Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: 2020 Takeaways - 2 years ago
As a member of the class of '64 I was privileged to enjoy the first and most spectacularly successful decade of Cornell hockey. Those early teams had nowhere to go but up, and did they ever! The past few seasons of Cornell hockey have placed the team in a similar position. The new decade should be a beauty!by osorojo - Hockey

"Tigers?" Nah. "Jungle night" is the Princeton version of slumming it.They stand around drinking lite beer and exchanging dreadful oaths.by osorojo - Hockey

Stanford is the "Cornell of the west". Leland modeled his university after Ezra's. You can look it up.by osorojo - Hockey

I attended my first Cornell Men's Varsity hockey game over 60 years ago - still follow and still hope . . . I can't remember a single C.U.M.V.H team which evinced such wildly different efforts and results as this year's team. Have you?by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Cornell at Union, 2/12/22 - 2 years ago
Cornell's hockey players are not lacking talent. That leaves game strategy and motivation to explain their peculiar win/loss history.by osorojo - Hockey

When the cat's away the mice will play - but not well.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: @ RPI Fri 2/11/22 - 2 years ago
No big mystery to a team which consistently plays poorly - they suck! This Cornell hockey team selectively plays poorly - against weaker teams. Something besides the bench is causing the wild fluctuations in this team's skating, passing, shooting, and hitting.by osorojo - Hockey

"Power Rankings" is how fanatical statisticians enjoy following college hockey. It takes a whole lot of intricate computations to explain the bizarre swings in the performance of the Cornell Men's Hockey Team. This year has been very, very good for statisticians, not so hot for coaches.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: 2022-01-21 Princeton - 2 years ago
Consider the possibility that Princeton is simply a better hockey team. It appears it was last night, at least.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Second ND Game Thread - 2 years ago
After the first 10 minutes or so of the first period I can predict wide open or close-checking for the rest of the game quite well. Before the game . . . not so good. I am in awe of those who can predict the character of a game BEFORE the puck is dropped!by osorojo - Hockey

Darwin's theorem marches on. Here's our chance to improve the quality and sustainability of Cornell hockey fans. Let's not ruin this opportunity.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Clarkson Game Thread - 2 years ago
USCHO Hockey Guru wrote this headline: "Clarkson stages unreal rally to top Cornell . . ." "top"? New math? Clarkson graduate?by osorojo - Hockey

Do you suppose this meltdown chiefly the product of a mental collapse or a physical collapse?by osorojo - Hockey

Are you thinking of Polled Herefords? They hang around Bebee Lake.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Recruits beyond 2020 - 2 years ago
Does C.U.encourage and fund athletic programs to attract academic talent? I am ignorant of the correlation between the the two. Maybe a crossover between academic and athletic donors is the key to this conundrum.by osorojo - Hockey

Wayne Gretzky is not a very good bridge player either. So?by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Cornell 2021-22 season prediction - 2 years ago
The only reasonably predictable variable is coaching.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Recruits beyond 2020 - 2 years ago
Please don't allude to the attendance/revenue a top-notch hockey recruit might generate for Cornell. That might result in an investigation into how Ivy League schools report their profits from their athletic programs.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: New College Hockey Program? - 2 years ago
Pick a rink 10+ years old and see if it spawned any Pewee-to-NHL talent. Lynah/Cass Park did.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: New College Hockey Program? - 2 years ago
If you build a rink coaching and talent will follow.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Schafer's salary - 2 years ago
O.K. - Back to the subject. When you compare cost of/quality of living in Ithaca to the cost/quality of living in a mega-metropolitan city (or commuting to/from) it many reasonable people - including hockey coaches - would choose a hip/hick town such as Ithaca for its quality of life.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Schafer's salary - 2 years ago
95+% of new hockey rinks are being built in suburbs and "small" towns, not old-time mega cities.by osorojo - Hockey
