Re: Polls - Jan 19 - 20 years ago
And I met some over 50 Gopher fans who were among the nicest people at the tournament. It really opened my eyes. I had a negative feeling toward Minnesota that began when their coach Woog(sp?) was bellyaching after every other loss. He left and the program blossomed, eh?by marty - Hockey

Ditto, and as before if I am sent a copy I will make a few for others if the sender hasn't the time or equipment.by marty - Hockey

Re: Reflections on the weekend; thinking about the future - 20 years ago
I agree with both of these posts. I saw the game on Saturday and there was a lot to like in the Big Red. I hope that they use this as a learning experience and I hope that the shoulder injuries of which the Coach was quoted on USCHO are not serious.by marty - Hockey

I agree, it sounds exactly like what Cornell fans do. And I was stuck in O because I bought my tickets in Troy. They were yelling back and forth at our fans and I enjoyed the give and take. This is the best RIP team since the Fby marty - Hockey

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - For Union College president Roger Hull, it was a matter of conscience over collegiality. So I would want to send HULL to HELL, too.by marty - Hockey

So if anyone's scoring at home, he's now turned his back on the Red Sox, the Blue Jays, and the Yankees in his career. I couldn't hate him any more if he'd played his undergrad ball at Harvard. The D-III sports article that Dr Pavlov posted was in Friday's paper.by marty - Hockey
Re: RIP/Onion come to town...anyone gonna be around? - 20 years ago
I bought visitor tickets from the RIP box office for the Saturday game. I hope to sit in seats other than the ones I purchased, but I would rather that the rink is full and I have to stand. See you there.by marty - Hockey
Re: WSJ and Sports - 20 years ago
Right you are. In fact that bit of editorializing illustrates a trait that is all too common in the WSJ. It allows too much opinion in many of the otherwise superbly written articles.by marty - Hockey
WSJ and Sports - 20 years ago
Most of us don't get our sports news from that Wall Street Journal, but during the past ten days or so there were two articles that the folks who hang out here might find interesting. The most important to us concerned the D-III scholarship issue. It was written with the Johns Hopkins lacrosse team as the main subject. Johns Hopkins is D-III and will have to stop giving scholarships if the NCAby marty - Hockey
Re: Harvard fans? - 20 years ago
Maybe the students who potentially sit in the empty seats were enjoying "unhappy" hour at the bahs in town.by marty - Hockey

I forwarded the link to a Colgate grad who tracked this down for www.gradeinflation.org: just checked whois. Re: Cornell Voted #2 - 20 years ago
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!! RIP (Houston Field House AKA The Morgue - TM) is voted #12 because the fans as so quiet that the opposing teams find themselves drifting off to la la land rather than playing the game?by marty - Hockey

Re: Harvard at RPI - 20 years ago
The two handed cow bell was hilarious ! The pep band was the smallest I can ever remember. As I have posted on the forum earlier in the year, this is a different RIP team. I think they look better than anytime since the Fridge took over the coaching reins (94-95?). The style is so much more disciplined that my conclusion is the improvement is due to assistant coach Andrew Will (a Union grad)by marty - Hockey

Re: Game Thread: Cornell 4, OSU 3 (OT) FINAL - 20 years ago
Do you mean that the surprise was that TIVO found and recorded the game because you had previously set it to record all Cornell hockey or that the surprise was to see yourself in HD? I am TIVO-less and don't understand all the options that can be set for recording. Post Edited (12-28-03 22:04)by marty - Hockey
Re: OT drift on the Wall Street Journal - 20 years ago
Screw BU, Wall Street Journal, too! That said, the Wall Street Journal is my favorite daily. They had a great article today about the Asian entrepreneurs acquiring American and Japanese brands. It's on the order of Vicor Kiam and the Remington razor. "I liked the Nakamichi products so much I bought the company." (And now all the gear is made in China.)by marty - Hockey
