Re: Big Red using bye week to get healthy - 17 years ago
“It is the same thing over the course of the year (that haunted Cornell last weekend),” Schafer said. “It is a little bit frustrating. At the same time, there are some things we can put our finger on, as far as going into the playoffs, that we obviously need to shore up. We have one power-play unit going, and we obviously need to get the other going.by David Harding - Hockey

Out of control parents - 17 years ago
I couldn't quickly find any old threads on out of control sports parents to add this to, so I'm offering a new one. In suburban Chicago this week, at a youth wrestling tournament, an 11 year old was getting to close to pinning his opponent when the oppenent's father dashed from the stands, grabbed the wrestler, and tossed him through the air. He then headed toward the wrestler's father whoby David Harding - John Spencer Is Dead

Re: Song of the Classes - 17 years ago
RobbThere have been many, many other ad hoc verses for various Cornell groups over the years (I know I've heard "We are the co-eds..." but I don't remember it). Here's a Glee Club recording of "The Song of the Classes." It's a live performance and the mix - solos vs choruses - is such that you need to keep your finger (or cursor) on the volume control. Re: Eligibilty rules - 17 years ago
The rules change from time to time. There have been a couple of Cornellians who competed as graduate students. I remember Joe Holland '78 sitting out a year when he transferred to Cornell, then staying on for another year of football as a masters student. Shortly after Holland's success, the Ivies passed a rule explictly prohibited graduate students from competing even if they had eligibilityby David Harding - Other Sports

Speaking of Chicago, I missed the fading of Stephen Bâby. He is still listed on the roster, but has only played 7 of 23 games. One goal, 2 assists, 16 penalty minutes. They show 6 centers, 7 right wings, and 3 left wings.by David Harding - Hockey

The Big Red definitely had home court advantage during the match with its largest crowd of the season who helped keep Cornell's spirits soaring high throughout the three games. 30-24, 30-26, 32-30, the last coming back from trailing 26-29.by David Harding - Other Sports

The Sharks version ...On defense Doug Murray made his season debut as Josh Gorges was given the night off. ... Minutes after the Sharks made it a 2-0 lead, Patrick Rissmiller looked to make the smart defensive play and chip the puck out of the Sharks zone. Jacob 03 I could swear that there was a convention (which I don't follow) of using an apostrophy to pluralize letters, as in "Mind your p's and q's." Using an apostrophe in the plural of the letter A prevents it from being mistaken for the capitalized form of the word "as". this convention did exist, and still prevails. if it has waned in recent years, it is probably dueby David Harding - Hockey
