Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: General Women's Thread - 11 years ago
This question applies to both the men and women, but since we're talking about the weather here, this seems as good of a place as any to post it. As has already been mentioned, Hamden is expected to get a lot of snow tonight and tomorrow morning. What happens if the roads are closed and our women's team can't get to Hamden and/or Q's men's team can't get to Ithaca? I assume the games would be resby jtn27 - Hockey

Re: Big Line-up Changes for Brown Game - 11 years ago
Kyle Rose 6. Coaching - The coaching staff isn't reaching the players or effectively instilling in them the spirit of Cornell hockey. I'm not saying this is a problem, only that not including it in a list of potential problems is missing (or deliberately excluding) one of the more obvious inputs to a successful team. In terms of coaching, I'm not ready to suggest that Schafer be fired, butby jtn27 - Hockey
Re: Big Line-up Changes for Brown Game - 11 years ago
I'm glad to see Schafer finally shaking things up, but I'm surprised at the Miller benching. He hasn't scored goals at the same clip as last season, but I think he's been one of the more consistent and least mistake-prone players.by jtn27 - Hockey
Re: CU vs Yale - 11 years ago
Trotsky BenThe consensus among my friends is in line with what BearLover said: this season has sucked. This is why "suck" should be retired. It has been a .500 season where the team has been in almost every game. It's disappointing compared to pre-season NCAA ambitions. Every game is a nail-biter. It's far more exciting to root for the team this year than during the Silver Age iby jtn27 - Hockey

If the ECAC refs are less strict, ECAC players become conditioned to assume they will get away with more borderline actions. Re: The swim test - 11 years ago
Trotsky imafrshmn My swim test happened on my move-in day. I remember being impressed by the size of the Teagle locker room... The row of urinals in there is remarkably long--even longer than the one in Barton, if I recall. My parents, god bless them, insisted on watching from the stands. The test itself was fine for me, and I don't think I witnessed anyone not make it. I don't believe in maintaiby jtn27 - John Spencer Is Dead

Trotsky Kyle RoseThis is not rocket science: as Yale has shown, this is a solved problem. This is really the heart of the situation. As css228 pointed out to me during the game, the sieve's body language changed significantly after the 2nd goal. He looked quite dejected and 2 of the other players were talking to him; it looked they were trying to reassure him that, contrary to what the fans were chanting, it wasn't actually all his fault. andyw2100 And on top of that, after Cornell played almost a minute with a man down (Ferlin was actually in the box, and they had been skating 5-4), the refs should have reset the game clock to where the "mistaken" penalty had started, and had them play 5-5 from there. dag14 Transfer students are exempt from the Phys Ed requirement and swim test is part of the PE requirement so I assume that is the rationale. I always thought the swim test was a bare bones safety measure to prevent drowning in the campus gorges. Regardless of why we have it, it should remain in place because being able to swim is a valuable life skill. I actually thought the test was too easy and would be in favor of expanding the test from 3 laps to 10 or more (of course, maybe that's just because when I took the test I was fresh offby jtn27 - John Spencer Is Dead
