Re: Ottawa Postgame - 16 years ago
I haven't seen any games this season, but it seems from hearing Ari's analysis, that the team's success will depend significantly on Sawada. Sawada is a big, powerful guy. In my opinion, he should be (and should've been for the last two years) in front of the net literally every time the puck is in the offensive zone (a la Ryan Smyth). It would really open up tremendous space, and Greening/Nash sby Cactus12 - Hockey

Just heard a commercial for the game while listening to the Rangers on the radio...by Cactus12 - Hockey
Re: Romano will not be back next year - 16 years ago
Agreed. Malik's pretty solid on the kill too. Now Aaron Ward was a different story- I think he actually scored (deflections) 5 or 6 times on Lundqvist before being dealt to Boston.by Cactus12 - Hockey

Anyone else think it is a reasonable idea not to respond to these posts and let them fade into non-bumped eLynah obscurity? (yes, i know this response is therefore hypocritical)by Cactus12 - Hockey
Re: NHL Concussion Rules - 17 years ago
Following up my own question (if anyone's interested) "The league has no rules about how long to keep players out of action, but teams have adopted guidelines that include players’ being symptom free for five days before they are allowed to return to the ice. Teams are required to conduct neurological tests on all their players before the season to provide baseline scores to measure playeby Cactus12 - Other Sports
Re: Quinnipiac @ Cornell, Game 2 Postgame - 17 years ago
I agree, from section A, you could see the Q player going down already. The fact that he had a sliding crash into the boards made it seem much worse than it actually was.by Cactus12 - Hockey
Re: A Comparison - 17 years ago
This is a good interpretation... and it's why many people on this forum find much greater comfort in Davenport starting (myself included).by Cactus12 - Hockey
Re: Freshman (Tony Romano) - 17 years ago
Agreed... I don't see any reason why major juniors would be an option he's considering. This thread seems to have become quite speculative with little basis for anything.by Cactus12 - Hockey
Re: Flopping - 17 years ago
You're not more observant (I'll take my chances being rude)... As RichH said, there is no more enthusiasm for either of the two goalies.by Cactus12 - Hockey
Re: Alumni in the Pros - February 2007 - 17 years ago
It wouldn't be surprising, especially since LA seems intent on trading away everyone on the ice this season for prospects. (Norstrom and Pushkarev are now Stars)by Cactus12 - Hockey
Re: NHL Concussion Rules - 17 years ago
come on... someone knows this!?!?by Cactus12 - Other Sports
Re: Should Cornell Build a New Arena? - 17 years ago
CornellFanCornell basketball has the very real potential of becoming Cornell's biggest revenue sport. Our administration has yet to grasp that concept. Only if the bball players also happen to be excellent hedge fund managers... Cornell bball does not contend for a national title and neither recruits nor produces NBA quality players. This is not changing anytime soon.by Cactus12 - Other Sports
NHL Concussion Rules - 17 years ago
Does anyone know if the NHL or NHLPA has a rule regarding return from a concussion (minimum time, physical exam, etc.)? I know a team will not rush back players, but was wondering if there's an official policy. (I think someone mentioned such a rule following Carefoot's injury)by Cactus12 - Other Sports
Re: Albany ECAC ticket questions - 17 years ago
Last year I wasn't sure if I was going to make it, so I ended up driving to Albany and buying at the door that day (worked out fine). I asked for tickets in the Cornell "section" ( more of a "side/end", but you could pretty much sit wherever you want anyway. There is no way that place is coming close to a sell out.by Cactus12 - Hockey
Re: Clarkson at Cornell postgame - 17 years ago
Not sure what you're talking about... obviously when you're up 4 goals, you're going to take a defensive stance. As for quality of play, both the offense and defense showed up ... period. You can criticize special teams if you wish, but the bottom line is that we scored goals, played good defense, and had solid play between the pipes. That's a winning formula- regardless of any short-handed opporby Cactus12 - Hockey
Re: Clarkson at Cornell postgame - 17 years ago
Agreed. There was also a point in the second period where Sawada was parked very effectively in front of the net . Bitz (I think) chose not to take the shot, but had he gotten one on net, there's no way Leggio would've see it. Generally good play around the net.by Cactus12 - Hockey
Re: Clarkson at Cornell postgame - 17 years ago
Also, there was a hook about 10 seconds prior to, and eventually resulting in the "holding the stick" call against Krantz.by Cactus12 - Hockey
Re: Clarkson at Cornell postgame - 17 years ago
Great, well-deserved win... Excellent physical play around the puck. Solid passing and solid goaltending. Nice exploitation of the Clarkson defense (or lack thereof esp. down low). Good finishing (finally) and there were multiple odd-man rushes where they could've tacked on even a few more! Also, almost every time there was a loose puck in front of Scrivens, there were at least three, white jeby Cactus12 - Hockey

Will anyone notice if we disguise Jagr and put him on the ice in red?by Cactus12 - Hockey
Re: Senior letdown - 17 years ago
OmieI'm sorry guys but Davenport is no Mckee. I don't think that argument can be made yet- it's important to remember the type of defense McKee played behind (esp. in 04-05)...obvious but yet to be mentioned on this thread. This year's team basically has one experienced though not dominating upperclassman defensemen in Krantz and one impressive younger player in Seminoff. Compare that to Cook,by Cactus12 - Hockey
Re: Post Game! - 17 years ago
Agreed- if there's a real check from behind on the play... no one who knows how to skate much less play hockey goes down from that "hit"by Cactus12 - Hockey
Re: Post Game! - 17 years ago
Bogdanich still had the puck... My opinion- great acting (the "burying" contact was very, very minimal at most), but if the ref. feels so compelled to use his whistle- boarding(2min) is the better call. All said and done, the resultant penalty kill is probably good for team momentum going into next weekend.by Cactus12 - Hockey
Re: Post Game! - 17 years ago
Agreed. I watched the game again on tws26 today. There was barely contact. Great acting though... I especially liked the part where he came out for his next shift 30 seconds later.by Cactus12 - Hockey
Re: Post Game! - 17 years ago
I also thought that Krantz was having a great game up until the major/misconduct. I come to expect it from Sawada (really solid/smart every game)and when Carefoot is on, it reminds me of the dominant past Cornell teams. Seminoff played great as well, but I disagree about Nash. I don't think he played very well at all (to put it lightly)- mishandling the puck, inability to stay with the Colgateby Cactus12 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 6 Union 0 postgame (12/2/06) - 17 years ago
I always like to remind opposing players that they're not living up to their own team's legacy. For example... telling Mrazek that he's a disgrace and that Union never got blown away like this when Mayotte was around.by Cactus12 - Hockey

Re: Cornell 6 Union 0 postgame (12/2/06) - 17 years ago
I agree... When you're up 4-0 or 5-0 early in the third and really dominating the game, the crowd is going to be relatively quiet. I thought the faithful(at least from my perspective in section A) were OK for the most part, all things considered. As for game analysis... I thought Union was pretty terrible (esp. their goaltending- definitely missing Mayotte in a big way). Additionally, we werby Cactus12 - Hockey
Re: Harvard 2 @ Cornell 3 postgame thread (11/10/06) - 17 years ago
Yeah I could buy that. In real time though, it looked pretty bad (with Bitz being on the ground and the timing of him lifting the stick/ the other guy falling), so I'm not at all suprised that the call was made.by Cactus12 - Hockey
