Once Cornell hockey fans assumed an Ivy League Championship for Cornell Men's hockey, expected Cornell to win the regionals, and had legitimate hopes for a national championship. We old-timers remember this well. My, how times have changed.by osorojo - Hockey

Polite hockey fans recoil at the thought of "enforcers" - but they take a lot of pressure off the referees and they might even reduce the number of serious injuries. A well-timed trip or push is more likely to result in permanent physical damage than a punch to the body or the face mask.by osorojo - Hockey

At Colgate in 1967 both teams exited for the dressing rooms between periods through a gap in the wooden bleachers. At the end of the second period Cornell was clobbering Colgate (final score: 8-0). I was sitting on the end of the bleachers above the dressing room entrance gap, a few feet above the heads of the exiting players. Harkness and the Colgate coach were walking fairly close together a feby osorojo - Hockey

Only one way to end all this squabbling about best playoff selection procedure. Cornell wins the National Championship. The playoff selection which produces that result will be the undisputed best system.by osorojo - Hockey

In '63 or '64 I attended a Cornell-Colgate game in Hamilton. It was a rout. At the end of the second period Cornell was up by several goals and dominating play. There were gaps in the bleachers leading to the dressing rooms and I was sitting on the end seat of one row above the gap. The coaches were following the teams to the locker rooms and Ned was walking next to the Colgate coach who I overheby osorojo - Hockey
Re: Cornell at Union, 2/24/18 - 6 years ago
Cornell once had a goalie who won a Stanley Cup before he won a regular season game, won the Conn Smythe Trophy the year before he won the Calder Memorial Cup, was a goaltender in the NHL for 8 years and won 6 Stanley Cups. He has an excellent claim to being the best ice hockey goalie. Ever. Cornell did not win a national championship during his years playing for Cornell. Let's get real and ditcby osorojo - Hockey

USCHO article title: "Cornell avoids upset" - NOT "Cornell wins D-1 hockey's best 12th in-a-row" or "Top-ranked Cornell adds to win streak" No big deal except there seems to have been a string of dog-in-the-manger articles/titles from USCHO's ECAC correspondent.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Polls 2017-18 - 6 years ago
It seems this Cornell hockey team succeeds because of a team and teamwork rather than being borne upon the backs of a few superstars. This conflicts with current team sports wisdom, or at least current sports reporting, where superstars are the cause success and failure. This attitude is reflected in (or a partner to) the current opinion that the efforts of a few political superstars is responsibby osorojo - Hockey

Ithaca produced Dustin Brown. No reason why Portage can't produce at least a fine college hockey player, even if Portage is smaller than Ithaca. How many D-1 hockey players came out of New York City or Hong Kong last year?by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Miami 12/1-2 - 6 years ago
What changed besides the numbers to create this about-face? A recovery from bus-butt, as has been suggested? Personnel change? Strategy change? I prefer to believe I live in a causal universe, but I can't discern the causes - at least not from reading box scoresby osorojo - Hockey
Re: Miami 12/1-2 - 6 years ago
A winning hockey team with overwhelming individual talent can use the same game plan every game. A hockey team with good talent wins or loses depending upon changing its game plan just about every game, and usually during a game. Looking at the Box Score of this game, which is the best I can do, makes me wonder what happened in this game besides the score?by osorojo - Hockey
