Re: What happens to their recruiting? - 14 years ago
Josh '99ben03TimVTierney will probably be replaced by Metzblower, but Princeton's rise to dynasty status had more than a little to do with getting so many Blue Chips, especially out of the MIAA. Will that pipeline stay open? It's even possible some current recruits or players would transfer. Probably unlikely Princeton to Denver, but how about to Harvard, or um....us? so we all know the transby ben03 - Other Sports

Re: Should the goal have counted? - 14 years ago
gotcha. thanks for looking up the specific rule Tim. as i understood, 4-9m was intended to stop "the dive" as performed by the UVa attacker and the "cylinder" was more of an interpreted application of this rule and not the letter.by ben03 - Other Sports
Re: Should the goal have counted? - 14 years ago
TimVOne quibble: you CAN pass through the cylinder in the air as long as lift-off and landing are outside the cylinder AND you do not make contact with the goaltender, his stick, or the goal. tim, my most recent understanding of this rule, unless things changed for 2009, did not allow this to happen ... although it is entirely possible i may have missed this update in the application of thiby ben03 - Other Sports
Re: Lacrosse Recruiting at Cornell - 14 years ago
Nonetheless, the question still stands. Why are so few of Cornell's recruits among the most highly ranked high school players. Lack of athletic scholarships surely plays a part, as do admission standards. Compared to hockey, lacrosse players probably come from a higher socioeconomic group, so their need-based financial aid may not match athletic scholarships. Still, with so much of New York beingby ben03 - Other Sports
Re: Should the goal have counted? - 14 years ago
here's the way we understood the rule when i played ... you must have released the ball (aka shoot) from outside the cylinder that is the crease extended infinitely upward without diving into or through that cylinder. your momentum may not carry you into the crease until the whistle is blown (aka scoring a goal) ... this is how i saw the Nims goal happening. the ball was already in the net when hby ben03 - Other Sports

Re: Detailed First Half Analysis - 14 years ago
a yeoman like methodical dismantling of a superiorly talented but less team oriented UVA squad. Myers stood up big-time in goal today and the rest was a typical Big Red style team effort. Here's to the Battle of the Colors on Monday for the NC game. Let's Go RED!!!by ben03 - Other Sports
Re: [LAX] Final Four score updates SU v. Duke - 14 years ago
Greenberg '97The thing is, the stall rule kind of encourages shooting in these games. The higher the score, the more likely for the refs to issue a stall warning. Once a stall warning is issued, a possession either ends with a shot or a turnover. You might as well take the shot. agreed ... this is a touchy subject. IMHO, it depends on the team that is losing. if they are aggressively playingby ben03 - Other Sports
Re: [LAX] Final Four score updates SU v. Duke - 14 years ago

Re: [LAX] Final Four score updates SU v. Duke - 14 years ago
DeltaOne81When does this start becoming bad sportsmanship? Fred, Are you taking about the (1) score or (2) the continued unnecessary penalties Duke keeps taking? Answer: (1) now. stop shooting and put in the reserves. (2) now. stop taking cheap shots when SU guys don't have the ball.by ben03 - Other Sports
Re: [LAX] Final Four score updates SU v. Duke - 14 years ago
getting kinda chippy ... SU's taken some overly aggressive penalties. Duke still hasn't shown up. SU 15-7 ~10min to go in 4thby ben03 - Other Sports

Re: Lax Quarterfinals vs. Princeton - 15 years ago
billhowardJosh '99billhowardben03first, i'm a bit put off by Starsia's need to hang 19 on Hop (or anyone for that matter)! i mean i hate Hopkins as much as the next fan of lacrosse but this was more than a bit classless. second, mr. myers better bring his harvard-style A+++ game next weekend or we won't have a shot past the first 10 minutes. Give Starsia credit for the being about the only personby ben03 - Other Sports

that was nasty ... like Patty Roy and the Québec Remparts nasty. very happy to hear the UM player is okay and the MSU coach came down hard and fast on his players. here's hoping we won't see anything like this in our games in the foreseeable future. ... and Burgdoerfer is still a goon.by ben03 - Hockey

Josh '99nyc94OatPeople tend to hate the elite / the strong. True but there are plenty of reasons to hate the Yankees. Re: Thursdays Injuries - 15 years ago
cayugaIt is frustrating, as a Big Red fan, to see what appeared as a serious injury to our then leading scorer, Tyler Mungford, and not had any news about the injury or his prognosis. We didn't notice him in attendance last night. This is nothing ne?, Is there a reason that serious injuries be kept a secret from the fans? this is a fairly standard protocol at all levels of hockey ... lettingby ben03 - Hockey
Re: 2 goal leads and worst records - 15 years ago
RitaWillRI believe Barry Melrose and others have referred to the 2 goal lead as the worst lead in hockey Now Barry can add having a 5-7-4 mark after 16 games as the worst record to have in hockey if you are coaching a NHL team in Tampa. Wow, those Rays really did set some high standards regarding wins and losses. So how soon until Barry gets his gig back at ESPN? tomorrow ...by ben03 - Hockey
Re: Cornell Moves Up to #14 in USCHO Poll - 15 years ago
ebilmesdaredevilcuI really am NOT looking forward to this year's Clarkson/Cornell games. I have a feeling it will be too reminiscent of the old trap games that got played 5-6 years ago and those were so ridiculously frustrating to watch. Speak for yourself...I loved those games. Some of the best games I've seen were classic Cornell clutch and grab hockey. i agree those games were great ... aby ben03 - Hockey
