i appreciate the connection to stienburg as to "why cornell" - he may not have been very open about looking into colleges and that kind of informal pipeline may have had him fall into our lap.

while i'm typing this, a difference comes to mind between cournoyer and robertson @BearLover - Cournoyer's departure feels more mercenary and Robertson's more organic. I don't think Robertson arrived in Ithaca looking for a stepping stone but took an offer when it was made. Something about Cournoyer (in retrospect, and without any actual judgment of him as a person) feels like he may have been. Plus, Cournoyer leaves a much bigger hole in the lineup.

Divver says Cornell recruited Miller before Denver? And that we could get involved.
Casey probably recruited him from Quebec last season when he was looking for a goalie and ended up getting Cournoyer. I'm sure Casey will inquire but I'd be shocked if a 4th round pick were willing to drop from the NCHC to the ECAC.

If he's looking at three more years of Hicks being Denver's go-to, which is not at all an unreasonable assumption, then he may be looking for a place where he's more likely to be the #1. Cornell has both hockey and goalie bona fides, and as has been suggested here in other contexts, a Cornell degree has significantly more cache than all the other NCHC schools. I'm not saying it'll happen, but it wouldn't surprise me nearly as much as it apparently would you.

He's certainly looking for playing time, that's why he left. But he's probably the best goalie in the portal right now (or on par with Cournoyer) so I have a hard time believing he'd choose Cornell when schools like BC and WMU are recruiting him.

Yep, BL is right here. Cornell does have the bona fides, and the door is WIDE fucking open here to take the net, but it's one thing to be competing against RPI for a commit and another to be doing so against BC, BU, WMU (who, if they want him enough, will throw money at him).

Of course, I'd be delighted if we somehow eke those guys out, but if that's the type of team we're competing against to get him, it would be surprising to land him.

Unsurprisingly he just committed to WMU.

Dana "Ocean" Wallace, Winter's little brother, just entered the transfer portal after two years at St. Cloud State where he got only slightly more ice time than I did. I assume Cornell isn't going to be interested, though maybe he'll end up with Winter at St. Thomas.

I figured when Winter entered the portal that he'd go to SCSU to play with his brother. Maybe they'll reunite.

The guy with like, zero experience?

Zero coaching, it appears, but loads of hockey experience. He's a Yale alum. Idk seems good enough to fall upwards.

After the scathing assessment of the University's Athletic Director and general atmosphere, I'm not sure who would want to take that job. Kieth Allain really tossed a flaming turd as he walked out the door.
