From this week's USCHO ECACHL column (I love how SHagwell went all Starr Jones):

[Q]With Yale's 4-3 win over Connecticut on Sunday afternoon, the ECACHL once again claimed the Commissioners' Cup. The league finished with a record of 7-4-0 in contests designated for the Commissioners' Cup Series and finished but one point ahead of the CCHA.

...snip...

"What it means is that teams from our league did well in games that we designated as part of the Commissioners' Cup," said ECACHL commissioner Steve Hagwell.[/Q]

Back to back!!!!  Wooo!!!  Yeah!  *yawn*    ::snore::

FINAL 2005-2006 COMMISSIONERS' CUP STANDINGS
1. ECAC Hockey League -- 11 GP, 7-4-0, 14 pts.
2. CCHA -- 11 GP, 6-4-1, 13 pts.
3. College Hockey America -- 11 GP, 5-5-1, 11 pts.
4. Atlantic Hockey -- 11 GP, 5-6-0, 10 pts.
5. WCHA -- 11 GP, 5-6-0, 10 pts.

Am I alone in thinking this is the dumbest award ever?

French Rage

No, it is.  And I love his quote, it's not even excited, just a factual synopsis.
03/23/02: Maine 4, Harvard 3
03/28/03: BU 6, Harvard 4
03/26/04: Maine 5, Harvard 4
03/26/05: UNH 3, Harvard 2

Well, there is a certain bedpan named after a coach of a team that sucks...  :-)

Oh, and another SHagwell quote:
[q]"Every team takes great pride in representing the league, I think," Hagwell added. "Every team wants to win any non-league games that they play; they don't need any added incentive."[/q]

Trotsky

That really is a great deadpan quote.  Does the league office get a banner to fly in Centreville?

Kinda John Madden-esque too...

< Madden Impression > See, the ECAC won the Commissioners Cup, and what that means is, that they did the best of all the conferences in games that count for the Commissioners Cup < / Impression >
They fly a banner in Centreville, but such an important trophy has to remain at the league offices in Albany. ;-)

At the ECACs, Hagwell will skate it around the Pepsi Center, and the league staff will drink tepid Champale from it.
Am I alone in thinking this is the dumbest award ever?
It certainly won't be once somebody wins the World Baseball Classic.

Hate to umbrella on everyones parade but I happen to be damn proud of our conference. Way to go men!

So it isn't the NCAA championship. But it does add a little bit of spice to the regular season. It's kind of like those impromptu sprints for prizes that they have right in the middle of a long bicycle race (I never could figure those out).

I now return you to your regularly scheduled cynicism.
But it does add a little bit of spice to the regular season.
Or, it would be if anyone knew it was going on.
