Re: State of eLynah Address - 9 years ago
Because it is the Harvard game I wore my jersey to work today. Let's Go RED!!!! I have no idea what the kids do today but even though I can't get in as often, I'm glad ELF is here. Thank you Age.by Rita - Hockey

Trotsky Dafatone Just saw that Columbus is calling up Sean Collins.Brings our active number to 5 IINM. And apparently in the line-up tonight wearing #37. CBJ losing 2-0 to the Maple Leafs, end of the 2nd period.by Rita - Hockey

Kyle Rose Rita Not sure where to put this tidbit. On Friday's (10/10) Olberman's show Worst Persons in the Sports World segment Has he featured himself yet? Not yet. He is too busy trying to get Roger Goodell fired and a nickname change for that NFL team in DC. I don't mind the rants, they make the dog walks more entertaining.by Rita - Hockey

Not sure where to put this tidbit. On Friday's (10/10) Olberman's show Worst Persons in the Sports World segment, Keith had AHL Adirondack's Flames President Brian Petrovek and the rest of the organization for their mascot selection. This year the Adirondack team is affiliated with the Calgary Flames and as such needed a new mascot...SCORCH and Keith thought the Adirondack's Flames didn't thinkby Rita - Hockey

Does anyone know what is up with Colin Greening? He was not in the line-up for last night's game v. the Predators (at least according to the box score on nhl.com). Ben Scrivens had a rough night in the Oilers 5-2 loss to Calgary.by Rita - Hockey

Trotsky How much trouble can you get into in Hamden? Don't you mean Schenectady? Or did these players take a wrong turn on their way to take a swim in Yale's pool?by Rita - Hockey
Re: Alumni in the Pros - September 2014 - 9 years ago
An article from the Naples Daily News (9/17/14, not available for free on-line) on the start of the Everblades training camp indicates that last season's late addition Andy Iles is not likely to stick with the team. The Everblades expect to get at least one goalie each from the Carolina Hurricanes and Tampa Bay Lightning, thus leaving Andy as the odd man out.by Rita - Hockey

From today's 8/25/14 MMQB: "7. Looking for a subplot for the big Green Bay-Seattle opener? Check out center, where the Packers might be playing a rookie, Corey Linsley, the fifth-round pick from Ohio State, in the wake of prospective starter J.C. Tretter going down for a few weeks with a knee injury Friday night. Linsley, as of Sunday, had not snapped a ball with the first-team offense sby Rita - Other Sports
Re: USA in the World Cup - 9 years ago
Today's game reminded me of how important it is to have "finishers"; players who can put the ball in the goal (puck in the net) when the game is on the line. I hate overtime/extra time losses.by Rita - John Spencer Is Dead

billhoward Jim Hyla djk26 Not Cornell alum related, but also not deserving of its own thread... I can't be the only one who finds it weird to be rooting FOR Dominic Moore now. I'm with you, although maybe not feeling as strange. Just like I rooted for Yale and then Union, I can root for a former Harvard player. Who is well-spoken, who represents what's left of amateur college sports, who losby Rita - Hockey

RichH Digit Murphy was a guest for a short segment about Women's Hockey on the anniversary show of "Only A Game." She is a good interview and her description of how teams/players back in her day traveled to road games compared to today was amusing.by Rita - Hockey

A nice article on the 1979 Boston v. Montreal playoff series and the "Too Many Men" call that sent game 7 into OT. It fits here, because Dryden was in goal for Montreal, his last season in the NHL.by Rita - Hockey
Re: Alumni in the pros - April 2014 - 9 years ago
kicksave Douglas Murray has not played for the Canadiens in the playoffs so far. Healthy scratch every game. Murray is in the line-up for tonight's game in Montreal.by Rita - Hockey
Re: New Rules? - 9 years ago
Jim Hyla This week is the meeting to discuss new rules. Ugh. Why do we have to have a WINNER for each regular season contest? If two teams play to a tie, so be it. Each team gets a point and tries to do better the next time out. I'm ok with the current ECAC 5 min 5v5 OT session. If they do go to some freaking shoot-out system, I hope the college powers that be have better math skills than tby Rita - Hockey

This is off topic, but not worthy of a new thread, but hey, they are all alumni of at least one team, and they were pros . I ask forgiveness from the moderators. I'm moving and going through stuff and trying to purge items from my life. I came across ~ 60 NHL Pro Set hockey cards from the early 1990's (1992, the Whale was still in Hartford, and Quebec still had a hockey team). There was a noteby Rita - Hockey
Re: Jeff Matthews (football) - 10 years ago
billhoward Junior year, with a year more for him to show more, he was considered a definite draft candidate. His arm and IQ are assets. His athleticism is less certain. Some analyses of Jeff Matthews: Before senior season After the season Chatter on this afternoon's Moving the The Chains (Sirius XM) was that Matthews would be a nice late round pick for the Chicago Bears. Re: Frozen Four - 10 years ago
The small consolation in having the ECAC win back-to-back championship is that both years they knocked out Minnesota enroute to the hardware. Union definitely was sacraficing the body... a lot of block shots and made a lot of key plays. As bittersweet as it is, they definitely earned it.by Rita - Hockey
Re: Frozen Four - 10 years ago
Minnesota sure is taking a lot of stupid penalties. Surprisingly that Union has yet to capitalize on the PP.by Rita - Hockey
Re: Frozen Four - 10 years ago
Might be 7-6 by the end of the second period. Union up 4-2 with 3 minutes left in the first. Wow.by Rita - Hockey
Re: Frozen Four - 10 years ago
Kyle Rose TrotskyRoot for the ECAC to Lose I LOLed. I think that distillation pretty much sums it up. I'm rooting for an ice malfunction that swallows up both Union and Minnesota. Ugh. In my warped mind, North Dakota was the most palatable team to root for. Oh well.by Rita - Hockey
Re: Frozen Four - 10 years ago
Towerroad Trotsky Even better, ESPN is streaming the Union game without commentary or commercials. It's a dream come true. Entertaining game but a lot of unsportsman like behavior. Both teams seem to be skating with the puck across the blue line. I though the sporting thing to do was to flip the puck into the corner to give the other team a fair chance at it. . I hope anyone who went to the Atlanta Braves home opener got there early. Pre-game festivities were kind of exciting. I guess that is a new visual for "rockets red glare".by Rita - Other Sports
Re: Can offensive skills be taught at this level? - 10 years ago
Take this with a big grain of salt, but here are my two cents worth. I have played some hockey (rec league and slightly more competitive). I could not put the puck in the ocean if I was standing on an island and I lacked speed. Because of that, I always focused more on being in position and making sure I covered my person/area in the D-zone and didn't get caught in the offensive zone. As such, Iby Rita - Hockey

KeithK Rita It might be easier than saving the score cards that you filled out, save and bring with you every time you move. (While packing this weekend, I found a score card from a 1997/1998? San Diego Padres @ Pittsburgh Pirates game from the old 3 rivers stadium). A website (or the spreadsheet I have now) can't replace the actual ticket stubs and scorecards, even if they may be a pain to moveby Rita - Other Sports
Baseball Passport, track the games you go to - 10 years ago
A cool way to keep track of the games/stadiums you have attended. The site has games for Major and minor leagues. Check back to the site in a few weeks and you can add in the Cornell and other college baseball games you attended. It might be easier than saving the score cards that you filled out, save and bring with you every time you move. (While packing this weekend, I found a score carby Rita - Other Sports

Colin Greening has been out of the Ottawa line-up with a "lower body thing". However, that hasn't stopped him from showing why he won the Lowe's Senior CLASS award. He must of minored in Geography .by Rita - Hockey
Re: NCAA Tournament Game Thread 3/29 - 10 years ago
Trotsky Rita If I were a betting woman, I'd put money on Rocco Grimaldi scoring for NDak and winning this in OT. I hope I'm wrong on the team.Ferris playing wonderful team defense, very much in our style. I share your fear that the Skating Racists will just have too many chances. If FSU wins it's going to be by sneaking behind NoDak and getting a cheapy. Shit. NDak wins on a goal earlby Rita - Hockey
