Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Wayne State Postgame (Sunday) - 17 years ago
"Hooper! Hooper! I'm still here, you can't get rid of me!" or something like that (no cursing, or even any bad non-swear words like "sucks" almost got a friend tossed in D. This needs to change, or in the somewhat near future, Lynah won't be exciting at all and we'll have trouble selling out our games.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Wayne State Postgame (Sunday) - 17 years ago
Personally, I wasn't very impressed with Kindret. He has good speed, and hustles, but seems to get beaten fighting for the puck every time he gets tied up with someone against the boards.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Wayne State Postgame (Sunday) - 17 years ago
Mugford's been very good, but he does take far too many penalties. And I feel both he and Sawada have been a bit weak lately. I do like Barlow, so I wasn't all that happy to see him sitting. Scali needs to stay in the lineup. Gallagher's been alright, and very good on faceoffs. I'd personally not dress Milo, but he hasn't been bad.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Wayne State Postgame (Sunday) - 17 years ago
One of my friends from A visited me in D for the 2nd period. He yelled Hooper's name a bunch, and then almost got tossed by the usher. Ugh.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Wayne State Saturday Postgame - 17 years ago
We're starting to look very inconsistent from game to game. We're young. Schafer said that we no longer can use that as an excuse. Well, excuse or no excuse, it's still a valid reason. We need to work on the powerplay and the kill. That's pretty much it. And Davenport has a tendency to give up goals early, though he's been very solid in games I've seen (home games that aren't Wayne State)by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: "Dumping the Old" - 17 years ago
Is there any possibility of a Sawada - Scali - Mugford line? I might've mixed up Sawada and Mugford there, but still the same idea. Scali looked fantastic checking against York, and I think that would be a brutal line to throw against opposing offensive lines.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Quinnipac and fans are for real - 17 years ago
I didn't see this game. But I thought the officiating has been pretty bad. Then again, I think the officiating is bad in every sport I watch. So don't listen to me.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Dartmouth @ Cornell -Post Game Comments 11/11/06 - 17 years ago
Nash has been out of position occasionally, and caught flat-footed as guys go by him. But he's made some very good plays when he gets positioned right, and handles the puck very, very well for a large defenseman. A comparison to Pokulok isn't all that off, though I'm not sure he's at that level yet.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Harvard 2 @ Cornell 3 postgame thread (11/10/06) - 17 years ago
I thought Scali looked fantastic in the York game. Would love to see him in the lineup once he's healthyby Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Harvard 2 @ Cornell 3 postgame thread (11/10/06) - 17 years ago
As pointed out, the disparity in faceoffs is pretty much solely because of Kevin Du. In three games I've seen, I think I've only seen him lose one faceoff. Oh, and the officiating was beyond awful. I'm the sort that complains about refs a lot, but still. There was one play toward the end of the 1st period where a guy pretty much jumped on Sawada's back and dragged him down in front of the nby Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Harvard 2 @ Cornell 3 postgame thread (11/10/06) - 17 years ago
Strange, I feel like I disagree with all the comments. I thought Davenport was great in goal, both goals he had no chance on. Greening and Carefoot both played a lot and played well. Our new fast-paced offense just wasn't getting the job done, so we went to a bit of a dump and chase and that worked better toward the end. Davenport does have some trouble handling the puck, but at least heby Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Cornell 5 @ Yale 2 (2nd period) - 17 years ago
This is how other teams should get when they play us. Except losing players to fights is bad.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Cornell 4 @ Yale 1 (2nd period) - 17 years ago
You know, we seemed to look pretty weak on defense after our goals last year. I hope that's not continuing.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Matt Connors - 17 years ago
I thought Davenport was our best option. Anything in that regard change?by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Hocky Tickets 2006/7 - 17 years ago
Couldn't they just take everyone interested in getting tickets, and make them wait overnight, and then have a lottery? This would result in a lot more people staying over, and therefore require a bigger room, maybe barton's main room. But instead of staying overnight once you know you're guaranteed a ticket, you have to stay overnight in order to have a chance. A lot of lame "fans"by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Hocky Tickets 2006/7 - 17 years ago
Does going to the football game even matter? Seems like you can just check afterwards whether you "won" the lottery or not. Lame system.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: The Schafer system - 17 years ago
Seminoff, from what I remember, had some offensive skill. He just had a tendency to shoot far too often for a pointman on the PP. Toward the end of the year, he got somewhat better. One of the two OT goals against Clarkson in the ECAC's came when Seminoff faked a shot and passed near the net. At least, that's what I remember.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Noah Welch is a big fat idiot - 18 years ago
Nice to see his first goal come after his first own goal.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Hobey Hat Trick - 18 years ago
If Elliott wins, it is also because the WCHA is so much more offensively orientated than the ECAC. Without getting into any debate about the quality of the two conferences, there's no question that WCHA is more offensive. So a 1.70 GAA from a WCHA goalie could be considered equal or better than the numbers McKee put up last year. I don't think they quite cover the difference, but given that Wiby Dafatone - Hockey

My picks to go are Feola, Hansen, maybe Dell, and... well, Feola again.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Wisconsin postgame thread (post-season thread?) NCAA quarterfinals 2006 - 18 years ago
My biggest concern next year is losing the defense that some of our senior forwards, especially Chris Abbott and Pegs, provide. It'll be important to see if players like Mugford and Sawada can step up and fill this void, and how much defense we have in the forwards of the incoming class. I'm also worried about defensemen, but if all we lose is Gleed, we should be alright, though by the end ofby Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Don't worry, Harvard still... - 18 years ago
I'd take going farther into the NCAA's over the ECAC tourney. That could be just me, though. And I'd definitely rather lose in a great game like we did, than get blown out 6-1by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Wisconsin postgame thread (post-season thread?) NCAA semifinal 2006 - 18 years ago
I'm really upset about that matching minors call, Mugford wasn't really fighting back from what I saw. The refs wanted to make a point without hurting either team. We were slowly gaining momentum throughout the last two OT's, and I really felt like we were making progress. Had the game gone much longer, I liked our chances. Both teams played incredibly. McKee and Elliot were both amazing.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Cornell 0 Wisconsin 0 (6th period) - 18 years ago
Anyone else extremely pissed at the matching minors call? From what I saw, a guy was pushing Mugford after the whistle, and Mugford wasn't retaliating. I know the refs wanted to get the game under control without screwing over either side, but that wasn't the way to do it. We played one hell of a game, though. So did they.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Harvard ECAC title post-game thread - 18 years ago
Our current power play strategy works when you have the pieces. Last year, Cook developed an accurate slapshot, and Hynes was very effective in moving the puck around. We don't have anyone to replace Cook's shot (O'Byrne and Bitz can't put the puck on net often enough.) And Bitz, while improving greatly, doesn't move the puck like Hynes. Maybe we need to shake up the lines about, though it'sby Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Harvard ECAC title post-game thread - 18 years ago
Another big factor were the NHL blue lines they have in Pepsi Arena. Those favor the offensive game, which isn't us. Missing Chris Abbott hurt more than I could imagine. He might actually be our most important player (him or Pegs), given everything he contributes in. In fact, I'd put him above Pegs, given that he's more physical. Feola was awful, the boards took horrible bounces... but Harby Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Cornell 2, Harvard 6 - 18 years ago
One other thing. McCutcheon was fantastic tonight. Had a few great breakaways that led to Harvard taking penalties. Bitz also looked solid. Besides, this wasn't an official Cornell game. Seminoff stayed out of the box.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: what the f happened to the pk? - 18 years ago
Two things: We didn't have Chris Abbott. At least in my opinion, he and Pegs are our PK. Also, Pepsi Arena had NHL blue lines, allowing for a bigger offensive zone, and greatly favoring the PP over the PK. Of course, this didn't help us much, but our second PP line was horrible without Chris and our first line couldn't convert on opportunities. We needed to work the puck underneath the Hby Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Cornell 2, Harvard 6 - 18 years ago
Everything went wrong for us today. Everything. 1) The rink was an NHL lined rink, with the new blue lines. Larger offensive zones mean more offense, and this really hurt us, espcially because... 2) Feola was awful. Like, unbelievably awful. This had to be the worst officiating I've ever seen. Given I've only been following Cornell for a couple years, but still. He made all sorts ofby Dafatone - Hockey
