KeithK jtn27 KeithK jtn27 From what I heard, baseball got the axe because the IOC wanted pro players like in basketball and hockey, but the MLB isn't willing to take a break like the NHL. And thank God for that! It would be utterly ridiculous would it be for MLB to take two weeks off in the middl a pennant race for an international tournament. RichH billhoward Didn't realize lacrosse was a demonstration sport 60+ years ago. Sometimes that leads to it being an Olympic sport. But you can't have just 3-4 countries playing. That's what I don't understand about baseball & softball being taken away as an Olympic sport. Besides North America, it has a very strong presence in many latino countries as well as the Pacific rim countries. Tby jtn27 - Other Sports

Re: The Frozen Apple - Cornell vs. Michigan @ MSG on 11/24 - 11 years ago
RichH Aaron M. Griffin Just happened to check The Garden website: The presale begins on Friday, June 22nd at 10am and Sunday, June 24th at 10pm. Get the best seats before they go on sale to the public. So there were posters all over campus for Reunion weekend. The MSG website has information. Anyone else notice what's missing? I haven't seen any official announcement/press release/website mby jtn27 - Hockey

Re: Generic Off Season Thread - Steve Bernier 5-min major - 11 years ago
billhoward BeeeejThe other thought I have on this issue - and then I'll leave it alone, as I have too much else to do - is that the Devils have won three Stanley Cups in the last twenty years. There's no "curse" that they were trying to overcome, no 78-year old drought in progress. I doubt the Devils' fans will give it nearly as much weight as the Red Sox's fans did. When someone postby jtn27 - Hockey
Re: Generic Off Season Thread - Steve Bernier 5-min major - 11 years ago
Beeeej billhoward I was hoping for a Devils' Stanley Cup, Brodeur retires in glory, and Parise maybe gets re-signed. Instead, the sum of the season is that a team that almost didn't make the playoffs loses to a team that almost didn't make the playoffs ... and Devils fans now have their own Bill Buckner. I think that's a gross overstatement. I know that having the Kings score three goals on thby jtn27 - Hockey

Re: Michigan game seems confirmed - 11 years ago
munchkin RichH Ben Rocky '04 The facebook account for the Cornell Alumni Association posted a picture of a poster up at reunion. Saturday Nov 24 - 8pm - MSG Now I'm nervous. MSG appears to be about ready to capsize. I've heard of games where the ice appears to be tilted, but that's a little ridiculous. Is this thing on? Re: Cornell Alumni in the Pros: June 2012 - 11 years ago
Aaron M. Griffin css228 and I were operating under the assumption, that I believe to be correct still, that jtn27 was counting the 2008 World Series win as Philadelphia's "one championship in the last 40 years." That is correct. However, as I mentioned earlier, I meant to write "one championship in the last 30 years." I'm not sure why I wrote "40."by jtn27 - Hockey
Re: Cornell Alumni in the Pros: June 2012 - 11 years ago
css228 1 Championship in the last 40 years is not even close to on the mark. 40 years back from 2012 goes back to 1972. If you had said one championship in the last 27 you'd be correct, but its still more titles than the team you abandoned has won. Seriously though, good for Gagne and Hextall. Both deserve a cup. Just wish Terry MUrray's firing had worked out this well for us. And on that note coby jtn27 - Hockey

Josh '99 jtn27 css228 jtn27 billhoward Thank you, non-Devils fans, for not rubbing it in about the Devils' impending Stanley Cup demise. We can't really rub it in. Since there are no Kings fans here (I think), your team made it farther than all of ours. In fact, there's probably a pretty large contingent of Flyers and Rangers fans on eLynah, meaning you're the one with the ability to rub thingsby jtn27 - Hockey

css228 Ben css228 Ben jtn274. Cornell might change it's academic calender. No. It shouldn't but it probably will. I think you missed my point. Note the section in bold. I did. Seriously Joe? You're on the paper. Its (just kidding, it's) just a typo.by jtn27 - Other Sports
Re: The Mets threw their first no-hitter! - 11 years ago
billhoward Amazing indeed. Hard to believe a team can go 50 years and not pitch a no-hitter. Thread will branch into whether New York fans are more obnoxious than the rest, was that shot down the line really foul, somebody will recall David Einhorn '92 may or may not buy the Mets, devolving to rant about Wall Street criminals --> Occupy Wall Street. Re: Cornell Women's Hockey: Offseason - 11 years ago
billhoward Similarly, I'd like to see Bill Cosby do an R-rated show sometime. Based on what Keenan Thompson said when he visited Cornell a few months ago about filming the Fat Albert movie with Cosby, Cosby would probably be very good at that type of show. He said that when the cameras were off Cosby was telling dirty jokes. I won't repeat them here because 1) I learned my lesson and 2) it wasby jtn27 - Hockey
