Re: Lax vs. Hobart - 12 years ago
They should just play at 4:30 after the 2pm SU v. Army game tomorrow at the Dome ... It'd be a great triple-header SU women play UVA at noon. Sounds like a solid day of early season lax if you ask me ...by ben03 - Other Sports
Re: Lax All-Americans - 12 years ago
Look .. I wanted Pannell to win as much as the rest of us, trust me. But Stanwick almost single-handedly put UVA on his back and brought them back against Bucknell (3G/5A), destroyed us head-to-head (3G/4A), had a solid game vs. Denver (3G/2A) and one could say he laid a pretty big egg with (0G/1A) in the Final. On balance it was a two horse race coming into the NCAA and it would be tough toby ben03 - Other Sports
Re: Lax All-Americans - 12 years ago
the right player won the Tewaaraton ... it's awarded for the entirety of the season. Stanwick ended our season and won a NC ... pretty simple - he wins.by ben03 - Other Sports
Re: Tewaaraton Finalists - 12 years ago
gored How on earth did Stanwick win it? Can't believe it. he had to bust the UVA zone and didn't ... no one did.by ben03 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse in 2011 - D1 coach of the year - 12 years ago
billhoward ... Wojcik really pulled up Harvard ... I think John Tillman should probably get some if not the majority of the credit for putting together a Harvard squad that can compete with most of DI.by ben03 - Other Sports
Re: NCAA lacrosse tournament seedings, brackets, etc. - 12 years ago
Al DeFlorio A selection Sunday update on Inside Lacrosse reports that the "numbers" (i.e., RPI, SOS) may be counted more heavily this year than "significant wins." If so, Cornell will be screwed again, as Duke and Virginia are #1 and #2 in SOS and #7 and #5 in RPI. After a year or two of almost sanity, we may be returning to the era where whom you've played is more importantby ben03 - Other Sports
Re: Ivy League Lacrosse Tournament - 12 years ago
IIRC there is total game limit per academic year (e.g. 2010-11) a school can play. This includes regular season games, scrimmages and fall ball - the allotment can be determined by each program. I believe this runs in parallel with the number of overseen official practices that must be logged that coaches can run and attend - hence the need for "captains practices." I do not know the exby ben03 - Other Sports

Re: CU-PU Lacrosse - 13 years ago
we're out shooting them 25-14, SoG 16-8, GBs 19-10 ... it seems like Fiorito is really on today. here's hoping we can keep the 3-0 run going in the second half anyone watching have any insights?by ben03 - Other Sports

okay ... crawling back into the game 6-4 with 1:26 left in the first half.by ben03 - Other Sports
Re: World Junior Championships 2011 - 13 years ago
Swampy scoop85 Great experience for him. I hope he gets some action, since Campbell will be the clear #1 Actually, not a bad development for us either. In past years this would have meant losing our #1 goalie for Florida. This year, since Schafer seems to be alternating goalies, both Garman and Iles will get high-level experience (assuming Ilse sees some ice time in the WJC). Let's hope he getby ben03 - Hockey

Re: DeLuca takes over lacrosse - 13 years ago
Jim Hyla As reported by Inside Lacrosse, Matt Rewkowski to be named Cornell's offensive coordinator. And non-CU, they report Cottle looking at Harvard. it would be interesting if Cottle and Tillman swapped jobsby ben03 - Other Sports

David Harding ... "It felt like it was a chance for our family, for my wife and I to both pursue our goals," Tambroni said. well i guess we know who wears the pants in that family ...by ben03 - Other Sports
Re: Tamboni to Penn State - 13 years ago
seriously Coach T?!? PSU ... really??? my first reaction is that i'm more than shocked b/c of his professed "love" of CU (and GB) and all that is Cornell lax. second, his publicly professed "love" of CU (and GB) and all that is Cornell lax. third ... the one thing anyone who knows this guy is that despite what he tells the world, his ego is HUGE! i'm shocked but notby ben03 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse in 2011 - 13 years ago
semsox David Mitchell begat Ryan Hurley begat ? You and I don’t know that answer, but Jeff Tambroni does. Someone will put a bushel load of Rob Panell passes in the net next year, but who? Truer words have never been spoken. I don't see Mock taking Hurlery's spot, but someone will. i don't necessarily know that won't be the case ... Mock stepped up big time in the NC$$'s with that saiby ben03 - Other Sports

Josh '99 billhoward Rob Pannell did a postgrad year at Deerfield.Yes, but Pannell wasn't committed to Cornell when he went to Deerfield, he went there to do the postgrad year because he wasn't happy with his college choices beforehand; only had one scholarship offer, at Quinnipiac. thanks Josh ... you hit it on the head. what i meant to say was i don't recall sending a kid for a PG year after cby ben03 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse in 2011 - 13 years ago
scoop85 CornellCommodore It also seems that in two years, we'll be getting a Maryland All-Metro attackman, after a year at Deerfield. Hopefully this kid, John Hogan, can put to as good a use as Pannell did. He'll be a FR when Pannell is a SR, Mock, Gillum and Fiore are JRs. Sounds like a good team to me. Baltimore Sun All-Metro Hogan is a middie, not an attackman so this begs the quesby ben03 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell vs. Notre Dame - 13 years ago
Josh '99 Apologies if this sounds like sour grapes, but: Why didn't the officials start giving ND the stall warning sooner? It was obvious that they were content to sit around and waste time as early as the second quarter. i was saying the same thing ... but then i started paying attention to the style of play that preceded the stall call. first, we were blatantly slowing down the pace, notby ben03 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell vs. Notre Dame - 13 years ago
scoop85 ben03 Good to get back to the FF, we've got a lot to look forward to next year. here's to hoping we find a lefty finisher. I'm hoping Lang (who's a lefty) can step up his game. He got the first goal today, but had little impact thereafter. exactly ... he's not a finisher. we're going to need a pure goal scorer a la Hurley, Greenhalgh, Pittard etc ... a catch and shoot attacker.by ben03 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell vs. Notre Dame - 13 years ago
#1 - ND controlled the game almost start to finish and we looked stagnant almost start to finish. #2 - Fiore looked shaky/rattled missing numerous saves i think he would have normally made. He drops his body way to early on most shots. #3 - Our offense seemed to be searching for ways to find shots that weren't at tight angles ... Pannell and Hurley were on islands all day long - a creditby ben03 - Other Sports

Josh '99 ben03 Josh '99 TimV I think it's hugely unlikely Tambroni would go anyplace that isn't Syracuse.... they've got a couple of experienced options in-house including Simmons III. RSiii is not even in the same league as Simmons i & ii or even Desko for that matter ... Kevin Donahue is a far superior in terms of technical knowledge and ability and has been there almost as long as JD.I'mby ben03 - Other Sports

Re: Cornell vs. Notre Dame - 13 years ago
First - There's no way Coach T is leaving for this job for all the reasons listed above. Second - Dave Cottle ('02-10), Dick Edell ('84-'01) and Bud Beardmore ('70-'83) were all native Marylanders ... so i stopped there thinking 40-years was far enough ... they will most definitely hire another native son. hell would likely have to freeze over before they would look outside their own for theby ben03 - Other Sports
