Re: Coaching endowments - 3 years ago
Beeeej Weder I noticed that at some point since the end of last season Doug Derraugh became the Everett Family Head Coach of Women's Hockey. Are those endowments supposed to cover a portion or all of the coach's salary, or does it vary from endowment to endowment? Mike Schafer's position has been endowed for some time now, I believe. It tends to vary from endowment to endowment, but the generalby Weder - Hockey

marty ursusminor Trotsky redice The count is now up to 10 players from the team, that we last watched, will not be returning. That is devastating.Gotta assume the Principled Eight are all in the same boat. You know, if Mike was ever going to consider a clean break... I know, I know, I'm shutting up. Interesting, because there was a report earlier (can't find it again right now) that Cornell and Columbia, along with the rest of the DI schools in New York, are asking the state to loosen travel restrictions so they can play winter sports.by Weder - Hockey
Re: We'll never know.how the faithful would have greeted this UND frosh POS - 3 years ago
abmarks billhoward Paying your debt may get back your right to vote. But as for hiring the guy: I'd want to know if being a felon now out of jail, is that a protected class? Because if it's not, an employer might want to keep looking for the right candidate. Something you wish was added, against his will, to a Tinder profile, too. not protected. Re: Season's Over - 3 years ago
Trotsky RichH Trotsky RichHThere was a time when the back of the Olympia machine had the first names of the rink staff painted on it, so after it passed by, the chant was reading it: "GENE, PHIL, DAVE, ART!" When? I totally missed this. I don't know. Probably in the 1900s.I have that decade covered. This chant was late 90sby Weder - Hockey

Al DeFlorio The Rancor JasonN95 ESPN article about lost opportunity for double national championships for Cornell: red helmets at home? IIRC, red helmesa in NCAA regional final last year. Bad omen. The photo is not Lynah so I think you’re right. (Though wasn’t there a short stretch in a recent season when they did wear red helmets at home?)by Weder - Hockey
Re: Season's Over - 4 years ago
Jeff Hopkins '82 Here's a thought about players jumping early to the pros: One of the drivers was to get a pro contract for the remaining part of the current season. With the NHL and AHL on "hiatus" and not even knowing of there will be a remaining season, how likely will they be to sign players right now? So I expect we're probably not going to hear a lot about player signings forby Weder - Hockey
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2020 - 4 years ago
So that would mean the NCAA would allow a sixth year of eligibility and Ivies would potentially go to a fifth for affected athletes, right?by Weder - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2020 - 4 years ago
Swampy semsox Additionally, even if individual teams travel together, if you're using shared workout equipment, even a single case on one of the teams could put all other users at risk. It sucks, but it's the inevitable outcome. Now we just need to pray that the league is at least willing to throw the seniors a bone, and grant a blanket year of eligibility or something. Is it the Ivy League orby Weder - Other Sports

Re: Cornell Women Hockey - 4 years ago
If I remember right, Big Ten Network got the rights to the Frozen Four simply because it was interested in carrying the event and the NCAA really wanted a TV broadcast. Previously, the games were only available at the NCAA site. (And good for BTN, which does promote its member schools even in sports it does not sponsor, like women's hockey.) I seem to also remember that ESPN has first right ofby Weder - Hockey
Re: Cornell Women Hockey - 4 years ago
According to this PWR predictor, the only way Cornell does not finish at No. 1 in the Pairwise is if it loses to Princeton and Wisconsin wins the WCHA and UConn wins Hockey East and Robert Morris wins the CHA. But let's just beat Princeton and not worry about any other result. EDIT: I didn't realize the CHA final was today and that Mercyhurst had won. So then Cornell will be No. 1 in the PWR rby Weder - Hockey

The 18 Olympians thing is misleading at best, though, right? The only explanation that I can come up with is that they are counting players who have been on more than one Olympic team multiple times.by Weder - Hockey
Hockeypalooza 2021 - 4 years ago
I've received several save-the-date emails about this in the past couple of days. They are planning a celebration of both teams the weekend of Feb. 5-6, 2021. According to one of the emails, there are two women's games and one men's game scheduled that weekend. As we enter the 2020’s, we will recognize 120 years of men’s hockey and 50 years of women’s hockey at Cornell. These are milestones woby Weder - Hockey

The women’s lacrosse team uses the old men’s hockey locker room, I believe. Not sure who (if anyone) uses the old women’s hockey locker room. Are there more than 2 locker rooms in the expansion? That would make it awkward since the stairs go directly to the home bench.by Weder - Hockey
Re: Cornell Women Hockey - 4 years ago
Jeff Hopkins '82 CU2007 How do they manage 3 visiting teams given the locker room shortage? According to this, Lynah has 6 locker rooms. I think that includes the ones for officials and the women’s lacrosse team, so that leaves 2 at most for visiting hockey teams.by Weder - Hockey
Re: Cornell Women Hockey - 4 years ago
In today's Game 3s, Harvard beat Yale in 3OT and Princeton beat Quinnipiac in 2OT, so the semifinal matchups Saturday at Lynah are: (1) Cornell vs. (4) Harvard and (2) Princeton vs. (3) Clarkson.by Weder - Hockey
