Quote from: Beeeej on April 15, 2026, 08:01:40 AMSo amid all this doomsaying and speculating over why, am I seriously the only one who's noticed that Courns has not actually yet shown up in the portal? We're taking the word of a tweet over (so far, anyway) the actual facts on the ground. If it happens, well, shit. But I like my garments too much to rend them prematurely, and I look terrible in sackcloth and ashes.
The thing is, McMahon said it on Twitter. McNally reposted and seemed to validate it. Adam here is telling us it looks like Wisconsin is the betting favorite.

If it was some idiot posting it, that's one thing. But those are three relatively reliable sources, all aligned on this.

It's possible Cournoyer isn't officially in the portal yet because he wants to iron out "a deal", as it were, with whoever is taking him before he does. You see guys enter the portal semi-frequently with "do not contact" tags - which essentially means they've already figured out where they're going. Plus, he's got at least a week to figure it out.

Would I love for all of this to be an elaborate April Fool's Day prank? Yes, absolutely. But...

Quote from: stereax on April 15, 2026, 01:26:53 AMalso humble request to any cornell hockey affiliated people that may be reading this forum: today (04/15) is my birthday. woot, or something. idk. i'm already in hell with assignments because i have two essays due today that i haven't started yet, plus i've got three hours of makeup classes in the afternoon that ensure i'll get home no earlier than 7 pm, absolutely drained and in no mood to do anything except curl up in bed and cry myself to sleep. and i don't even have a cake or anything like that to "celebrate". AND the devils are bad and got shut out by the boston fucking bruins, but they're not bad enough to be in lottery range. so can you pretty please, with sugar on top, put a leash on any other possible pro signings/transfers out/whatever until tomorrow? because the cournoyer one was already a kick in the balls. please? i don't need any more reasons to be sad. life sucks enough already. thanks for your consideration. <3

Uh, Happy Birthday?

Quote from: chimpfood on April 14, 2026, 06:03:15 PMIn hindsight, we shouldn't be surprised that the guy that bailed on his MJAHL team as soon as he got a chance in the Q, and bailed on his Q team as soon as he got a chance in college left for a better opportunity. I'm somewhat hopeful that this first wave of CHL guys will use the portal like crazy but it will wind down a little in the future
Hockey players switch teams all the time. The problem is more that these late-blooming CHL kids probably don't care about education at all, they just want the fastest opportunity to jump up a level in hockey. If a kid commits to an Ivy at a younger age it indicates they and their family are specifically seeking out an education.

This is exactly what I just said - re: Cournoyer - in the other thread. Kumbaya.

Anyway it's official.

Best of luck to him, wherever he lands, and I hope it turns out to be the right decision for him.

This from a friend, not about hockey, but speaks to the sorry state of college athletics:
"Don't know if I mentioned this, but the Wall Street Journal had an article a week or so ago about Michigan's basketball program, with the coach saying that he doubts that he will ever again enter the home of a high school recruit, that all of his recruiting will be from the portal and he will have plenty of dollars to do the talking."

Transfer portal

So far, only Cornellian listed is Winter Wallace, who's a grad transfer.

That's what I'm still seeing, too.

On the other hand, A.J. Lacroix being listed with 21 years of eligibility remaining doesn't exactly lend me confidence in overall accuracy here.

Your birthday is Tax Day? Sorry, but that pretty much kills every imaginable vibe right there.

Tax Day, Lincoln dies, Titanic sinks, Notre Dame burns, Boston Marathon bombing... and I was born. Perhaps the worst thing out of all of these.

I understand he has to do what is best for him but what the heck ever happened to commitment

I'll just say that you never know the circumstances. Maybe he's miserable in Ithaca or has some other reason to want to leave.

Or maybe he's pursuing a big bag of cash. I can't really fault him for that, either.
I get it but wondering how a prospective employer looks at these types of situations beyond hockey
they absolutely do not give a shit. stop inventing things to be concerned about.
Well, if you have been on any job interviews lately, I'm not making things up

It's official, Courns is live in the portal. No team listed as the takers yet, though.

I would use the Grand Forks Herald as No. 1 accuracy

First of all, Happy Birthday, Stereax!

As for Wines...

Quote from: DafatoneNot at all relevant to the discussion, but about 20 years ago (yikes) a professor told us that Intro to Wines was the most failed class at Cornell.

An engineering friend of mine in the class literally shouted, "lies!" in response to this. Which was pretty entertaining in a huge lecture hall.

When I was a student in the mid-80's, everyone generally wanted to take Wines second semester senior year. I had a friend who had skipped a year of school, and was thus a year younger than most seniors. The drinking age was going up, and he would not have been able to take wines second semester senior year, so he took it in the fall semester. At the time the professor or professors teaching wines would make the first prelim really hard, to encourage people to take the class seriously. Many people did really poorly on that first prelim. They made other prelims or the final easy, so very few, if any, people actually failed, but somehow we didn't know that.

I was creating my spring schedule around the time of the first prelim in the fall. I wound up taking an additional course, so that even if I failed Wines I would still have enough credits to graduate. I knew that if I failed wines and that resulted in my not being able to graduate, my parents would have killed me! So that first difficult Wines prelim resulted in me taking an additional course my last semester at Cornell.

Quote from: ursusminor on April 15, 2026, 02:24:31 AMSorry about Cournoyer. Yes, really. Anything bad for a league team is bad for all teams in the league, although I make an exception for Union. They lost their leading scorer whose name I can't spell and am too lazy to look up.

I often get information about RPI players in a do-not-reveal mode. A while back, I heard about a CHL player whom RPI was after. I didn't expect RPI to get him for a reason which would probably reveal who he is. Anyway, he committed to Cornell in the last couple of days. I could not find anything on line yet which is typical. He won't in any way replace Cournoyer, but he should be a significant contributor on offense.

Mitch Gillam's cousin?  ;)

I didn't find a cousin for either listed on Elite Prospects.

Happy Birthday, Stearax!
