Re: Lynah not ready for fall opener? - 18 years ago
jkahnIf things are properly mobilized beforehand, there's no reason why the job can't be done between March and September. You just need to make sure everything is ready and well planned out beforehand. I've seen a 200,000 sq. foot manufacturing plant with 28,000 sq. feet of office space be built in that timeframe, and that was starting with a greenfield site with no electric, gas or running waby David Harding - Hockey

Anyone in Ithaca with time to see what is available for viewing at City Hall and give us a report?by David Harding - Hockey
Re: Ithaca Journal on Lynah Renovations - 18 years ago
I'd be very surprised if the City posts a copy of the plans, but they should be available for review at City Hall. If they were going to put the plans on-line, it would have been before the meeting to allow public comment, but that's not typical procedure in communities I've paid attention to. There may be a little more information in the next Cornell Chronicle.by David Harding - Hockey
Re: Guaranteed ECAC Title vs Guaranteed NCAA Advance - 18 years ago
billhowardC'mon, aren't you frustrated that Cornell hasn't won a national champsionship (in hockey) since before you were born and almost certainly since before you attended Cornell? If you were a Cornell undergrad and saw Cornell win the NCAA title, you're at least, what, 53 years old. ...There are few of us here, and within our lifetimes (if not memories) the Cornell football team beat Michigaby David Harding - Hockey

Re: Bill Gates Hall > goodbye Hoy Field? - 18 years ago
billhoward... Surprised Cornell hasn't tried to expand more across the gorge into collegetown. It would screw up the CTown atmosphere somewhat but there aren't many architecturally signifiant rental apartments that would be lost.I'm not surprised. The University doesn't own land in Collegetown beyond Sheldon Court, the performing arts center, and Cascadilla Hall, and it doesn't have the right oby David Harding - Other Sports

Re: Recruits 2006: The New Thread - 18 years ago
Schafer has consistently said that he is interested in coaching at the highest (pro) level. When is hard to predict, but a cautious administration would ponder a succession plan. The typical contract commits the school to paying the coach for the term of the contract. It doesn't commit the coach to sticking with the school for that term.by David Harding - Hockey

Cornell wrestling - 18 years ago
I was a bit annoyed by the slight to Cornell wrestling at the very end of the story comparing Cornell to Iowa. I'm not denigrating the Iowa program in the least, but I think Cornell's deserves a little more respect.by David Harding - Other Sports
Re: St. Lawrence at Cornell postgame thread (1/20/06) - 18 years ago
jtwcornell91Rich SClosing your hand on the puck is different than a hand pass. The first calls for a penalty whereas the second is a violation that calls for a face-off if the offending team touches the puck next. Actually, there are three different things: [*] batting or deflecting the puck with your (open) hand, which is a hand pass if a teammate touches it next. Re: 2006-7 Schedule - 18 years ago
My memories of Cornell hockey actually go back earlier than my class suggests. As a townie, I attended occasional games from about the second season in Lynah and listened to Sam Woodside and Don Martin broadcast the games on WHCU-FM.by David Harding - Hockey
Re: 2006-7 Schedule - 18 years ago
RobbDavid HardingSome of us have memories that go back more than 20 years to before "the Great Divorce." The WAS a time when we scheduled them every year and met them in the post season once, or even twice, in many of those years, but they weren't non-conference games then. Yes, but that's irrelevant to the discussion about the non-conference teams that we're able to schedule in today'by David Harding - Hockey
Re: 2006-7 Schedule - 18 years ago
Robbheykb There was a time where we scheduled BU every other year or so. We should be playing top tier non-conference opponents. BU/BC/UNH in the east, Mich/Minn/CC/UND in the west. Um, no there wasn't. We've only played BU 8 times since the Great Divorce, 4 @ Lynah, 1 neutral site at the Syracuse Invitational, and 3 @ BU. 2 of those games were in 1989, 2 in 2002, and 2 in 2003. [OT] What is The Most Competitive Sport (GEEK ALERT) - 18 years ago
Warning! Geek alert!! Some physicists from Los Alamos and Boston University ask "What is the Most Competive Sport?' and try to answer by using records of every NFL, NHL, NBA, MLB, and FA game evry played. They define "competitive" as meaning the frequency of upsets - games where the team that is currently lower in the standings wins. Their answer, from most to least, is socceby David Harding - Hockey

Bâby had the assist on his team's only goal of the night Friday Right wing Billy Tibbetts answered for the Wolves (9-10-1-3), 1-1, with an early second-period power-play goal. Chicago native Stephen Bâby pushed a shot toward the crease that bounced off a Stars defender and fluttered into the air before Tibbetts whacked the puck past goaltender Dan Ellis at 4:55 of the second frame.by David Harding - Hockey

Re: OT -- Fans on the field - 18 years ago
There was a time when fans "knew" they were at risk sitting behind the goal at a hockey game. A couple fatalities later, including sadly one at Cornell, the presence of nets indicates the laws of responsibility have changed.
