Traylen pulled. Kyle McNulty in at 15:18 second period. Like it's Traylen's fault for giving Corell all those breakaways.by billhoward - Hockey

Re: Shabby Lynah rink conditions - 19 years ago
Adam, you could be right: Cornell skates by so fast, maybe there's a Bernoulli effect or something that kufts Traylen back and then up and into the goal. Here I was thinking it was just a delay of game that wasn't being picked up by the refs.by billhoward - Hockey
Shabby Lynah rink conditions - 19 years ago
What's wrong with the rink staff? The net keeps popping off its moorings. Odd, though, it only seems to come off at the end Clarkson is defending.by billhoward - Hockey
Re: A great bear from the past [back for Clarkson playoffs] - 19 years ago
A skating bear in a red jersey just showed up on the Webcast. Assuming that's not a pixellation problem at XMI's end and really is the BRB, that's great. When was the BRB's previous appearance at Lynah?by billhoward - Hockey

Re: Sign ideas - 19 years ago
Awesome idea! Especially with CSTV stil rather new, they should be chomping at the bit for something to show that fans/viewers are aware of and into them.Indeed. The networks have been told to back off on the sporting events honey shots, or at least not zoom in so close, so this is a popular alternative. But please think of something more articulate than Cornell Spots Totally Victorious. Jenby billhoward - Hockey
Re: What TV service do do i get? - 19 years ago
Good advice. Tivo within the satellite box improves quality because with an external Tivo box you have to decompress the MPEG2 signal when it leaves the satellite tuner and then a nanosecond later it gets re-encoded as MPEG-2 on the Tivo box. If you have inclination toward HDTV in the near future, pay for Tivo monthly not the lifetime subscription. You'll probably be seduced by the quality ofby billhoward - Hockey
Re: Sign ideas - 19 years ago
TV networks are suckers for signs with their initials no matter how stupid (see below for choice example) and, lucky us, we have the same initial as one of the networks C ornell S katers T otally V ictorius God knows what you can do for X M I sports. The M will probably be for McKee. Just write big so you overcome the pixellation.by billhoward - Hockey
Re: Advice Needed - 19 years ago
For someone now living in the New York City area, the fact that Lynah tickets were offered at list price outside the rink raised more suspicions than if the kids were selling them at say $5 over face value. The only scam imaginable is that some of the town teens may get comp tickets for standing room, meaning if they sell free tickets for, what, $9, they make $9 profit.by billhoward - Hockey
Re: What TV service do do i get? - 19 years ago
Satellite TV gets you more regional sports networks than cable. This patchwork quilt gives you a fighting chance of seeing league (not postseason) Minnesota or BU hockey, or Oklahoma State wrestling, stuff you probably won't see so often otherwise. Both satellite (definitely) and premium cable should (should) have CSTV. For sports, you'll probably find DirecTV better than DISH. You can browseby billhoward - Hockey
Re: [OT] Good luck, Clarkson (vs. Union) - 19 years ago
More talent than Kevin Pettit '71? Pettit played on the unbeaten 1970 team and was first team All-America in 1971. He was talented with both ends of the stick and still holds the single-season record with 111 penalty minutes.by billhoward - Hockey
Re: Advice Needed - 19 years ago
If you go an hour before the game, you should find tickets from students or townspeople with a couple extras to unload. Often they go for near face value, particularly standing room. The key is getting there early.by billhoward - Hockey

Beeeej, to perhaps clarify your thought: Journalists promise they'll meet deadlines. On dailies and now online, sometimes the scribe turns over hastily written material to meet the deadline. On non-weekly magazines, the editor often builds in a cushion knowing the deadline won't always get met. USCHO ECAC 1st round picks: Dartmouth, RPI, SLU, Clarkson - 19 years ago
Only Dartmouth picked for a sweep, and one mild-upset prediction, the same one many of us believe will happen, Clarkson over Union. If so, the How to Be a Good Fan thread should hit 4,000 hits easily. From Juan Martinez' weekly column: No. 12 Yale at No. 5 Dartmouth Dartmouth 2-0 No. 11 Rensselaer at No. 6 Brown RPI 2-1 No. 10 Princeton at No. 7 St. Lawrence SLU 2-1 No. 9 Clarksoby billhoward - Hockey

[OT] Good luck, Clarkson (vs. Union) - 19 years ago
The Clarkson fans who braved hostile elements to show up here and wave their banner deserve some appreciation for being entertaining and at times illuminating. So good luck to Clarkson against Union and let's hope we see the Golden Knights in Ithaca a week from now to continue the rivalry. At which point all bets are off again.by billhoward - Hockey
Re: This Week's Column Up - 19 years ago
IMO, nothing wrong with "This Week's Column Up." As others have noted, we're getting bored having little to do this weekend other than a) rag on Clarkson fans (who are to verbal abuse as sponges are to water) and b) hope Clarkson comes through over Union so we get another crack at them. At least in Ithaca you have the lacrosse game vs Notre Dame to watch. (Radio, no WebTV. Sheesh.)by billhoward - Hockey
Re: How To Be a Good Fan (Why RS titles matter (to Clarkson)) (oops) - 19 years ago
My bad. I thought I took that extra championship line out before it was posted. Apologies for counting chickens not yet hatched. But still: After browsing the ECAC record book, you can see why Clarkson fans are so big on RS titles as a mark of accomplishment: they have lots of them and not so many tournament titles. That's a lot of heartbreak. That and going 0-for-3 in NCAA title games. Not thatby billhoward - Hockey

Re: ECAC Pep Bands - 19 years ago
Stupid question and I asked this once before: If the hockey pep band also is the group that showed up for the Cornell @ Princeton lax game last year, the Cornell OT victory, you were outstanding there, too, especially in light of the absence of the Princeton Tiger dismounted, not marching band. Way to go. Actually, I think the band is plenty loud enough at Lynah, but that's just aging ears. Lby billhoward - Hockey
