Re: Interesting news about Harvard admissions - 2 years ago
I know people who who were legacies and children of faculty members (sometimes both) who did not get admitted. In those cases, Cornell often offers the guaranteed transfer option -- go somewhere else for a year and if you meet whatever the GPA threshold is we'll let you in as a sophomore. Do many other elite schools do that?by Weder - Other Sports

jtwcornell91 Weder The NCAA tournament will expand to 11 teams (yes, 11) either this season or next season. I really wonder what they were thinking going with 11 and not 12. 11 apparently gives them the same fraction as the men of teams in the tournament (27%), but was there some sort of regulation that said they couldn't go over by one? A USCHO columnist characterized it as maliciousby Weder - Hockey

upprdeck very confused by the stats. rego says 2/1 but total says 2. andreev says 4/2 but total says 5, zach says 1/1 but total says 1. stienburg says 1/3 but total says 5? overall cornell says 11 goals 17 assists for 30 pts? RPI says 3 goals 6 assists 26 pts? Total refers to shots on goal, not points. I’m not sure why the NCAA boxes do that, but it’s been that way for as long as I can remby Weder - Hockey

upprdeck I wonder if any of our so/Jrs took a semester off so they could play an extra yr or if they all stayed on schedule? I feel like I’ve heard that there were at least a few players on both the men’s and women’s teams who took time off. Maybe it was on one of the Zoom events over the summer?by Weder - Hockey

ugarte Highlight of the broadcast was Grady bringing up the We Want Weder series against Colgate when we scored 10 in game 1 and Tim saying "yeah i played in that one." I feel obligated to point out that the Weder series was in 1996 and the 10-goal game was five years earlier.by Weder - Hockey

I'm in Ithaca this week and it seems like the games could have been played, but Syracuse and Colgate opted not to travel down because of the situation (probably the right call). Just guessing on Colgate, but the email sent to folks who had tickets to the hockey game said Syracuse decided not to make the trip. Re: State of Cornell Athletics - 2 years ago
I’m curious whether Cornell’s test-optional policy (in place through the Fall 2024 admissions cycle) will significantly change the recruited athlete profile. For the Cornell Class of 2025, 60% of enrolling students submitted an SAT or ACT score.by Weder - Other Sports
Re: State of Cornell Athletics - 2 years ago
With the hockey teams, at least, don't the rosters look fairly close to what they would have been this year anyway? I'm not aware of any recruiting losses. Obviously, not playing last season has consequences in terms of player development. (And according to Neutral Zone, the Cornell women have next year's No. 1 recruiting class in the country.)by Weder - Other Sports

Dafatone What does it count as for RPI? The pairwise is practically just RPI with the occasional wrinkle. Looks like a tie to me, or maybe the same 55% stuff. It's 55% of a win. (And shootout wins will be 50% of a win.)by Weder - Hockey

marty jtwcornell91 RichH David Harding jtwcornell91 Scersk '97 Ken711 Doesn't look like Princeton will be so gracious and give the win back to Harvard. Harvard's 2-point conversion came in the "bottom of the inning" too, so Princeton's possible concession would be most rational. David Harding jtwcornell91 Not exactly a bar, but I just saw on Google today that the Hillside Inn has closed. When did that happen? And what's there now? Here's an article from 2019. The story says that the gutted and rebuilt hotel was going to open in March 2020. That doesn't sound auspicious, but they have a live web site. 5 stars on TripAdvisor, though small sample size.by Weder - John Spencer Is Dead

billhoward Cripe, now there'll be a line on the athlete's aid package -- sorry, student-athlete -- Cornell will want to treat it as Scholarship, Outside, and do a dollar-for-dollar reduction in grant money. Could you see that happening? It’s not just Cornell’s financial aid — the students have to report it as regular income, so it would show up on their FAFSA as well and potentially reduce fedeby Weder - Hockey

Football tickets are on sale, and there's no mention of any covid restrictions -- I assume because it is outdoors and the average home football crowd is already sufficiently socially distanced. (Also, apparently the top football ticket has a $50 face value? Lol.)by Weder - Hockey
