Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams

Would it be possible to wait until after the game on Saturday to buy tickets for Sunday or will they be sold out by then?by jtn27 - Hockey
Re: 2013-2014 Basketball - 10 years ago
I'm going to buy tickets for the basketball game at Columbia, but, unlike at Newman, the Columbia arena appears to be assigned seating rather than general admission. Does anyone know which section at Levian is usually the Cornell/visitor's section? Am I correct in assuming that section D which the seating chart says is directly behind the visitor's bench is the visitor's section? Thanksby jtn27 - Other Sports

Re: Cornell lacrosse 2014 - 10 years ago
I haven't been able to confirm this, but I heard a rumor that the 2014 Cornell-Princeton lacrosse game will be held at Bethpage High School on Long Island as part of the 4th annual "Battle of Bethpage." The mother of a friend of mine works for BHS in an administrative capacity and she tends to hear about events held at the school before they're officially announced, so that's how I founby jtn27 - Other Sports
Re: Captain McCarron? - 11 years ago
Being a captain does not automatically make a player more mature or force them to demonstrate restraint. Players should become captains because they already are mature, demonstrate restraint, and are good leaders (we obviously don't know if McCarron is a good leader or not since we're not in the locker room). In 2011, the Jets attempted to use the captaincy to make Mark Sanchez a better leader anby jtn27 - Hockey
Re: Frozen Four Results - 11 years ago
billhoward Quinnipiac T-shirts said Beat Yale. Yale T-shirts said Yale. Far fewer Yale alums wore jerseys or sweatshirts than Cornell alums. There is the argument you shouldn't wear a team jersey past age 29 or chest size 48. I know that Quinnipiac considers Yale to be their biggest rival and Yale's reaction is "You're not Harvard." I really hope this game doesn't change that dynamicby jtn27 - Hockey
Re: Best ECAC rink - 11 years ago
billhoward The three rinks that matter are Cornell, Quinnipiac and Yale. Quinnipiac is the future of college hockey rinks with great seating for fans who aren't students and a roomy feeling for all. Plus a corporate not alumni name on the building. You need to ride a bus to get the to the hilltop facility which means students often decamp after 2nd period to get an early start on parties. Re: Frozen Four Results - 11 years ago
Kyle Rose KeithK WEll, an ECAC team is going to win this year and we'll have the effects of that (good or bad) whether we weanted them or not. Yup: there's nothing I could do about it even if I agreed with ButtLover. At this point, IMO it would be fine if both Q and Yale lost; fortunately for the ECAC, that is not a possible outcome. Well, that just seems uncalled for. Also, somewhat homophobicby jtn27 - Hockey

Re: Frozen Four Results - 11 years ago
I don't think this is good for Cornell. Prospects want to play for good teams, not bad teams in good conferences (and until we prove otherwise, we're a bad team). If anything, this will make things harder on Cornell. If a prospect is getting recruited by Cornell and Yale, why go to Cornell when he can go to another Ivy that was just in the national championship game? Also, look at the SEC. Has thby jtn27 - Hockey

css228 Rita KeithK What is this President's Day thing you speak of? I think the last time I had that day off was in high school. Ooops. According to the Federal Government, today they are honoring WASHINGTON'S birthday. However, my archaic daily planner (the "app" for my dumb phone) says it is President's day, and your local government can call today whatever it wants and of course yby jtn27 - Hockey

Re: ECAC Playoff Possibilities and Race in a Nutshell Thread - 11 years ago
CowbellGuy jtn27 Chris 02 Is the 2013 version available? Let me make it simple for you: in a nutshell, we do not have a shot at the ECAC title this year. Your nut's shell has a large hole in it. If you're saying what I think you're saying, I disagree. Technically, yes, we can still win the ECAC title. But I highly doubt that we can win 6 postseason games, at least one of which will probablyby jtn27 - Hockey

Ben dag14 Official attendance was 2182. More importantly, there were a lot of raucous students in the crowd, as well as the band. At the end of the game, several players took a run and jumped against the glass at Section D where the wrestling team and friends had been leading the cheers throughout the game. They came over to where we were causing trouble in B as well. We had a lot of pike, wallby jtn27 - Hockey

Trotsky Rinat Valiev is not a LW, but he is from Nizhnekamsk, Russia. Since we're the United Nations, that would add another country. (Wikipedia Nizhnekamsk. What if you put Elizabeth, New Jersey in the middle of Siberia?) Lately, our offense seems to be just as powerful as the United Nations.by jtn27 - Hockey

Re: Olympics to drop wrestling - 11 years ago
Trotsky jtn27 I wouldn't mind wrestling being cut, but it makes no sense when you look at some of the events that are staying, like modern pentathlon, equestrian, table tennis, and synchronized swimming. If all those events were being cut in addition to wrestling, I wouldn't care, but as it is now, it's a dumb move. Equestrian, like wrestling, is also a founding sport for the Modern Games. Re: General Women's Thread - 11 years ago
Ben jtn27 and I have been keeping track of the people around us in B -- in front and to our left (towards A) are mostly facetimers, and the people directly in front of us haven't showed up before 7:25 for any 7 PM starts this season. The best way to fill up the student sections earlier is to base the quality of the viewing experience on punctuality -- make them general admission. My favorite wby jtn27 - Hockey

css228 Kyle Rose TrotskyThere's really nothing "outrageous" about the fish tradition anymore. I'm all for continuing it, but we've just been going through the motions for years. Tying a chicken to the net was pretty outrageous. But the problem with traditions that commemorate specific events is they wind up just being me-too-ism. Trotsky jtn27 Looks like the quest for the program record consecutive losses continues. 5 more to go.Not even close. The record is 19 (1960). I looked at that exact chart. I'm not sure how I missed that long black streak. I was thinking 92-93's 11 straight was the record.by jtn27 - Hockey
