Adam Mitchell (Colgate '05) retires - 2 years ago
We don't have an "opponents' alumni in the pros" section, but I thought I'd put this here. Adam Mitchell, Colgate '05, just announced his retirement after 17 seasons playing professional hockey in Germany. He just won the DEL2 championship with Löwen Frankfurt, which he captained from 2018-2021 (which is why I know about his activities; his name and number are on my replica jersey), eby jtwcornell91 - Hockey
Re: 3x3 OT proven silly - 2 years ago
marty abmarks marty AHCA. There was lots of debate on this board about 3x3 OT and how little OT wins were valued. The article Marty found has has some actual quantitative analysis and is the best argument I've seen for playing traditional overtime and not this silly stuff. TLDR: ot wins and losses are irrelevant with current rules and might as well have just been ties. Here's the poby jtwcornell91 - Hockey

blackwidow Exactly this. Cornell loyalty >>> very unlikely pro hockey career Not everyone expects to play in the bigs. We had a player a few years back whose plan was to play college hockey well enough to play pro hockey in Europe, because it would give him the opportunity to live in another country.by jtwcornell91 - Hockey

CU77 And Denver scores 2, and then 3 empty-netters, to win 5-1 So the Belt and the National Championship are united once again. (Do I recall correctly that we had the Belt when the season was called off in 2020 and therefore kept it until Fall 2021?)by jtwcornell91 - Hockey

George64 Scersk '97One of my many concerns regarding the Roosevelt Island project is whether it will cause a brain drain in science and engineering from the Ithaca campus to the great detriment of the University. Frankly, a Cornell without engineers rubbing shoulders with hotelies, architects (even the misled ones), etc., etc. is not Cornell. BearLover Trotsky RichH Trotsky CAS Quinnipiac’s top 6 scorers this year are all either seniors or grad transfers, so next year’s team will look a lot different than this year’s team.Unless Perets leaves I think they're still gonna rock. billhoward No question RIT is a pretty good school. Maybe RIT joining ECAC will raise its profile with recruits. Atlantic Hockey where RIT resides now has 10 schools and other than Army and Air Force, the only other school you think as a name sports school is Holy Cross. RIT has 17,000 undergraduate students; the others have 1,700 (AIC) to 4,400 (Army, Air Force). Academically, RIT is at 117 in tby jtwcornell91 - Hockey

billhoward The Albany arena, site of the (East?) NCAA regional, is now MVP Arena. It was Times Union Center 2007-2021. I wondered for years how long a newspaper would hold naming rights to a place with more seats than the TU soon would have subscribers. WIki The naming rights of the arena were sold to Pepsi in 1997 and it was known as Pepsi Arena from 1997 to 2006.In May 2006, the naming righby jtwcornell91 - Hockey

Jim Hyla jtwcornell91 Russia's hockey program has been consistently infuriating for the last 25 years or so, even (espeically) when they're pretending to play under another name. How about, rather they're given the chance to play under another name. Let's put blame on the offender and the enabler. Agreed. Trotsky Iceberg Some kind of bizarre situation with Mankato/Bemidji. OT goal awarded that turns out to not be a goal and the teams have already left the arena after Mankato was crowned as the CCHA conference tournament winner. Trotsky DafatoneIndeed. Other team hatreds come and go. Dallas Cowboys in the 90s, Duke basketball in the 00s. Braves hatred is eternal. The chop is racist, they built their team on human trafficking, and the Ozzie Albies contract should be voided as unconscionable. Cowboys in the 70s. Pedo State. BearLover billhoward We've been talking about how few Ivy teams have won the NCAAs since 1970. We're in the ECAC as well as the Ivy League and there's also RPI and Union, neither of them academic slouches, who've won titles. I would like to see Clarkson win Saturday over Quinnipiac and both go to the NCAAs. (Clarkson may have to win both games to go.) Q has a chance to go all the way. We may notby jtwcornell91 - Hockey

CU2007 Top 3 teams in the league all lost in regulation. Could be a wild ECAC tourney! Clarkson lost to Yale in OT, so they got a point. If I'm reading it right, that means they can still catch Q, since they're only 3 points back and hold the tiebreaker.by jtwcornell91 - Hockey

Colgate 30 points ECAC points in league games: win 3 points, overtime or shootout win 2 points, OT or shootout loss 1 point. Trotsky I am perfectly fine with no review and no replays, in all sports. Play the game in the present. Especially in hockey, where a bunch of stuff can happen after the reviewed play and then get wiped out. But really, at some point an occasional bad call has to be the lesser evil to incessant game-killing interruptions and delays.by jtwcornell91 - Hockey

Re: Dartmouth Game Thread - 2 years ago
Trotsky upprdeck hurts to lose a game where you basically allow 10 shots on goal.We tied. I don't see the point in pretending there's a difference between losing in OT and in a shootout. They're exactly the same in the league standings (unless they affect tiebreakers, which the ECAC has still not given a straight answer about AFAIK), and the difference in the NCAA's accounting is miniscule.
