Re: What TV service do do i get? - 19 years ago
Satellite TV gets you more regional sports networks than cable. This patchwork quilt gives you a fighting chance of seeing league (not postseason) Minnesota or BU hockey, or Oklahoma State wrestling, stuff you probably won't see so often otherwise. Both satellite (definitely) and premium cable should (should) have CSTV. For sports, you'll probably find DirecTV better than DISH. You can browseby billhoward - Hockey

More talent than Kevin Pettit '71? Pettit played on the unbeaten 1970 team and was first team All-America in 1971. He was talented with both ends of the stick and still holds the single-season record with 111 penalty minutes.by billhoward - Hockey

Beeeej, to perhaps clarify your thought: Journalists promise they'll meet deadlines. On dailies and now online, sometimes the scribe turns over hastily written material to meet the deadline. On non-weekly magazines, the editor often builds in a cushion knowing the deadline won't always get met. USCHO ECAC 1st round picks: Dartmouth, RPI, SLU, Clarkson - 19 years ago
Only Dartmouth picked for a sweep, and one mild-upset prediction, the same one many of us believe will happen, Clarkson over Union. If so, the How to Be a Good Fan thread should hit 4,000 hits easily. From Juan Martinez' weekly column: No. 12 Yale at No. 5 Dartmouth Dartmouth 2-0 No. 11 Rensselaer at No. 6 Brown RPI 2-1 No. 10 Princeton at No. 7 St. Lawrence SLU 2-1 No. 9 Clarksoby billhoward - Hockey

[OT] Good luck, Clarkson (vs. Union) - 19 years ago
The Clarkson fans who braved hostile elements to show up here and wave their banner deserve some appreciation for being entertaining and at times illuminating. So good luck to Clarkson against Union and let's hope we see the Golden Knights in Ithaca a week from now to continue the rivalry. At which point all bets are off again.by billhoward - Hockey
Re: This Week's Column Up - 19 years ago
IMO, nothing wrong with "This Week's Column Up." As others have noted, we're getting bored having little to do this weekend other than a) rag on Clarkson fans (who are to verbal abuse as sponges are to water) and b) hope Clarkson comes through over Union so we get another crack at them. At least in Ithaca you have the lacrosse game vs Notre Dame to watch. (Radio, no WebTV. Sheesh.)by billhoward - Hockey

My bad. I thought I took that extra championship line out before it was posted. Apologies for counting chickens not yet hatched. But still: After browsing the ECAC record book, you can see why Clarkson fans are so big on RS titles as a mark of accomplishment: they have lots of them and not so many tournament titles. Stupid question and I asked this once before: If the hockey pep band also is the group that showed up for the Cornell @ Princeton lax game last year, the Cornell OT victory, you were outstanding there, too, especially in light of the absence of the Princeton Tiger dismounted, not marching band. Trotsky raises two good points (the second, Harvard sucks, being an axiom), that the world needs more people clamoring for student-athletes. Wow, great report. Maybe we need an eSchoellkopf (?) forum? Nah, doesn't have quite the same ring. It sounds as if the pre-season predictions of Cornell around #10 in the nation are not out of line.
