Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Alumni in the pros 23-24 - 9 days ago
Anybody know about what percentage of current NHL hockey players are college graduates? I would like to see how this number compares to the percentage of college graduates playing in other major professional sports.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ Clarkson, 2/23 - 2 months ago
Lou didn't get much recognition, but he ran a tight ship at Lynah. His employee, Jimmie, got more recognition at the end of the first and second periods. Fond memories of the old days of C.U. Men's D 1 Varsity Ice Hockey and its accomplishments - and hope you and I can get to see the Big Red once again lead U.S. College Hockey!by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ Clarkson, 2/23 - 2 months ago
I was hoping for a cogent explanation (or excuse) for current Cornell Men's hockey pitiful record against opponents ranked 20th best - or worse! I only mentioned past Cornell Ice Hockey glory because I still cherish memories of the Lou Mobbs and Paul Patton and Ned Harkness days.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ Clarkson, 2/23 - 2 months ago
It seems that Cornell plays poorly in critical games against teams with mediocre (or worse) records - but plays well against higher-ranked teams. The only reason I can think of to create such an anomaly would be poor preparation and/or poor focus. I miss the old "go-for-the-throat" days of Harkness hockey. For example: In the late 60's I was sitting in bleachers just a few feet directlyby osorojo - Hockey

I was fortunate enough to experience Cornell hockey at Lynah Rink form its first, Paul Patton days, and I cherish memories of the Ned Harkness days: "You show up? You lose!"by osorojo - Hockey
Home Ice - 3 months ago
What are the parameters of acceptable ice-surface temperature during a college ice-hockey game? Are these measurements made at required intervals or at the discretion of the home rink?by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Mass Media's take on Cornell Hockey - 7 months ago
Were it not for Cornell's early Men's varsity hockey prowess usnews.com probably would have also called the current men's hockey program "successful" rather than "strong".by osorojo - Hockey
Re: HARVARD SUCKS - 8 months ago
Harvard certainly "Sucked Up" an excellent bunch of freshman hockey talent for their Men's Varsity Hockey Team this year!by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Opponents and Others, 2022-23 - 1 year ago
"Why?" - Because "Rand" is always the shortened form of "Randy"- but you can't blame them for trying.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Polls - 1 year ago
Numerous D-1 college athletic programs have ignored academic standards while enrolling athletes, yet their school's academic programs have survived. College athletes generate piles of cash to fund higher education, and seldom is there any mention of academic failure of students recruited for their physical rather than mental ability.by osorojo - Hockey

F.R. - I trust you did not study logic or rhetoric - and I DO hope you did not attend C.U.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Bracketology 2023 - 1 year ago
Two months ago on this site the practice of using records of past performance to predict winners of future games was reviled. Probability Puritans must be deeply disappointed by the total dominance of past performance used to select and seed teams in the finals.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: St. Lawrence at Cornell 2023-02-18 - 1 year ago
St. Lawrence received very bad reviews at the beginning of the season. Although I am a loyal Cornell fan I can't help but admire how much the Skatin' Saints have improved this season.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Clarkson vs. Cornell 2/17/23 - 1 year ago
Apparently Clarkson has improved a great deal since the beginning of the year.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Colgate @ Cornell - 1 year ago
Steps should be taken to persuade demented spectators they are not participants in the game, and they should not attempt to directly influence its outcome.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: IT'S A TRAP! Cornell vs Princeton - 1 year ago
Is this site about Cornell Hockey or about Cornell hockey fans? A website can not serve two masters.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Alumni in the pros 2022-2023 - 1 year ago
"Fanatics," by definition, are monomaniacs. Hockey fanatics dilute the audience pool for political fanatics. A fanatic cannot serve two masters.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Polls - 1 year ago
Declarative statements about future events can only imagine the likelihood of such events. Would-be sports gurus both professional and on-line, in print or in taverns, are chronic losers. Neither your moving finger nor your wit will make you a seer or a winner - only a guesser. Soup kitchens are packed with living proof.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: TBRW Awards - 1 year ago
Lots of entymology majors on this site?! They constantly search for and revile "bots". Better they should go to the infirmary and get the salve.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: TBRW Awards - 1 year ago
What do you suppose is the most important factor in successfully recruiting talented college hockey players?by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Polls - 1 year ago
Thanks, for your your response to my question, Marty. Your explanation leaves little doubt about the methodology or accuracy of college hockey rankings.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Polls - 1 year ago
Swampy: I'll let you borrow MY Aunt Beulah for a couple of predictions, you lucky dog. Don't worry about kickback from cranky posters. They aren't any better at predicting hockey game winners than my Aunt Beulah.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Polls - 1 year ago
If current rating systems are no better at predicting outcomes of upcoming hockey games than my Aunt Beulah is why not dig a hole, cover it with leaves and grass, and TRAP someone to predict outcomes of upcoming college hockey games?by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Polls - 1 year ago
Which rating system has most accurately predicted D-1 college hockey game winners so far this season?by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Polls - 1 year ago
What criteria are used to construct college hockey rankings, and which ranking system has most successfully predicted the winners of contests between ranked teams?by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Recruits 2023 and beyond - 1 year ago
I believe Cornell's most successful hockey team was comprised of relatively "small" skaters. The biggest member of that team was probably the goalie.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Recruits 2023 and beyond - 1 year ago
Vows of "commitment" whether in sports or government or business or matrimony have suffered from greatly reduced expectations - and results.by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Harvard @ Cornell, 12/2/2022 - 1 year ago
I have found the quality of the writing implement or machine used to communicate has little to do with the quality of the writing itself . . .by osorojo - Hockey
Re: Harvard @ Cornell, 12/2/2022 - 1 year ago
During overtime keep everything the same except replace the 4 X 6 goals with 8 X 10 goals and sudden death victory. Problem solved, and attendance swells.by osorojo - Hockey
