Re: Signs/Cheers/Chants for North Dakota - 15 years ago
The "You love Nazis" cheer should only be used if the NoDak fans get really offensive towards our fans. Even then, I know that it probably shouldn't be used at all. It's probably less effective, since the average fan likely does not know the background of Mr. Engelstad. "Go-pher rejects" works much better. I know very little about the WCHA, but I know that if you can finby djk26 - Hockey
Re: Signs/Cheers/Chants for North Dakota - 15 years ago
Thanks for the link, Rich. The description of the arena is just embarassing; it looks like it was written by an overeager junior college student. "In its inaugural season (2001-02) in the new Ralph Engelstad Arena, Fighting Sioux Hockey attendance erupted into an all time high." What's the subject of this sentence? Can attendance "erupt"? "Since opening itsby djk26 - Hockey

RichHWait...so Jim Lehrer isn't an actual voter? You probably know this already, RichH, but, actually, Jim Lehrer DOESN'T vote. Here's a transcript of an interview with Larry King where Lehrer talks about not voting. Personally, I encourage everyone to vote, especially someone who has seen the candidates up close. Even if you want to vote for someone other than the two of them, or &quoby djk26 - John Spencer Is Dead

Re: ESPN's Andy Katz on Cornell in NIT - 15 years ago
I like CornellFan. His blog is terrific, and provides great information about the basketball team. Having said that, this particular posting probably not worth too much attention.by djk26 - Other Sports

Re: Cornell to play two @ North Dakota - 16 years ago
This is great. And I see that ND will be traveling to Harvard. Maybe Harvard will visit North Dakota next year? They better be planning a return trip to Ithaca next year, too.by djk26 - Hockey

Re: Cornell Basketball Recruiting War - 16 years ago
Thanks, CornellFan. Your explanation makes perfect sense: it comes down to money for Rivals.com. I still wonder exactly how ArizonaPreps helped steer Watt to Rutgers. It's almost as if he had a for-profit agent getting him to a college. That strikes me as odd.by djk26 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell Basketball Recruiting War - 16 years ago
CornellFanWe are not attacking Mitchell personally--- just questioning the wisdom of a possible college decision. I know. That's why I said this: djk26The comments so far on the blog are respectful towards him, which is good. (Even though I do agree with the comments that he made a bad decision.) Here's another question: What is ArizonaPreps, exactly, and why do they care if he goes toby djk26 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell Basketball Recruiting War - 16 years ago
I have two thoughts on this, CornellFan. I'm the person ("david" who asked you about Watt on your blog forum, so you know that I think he would have been a solid addition. My first thought, therefore, is that I'm disappointed that he is not coming to Cornell (I'm confused about his verbal commitment--didn't know he had made one--and the role of ArizonaPreps.) My second thought is abby djk26 - Other Sports
Re: Selection Show - 16 years ago
Wow, thread drift. (points to self): "It's all your fault!" Beeeej, I think that it was the attitude of many of the people that "helped" us that turned me off. It was as if, "Well, if you want to have an event here, you need to fill out these 19 forms. Oh, you want help in how to do it? That's not my problem. I just need you to fill out the forms. KeithKDon't worry. Over time they will lose their ability to amaze as you slip into cynicism. Doesn't take that long either. It's already started to happen, Keith. I planned an alumni event in August. It was a great success, and many of the people at Cornell worked hard to make it happen (especially the staff at the Statler.) But my God it was hard to work with some of them in planning eventby djk26 - Hockey
Re: Selection Show - 16 years ago
Jacob '06Yes, there were a ton of problems with hosting the lax regional. The most glaring one was that the scoreboard stopped working for the end of one of the games and they had to keep time manually on the sidelines and yell to the players how much time was left. IIRC, they also ran out of food at the concession stands before it was over. The incompetence of Cornell University never ceasesby djk26 - Hockey
Re: Selection Show - 16 years ago
DeltaOne81, what do you mean? Were there a lot of problems with hosting that regional? I'm asking because I genuinely don't know.by djk26 - Hockey

Re: All Ivy Hoops - 16 years ago
Al DeFloriougarteThat's a bit ungenerous. I think the reaction was more a combination of "A 7-footer? Cool!" (I count myself in this group) to "A walk-on 7-footer at St. Bonaventure with zero college experience? Can he play?" (which I remember as Al's reaction, but I could be wrong) No, you're exactly right. CornellFan is probably referring to these comments: Comments oby djk26 - Other Sports
Re: All Ivy Hoops - 16 years ago
That's fantastic: men's AND women's player of the year are both from Cornell. Does the Ivy League select coaches of the year? I'm guessing not, if we haven't heard about it already. Congratulations to both programs. I have a good feeling about the women's team this weekend.by djk26 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell will play DC/HU on Sunday - 16 years ago
I agree, Keith, scoring margins is certainly a flawed method. It's too flawed, from what you are saying. At least it's tied to effort on the court, but I think you have a valid point about statistical noise. Hey, if Cornell, Harvard or Dartmouth wanted to avoid this, the team should have won one more game. Good luck to Cornell; having TWO basketball teams in two NCAA tournaments from one scby djk26 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell will play DC/HU on Sunday - 16 years ago
Congratulations to the women's program, and good luck on Sunday. But this just seems like a lousy way to determine who gets a bye. Each of the three teams had 1-1 records against each of the other two. Cornell's other loss was to Columbia, which finished 7-7 in the league. Dartmouth's other loss was also to Columbia. Harvard's other loss was to Yale, which finished 7-7 in the league. So tby djk26 - Other Sports
Re: [W. Hoops] 3-way tie for the Championship! - 16 years ago
Wow, that's great. Congratulations to the women's team. Does anyone have a link to the full tiebreaking procedures in the Ivy League? A few years ago, when the men's teams for Princeton, Penn and Yale finished tied, there was a two-game playoff: Princeton vs. Yale, the winner vs. Penn. It was done this way because Penn had a superior head-to-head record, so they received a "first roundby djk26 - Other Sports
Re: ESPN.com Men's B-ball Frontpage - 16 years ago
I hate UConn. This stems from when they played Yale a few years ago (who hung in there for a half, before getting beat up in the 2nd half) and there was an over-enthusiastic Yale player who commented afterwards, "Maybe we'll see them in the postseason." A stupid comment, admittedly, since Yale (like Cornell at the time) had very little chance of reaching the NCAA tournament. But UCby djk26 - Other Sports

"Ithaca campus" mention in NYT crossword puzzle - 16 years ago
As a daily (non-weekend) New York Times crossword puzzle attempter (not always solver) and proud Cornell alumnus, I was happy to see a clue for "Ithaca campus" in today's puzzle. Both Coach Tambroni and Max Seibald got some screen time in the "Inside Lacrosse" preview, aired on ESPN2 today. Max was ranked number four of four Tewaarton candidates featured.
