Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Jason Kuczmanski - 21 years ago
Yes, he'll always be remembered for that lone goal, with a non-counting assist to Svoboda for riding the Harvard guy off the puck causing it to slide right onto Jason's stick. I hope he's still in school. If so, the good news is he keeps any financial aid he may have been getting.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey

Re: options to this Sunday's game - 21 years ago
It's interesting to contrast the ham-handed way this CornellPass "idiocy" (to steal big red apple's very apt term) was handled with the way the the Internet broadcasts were initiated five or so years ago (and the way Age handled the funding of HockeyCam last year, by the way). IIRC, Tom Hamill tested the waters here for interest, then approached the athletics department suggestingby Al DeFlorio - Hockey

Age, are you expecting to have HockeyCam running for the regular season home games? Is the CornellPass nonsense going to restrict HockeyCam in any way?by Al DeFlorio - Hockey

Or could that have been Dave Quarrie?by Al DeFlorio - Hockey

My wife's just back today from 10 days in Richmond. They were skittish there after that last shooting in a Richmond suburb.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey

Arthur Mintz '71 wrote: For many years (Al, Jim and Ken will remember this), the only number worn by goalies at Cornell was #1. Both the starter and the backup wore it. Right. And sometimes two backups. In those days you couldn't "tell the players" even with a scorecard. People kept confusing Ken Dryden with George Swan.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey

Anyone figured out yet why Vesce and Iggulden were coaching instead of playing?by Al DeFlorio - Hockey

Mark wrote: Well, BU didn't want you ECAC folks to have a completely lost Friday night, so it decided to shoot the majority of pucks into the legs, arms and body of the UVM goalie. That BU was able to hit Conschafter's legs, arms, and body--moving as quickly as they were all night long--with such remarkable accuracy is a real tribute to their shooting skills. Re: #7 in Hockey According to SI - 21 years ago
With a new coach and without Ryan Miller, I can see rationale for leaving MSU out of the top 10, but the omission of Minnesota is very strange. It is a rather bizarre ranking of the top 10, however.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: It was only a matter of time... - 21 years ago
True, but, nonetheless, bra's point remains valid. Instead of leveraging the Internet to make it as easy as possible for alums to connect with the athletics program, the knuckleheads put up barriers.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: JMP and the Lock Monsters - 21 years ago
7-3 win for the Monsters. JMP gave up two goals in the first ten minutes and then nothing until a meaningless power play goal (by Eric Healey) in the last minute. Picked up the first star.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
JMP and the Lock Monsters - 21 years ago
JMP is in goal tonight for the Lock Monsters against the Manchester Monarchs. Anyone with DirecTV in the Boston area can watch the game on channel 9. I think it's one of the "local" channels so it's not "telecast" nationally.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey

Re: How the blip??? (Football) - 21 years ago
I guess we did pull it out in OT, but not by the 31-24 score posted on the wonderful Gametracker (surprised we don't have to pay for that, too). Whoever was manning that apparently didn't realize that the other guy gets a chance to tie (or win) if the team with the ball first in the OT scores. Great win over a very explosive team. Amazing we held them scoreless until the last play of the thiby Al DeFlorio - Hockey

So what else is new. Saturday's USA Today scoreboard had Yale beating "Cornell College, Iowa," 50-23, in football. For what it's worth, Becky and Jayson have Cornell in Buffalo, too.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey

Re: Top college sports programs according to SI - 21 years ago
Wonder where we'd rank without the "biggest natural indoor rock-climbing wall." We make up in volume what we lack in Ivy success, I guess. Nice to see you back, Mark.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey

Just learned that Harvard has cut the size of the Cornell Club of Boston block from 600 to 300, as a result of increased season ticket sales. The fair-weather yachties are back, I guess. Better plan ahead accordingly.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
