Salmela. He's not big, he doesn't strike me as especially fast, and he seems to be out of position more often than I'd like. On the other hand, Glover at least has some size going for him. As to Krantz, he's improved from where he was at the beginning of the year, but I'm not sureby Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Cornell at Princeton postgame thread 1/14/06 - 18 years ago
A few points about the game. First, I had a great view of one end of the rink (where Princeton defended in the 3rd). I'm pretty damn sure, about 6 minutes in the 3rd period or so, I saw the puck in the net, against the left post. It quickly got kicked out by someone. I wouldn't bet on it, but I'm pretty confident it was in there. Pokulok was playing well, up until that awful turnover forby Dafatone - Hockey

Princeton takes on Denver today. We can always hope, can't we?by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Tournament Games over the Holidays - 18 years ago
Harvard beat NoDak! Except the Union loss to Minnesota might suck for us, common opponentwise.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: 12/28 UMD-Cornell 1-1 (FINAL) (3-2 SO WIN) - 18 years ago
I really would have liked Scott in on the shootout, instead of O'byrne or carefoot. I like all three a lot, but I think Scott's the best on shootouts. Then again, Carefoot scored, so who knows.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: 12/28 UMD-Cornell 1-1 (Middle of 2nd) - 18 years ago
Okay, this ref, I guess. Shows how much I know about hockey.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: 12/28 UMD-Cornell 1-1 (Middle of 2nd) - 18 years ago
These refs are awful. Both sides seem to be hacking at each other, but they haven't called anything this period. After a ton of penalties in the first.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: 12/28 UMD-Cornell - 18 years ago
Wait, didn't we get an unsportsmanlike conduct for a shot after the whistle? They should, too. Really, neither should have been penalties, but... Anyway, damn. Was that a fair major?by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: 12/28 UMD-Cornell - 18 years ago
Even these announcers (who aren't very good) called shennanigans on that one. Damn ref.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: 12/28 UMD-Cornell - 18 years ago
Even the announcers think that call was bad. Since when does Moulson ever get penalties?by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: 12/28 UMD-Cornell - 18 years ago
4x4, Cam Abbott (think it was Cam) off for shooting after the whistle (he didn't hear it), someone on UMD off for hitting him after the shot. Dumb penalties, really.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: 12/28 UMD-Cornell - 18 years ago
I am worried about having CCHA referees. "If they can win this game, which I believe they will and should." Quote from the announcer. At least, I think it was the announcer, doubt it was the coach.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: 12/28 UMD-Cornell - 18 years ago
These announcers are... wow. Let's just say they have talked repeatedly about how overrated Cornell is, and has been for the past ten years.by Dafatone - Hockey

The free net audio link to KDAL looks like it is working. Pregame on now, game in 20 minutes.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: 12/10 Results - 18 years ago
We've been doing very well interconference so far. And while 4-8-1 is pretty bad, Cornell, Harvard, and Colgate all weren't playing.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: 1st Half - 18 years ago
We beat Harvard, didn't we? So maybe we're not looking great at this point, but that doesn't mean we can't improve. A bad start doesn't mean it's time to give up.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Cornell - Quinnipiac postgame - 18 years ago
I don't think we looked that bad at any period this game. Quinnipiac was much faster than us. Much faster. But by the third period, we wore them down with our physical play, they got tired, and we had the upper hand. Which is what should happen. We looked very slow, but I'm starting to think we're simply not a very fast team. Pokuluk looked especially sluggish. I didn't think Salmelaby Dafatone - Hockey
Re: sun article on hockey fans - 18 years ago
He did start to make one decent point, then lose himself in self-righteousness. Fans who don't actually know any hockey at all can be really annoying. It's fine if you're not a huge sports person, and good to see enthusiasm anyway. Just frustrating at the person who starts to wave every time there's a penalty, because they can't tell it's on us, for example.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: CU vs. Princeton Post-game - 18 years ago
The goal McKee let up was just... yeah. It was that bad. But he made three great saves, to my count, in the third period, and a good stop on a breakaway in the second. Other than the goal, McKee looked really good. There was one shot in the first period where he got beat to his left, but the shot went wide. But really, he looked solid. I thought we looked great, but that could be Princby Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Cornell 5 Niagara 3 (Saturday; final) - 18 years ago
I actually thought Kindret looked very good in the exhibition game. I might've been the only one, though. He showed a lot of speed, and good ability to break away from defenders. I didn't see either of this weekend's games, but it's good to see him playing well.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Union 2 @ Cornell 1 (postgame thread 11/18/05) - 18 years ago
A friend of mine tends to be very sympathetic, towards pretty much anyone. Which is a nice quality, but it comes up oddly in hockey games. When someone on RPI (#14, perhaps?) went down after a hard hit by Seminoff (penalty, I think at the end of the 2nd period) I yelled at him to stop faking it and get up. He turned out okay, no injury, just shaken up maybe. My friend was very upset I'd getby Dafatone - Hockey
Re: RPI 1 @ Cornell 1 11/19 Postgame - 18 years ago
D/E/F/G had great cheering intensity. Then, they all left right as the overtime buzzer went off. Was quite disappointing.by Dafatone - Hockey
