Re: NCAA Tournament Game Thread 3/29 - 10 years ago
Don't tune in late to the games. BC up 1-0 and the game isn't even 2 minutes old. Union now up 2-0.by Rita - Hockey
Re: NCAA Tournament Game Thread 3/28 - 10 years ago
Trotsky Wisco-NoDak tied at 1 after 1 in a very entertaining game. NDak scores 2 ENGs and beats Wisconsin 5-2. Ironically, it was Wisconsin winning the Big 6/10/12/14 title (rather than Ohio State) that gave NDak the last at large bid.by Rita - Hockey
Re: NCAA Tournament Game Thread 3/28 - 10 years ago
andyw2100 Rita Union's 3rd goal was very pretty. Though scored on the PP, not a typical PPG in that the goal was scored on the rush in, rather than after being set up in the zone. Also not typical in that it was actually deflected in by a Vermont player. From my low def/low res tv and eyeballs, it looked like Union got the deflection. Sorry about that.by Rita - Hockey

Re: Should He Stay or Should He Go 2014 - 10 years ago
KeithK BearLover Trotsky I don't see anybody in the current landscape who fits, and I see the job as Mike's until he decides to retire. He's about 50, so that's not going to be for a long time. His contract expires in 2016. At which time it will most likely be renewed. I think there is zero chance that he would be forced out if the team continues to have seasons like the last one. Oh Keith, Iby Rita - Hockey

Trotsky TowerroadI do have a problem with the "He has to cook with the ingredients he has" mentality. He is responsible for recruiting he chose the ingredients. I do think that the "System" with its focus on defense probably does not help him recruit fast, skating, players with a penchant for accurate shooting and NHL dreams. If you were one would you choose Cornell vs BC or Yby Rita - Hockey

Kyle Rose I said "unsure", mainly because that was the closest option of the three to how I actually feel. If it wasn't obvious from the other thread, I think Schafer is doing a (mostly) bang-up job on defense, and a lousy job on offense. I would be satisfied if he brought in a talented assistant to take control of the offense, because the last 10 years have made it abundantly clear thaby Rita - Hockey

Jim Hyla Clarkson women beat Minny for NCAA title 5-4. Clarkson's WICE should change their nickname to the "Lady Golden Gopher Killers". Congrats to them!by Rita - Hockey
Re: What is your definition of a Successful Season - 10 years ago
KeithK upprdeck interesting how high we hold the expectations for the team. as much as we want better players and better results maybe we should be putting some pressure on admissions. no doubt the team would be a bit better of some of the kids they wanted could actually get into the school, if a kid can get in yale/harvard he should be able to get into cornell.. As much as I want the hockey teby Rita - Hockey
Re: What is your definition of a Successful Season - 10 years ago
Rita For both teams: top four in the ECAC, making the conference semi-finals and making the NC$$ tourney. For the boys, also include more discipline with respect to committing fewer penalties. The women did well, I guess Mercyhurst is our kryponite. The men fell short with not making the NC$$s. I'm not sure about the penalties, but there seemed to be fewer penalties (or ones that made me wantby Rita - Hockey
Re: 2013-2014 Basketball - 10 years ago
toddlose How much you think it'll take? I'm not sure, but IU alumni care about their basketball 100X times more than I think the Cornell alumni base. When I lived in the land of the Boilermakers (West Lafayette, 2004-2009), it was practically a state of emergency/diaster when the Indiana basketball teams did not make the NC$$s. I don't remember the exact numbers, but a substantial amount of monby Rita - Other Sports

scoop85 CAS Is there any accountability for performance? From what I see and hear it's likely a matter that Cornell doesn't have it in the athletic department budget to fire coaches without cause (and being a horrible coach is not cause, as much as we might like it to be). Barring some miraculous turnaround next year, I assume Courtney will just be a lame duck -- which is certainly not beneficby Rita - Other Sports
Re: Conference Playoffs: Non-conference rooting interests - 10 years ago
Since Cornell is out, I'm all for the underdog/bid-stealers in other conference. Let's see what a "hot" team that ran the table in their conference tournament can do in the NC$$. UNH, tOSU and Miami seem to be contenders. I would like to see Colgate get in so that the ECAC has three representatives. I would like to see Michigan and Vermont knocked out.by Rita - Hockey
Re: Conference Playoffs: Michigan v. Penn State - 10 years ago
According live box and twitter feeds, Penn State wins 2-1!. The free michigan audio cut out after the first OT. Bummer about that, but the end result was sweet. We are now #15 PWR, Michigan drops to #16by Rita - Hockey
Re: Conference Playoffs: Michigan v. Penn State - 10 years ago
after 1 OT, still tied at 1. The Michigan announcers are really happy that the tie will be resolved by "real hockey" and not the shoot-out that they use in the regular season. Go Lions!by Rita - Hockey

Re: Conference Playoffs: Non-conference rooting interests - 10 years ago
Does anyone know if there is a free audio link for this afternoon's Big 6/10/12/14 play-in game between Michigan and Penn State? It is a 3 pm face-off. I found this link on the Michigan site, so it will be trial and error to see if any of them stream for free on the internet. Go Nittany Lions!by Rita - Hockey

Trotter went down with a season ending injury in minicamp (IIRC), though was able to work out with the practice squad at season's end. Jim Hyla Trotsky The win puts us back at 16. The Atlantic Hockey winner will be a vulture, so the line is currently at 15. The other conference survivors are: Big N: (11) Michigan; Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State ECAC: (3) Union, (6) Quinnipiac, (15) Colgate, (16) Cornell HE: (7) Lowell, (8) Notre Dame, (9) Providence; UNH WCHA: (4) Ferris, (12) Mankato; Bowling Green, UAA NCHby Rita - Hockey

Dartmouth beats RPI 5-4 to advance to the QFs. Clarkson still hanging onto a 1 goal lead. under 4 min left in the 3rd. Clarkson does hang on to win its first playoff series in an eternity (at least according to the Clarkson announcers).by Rita - Hockey
Re: 2013-14 Women's Ice Hockey in NC$$ tourney - 10 years ago
billhoward Rita Mercyhurst @ #2 Cornell Saturday 3/15 @ 3:30 pm (per Mercyhurst's website, listed as tentative start time) Why not show loyalty to Cornell and show the time as per Cornell's website? Who'd know more, quicker, than the hosting team? I did look there, but the Athletic department hasn't posted anything yet. Last of the host teams to do so. This is deserving of its own thread. Here is the bracket. BU @ #1 Minnesota Saturday 3/15 @ 5 pm (EDT) Harvard @ #4 Wisconsin Saturday 3/15 @ 8 pm (EDT) Mercyhurst @ #2 Cornell Saturday 3/15 @ 3:00 pm BC @ #3 Clarkson Saturday 3/15 at 4 pm per the Clarkson MICE announcers. Bummer that three of the games will be airing concurrently.by Rita - Hockey

Jim Hyla Rita BU @ #1 Minnesota Harvard @ #4 Wisconsin Mercyhurst @ #2 Cornell BC @ #3 Clarkson Games are on either Friday or Saturday. I guess to be announced shortly by the host schools. For what it's worth, the NCAA site lists all games as Sat. 3/15. I thought the talking head who read the pairings said the games would be held on 14th/15th. Given that the FF is in Hamden, CT, I wby Rita - Hockey

If BC live stats is correct, BU beats BC 3-2 to take the Hockey East title. According to USCHO's pwr table, that should knock Mercyhurst out, and put BU as the #7 seed. The women's bracket supposedly comes out at 6 pm tonight.by Rita - Hockey
