Re: Cornellians in 2022 Winter Olympics - 2 years ago
Brianne Jenner had her second hat trick of the Olympics in Canada's 11-0 win over Sweden, and Jillian Saulnier got her first Olympic point. A couple of assists for Micah Zandee-Hart and one for Rebecca Johnston. Jenner's 8 goals overall are tied for the most in the tournament.by Weder - Other Sports

Does the money for endowed positions (and anything else, I guess) live in its own silo or does it just get dumped into the university endowment and then get a proportional share of the gains and losses?by Weder - Hockey

Cornell went 13-0 this weekend, including wins over No. 2 Notre Dame and several other ranked teams, and is 32-0 heading into the Ivy championships. Cornell is ranked No. 4, but Princeton is No. 1 and Columbia is No. 3.by Weder - Other Sports
Re: Women's hockey 2022 - 2 years ago
Cornell has 5 RS ECAC games left and an outside shot at home ice in the playoffs, though the 3 key games against Colgate, Clarkson and St. Lawrence are all on the road. Home games against RPI and Union this coming weekend, plus a game against Penn State on Tuesday. The game against Syracuse from the fall was still listed as postponed the last time I looked, but at this point I’m not sure when theby Weder - Hockey

billhoward We play that rarest of games, midweek Tuesday and on February 1. I woke up thinking we'd be back in Providence playing it again, still Feb. 1. So, it could be worse. You know Groundhog Day is Feb. 2, right?by Weder - Hockey

Five players from next season's incoming class were selected to the U.S. and Canadian U18 teams for the 2022 Worlds, which didn't take place: Team USA: Grace Dwyer (D) Team Canada: Avi Adam (F), McKenna Van Gelder (F), Alyssa Regaldo (D) and Sarah MacEachern (D). Piper Grober (D), who is a 2023 commit, also was selected.by Weder - Hockey

billhoward Video also shows an almost deserted Pizzitola Sports Center at Brown. Box scores says A--225. Cornell’s average home attendance this year is 548 so we’re not exactly in a position to comment.by Weder - Other Sports
Re: Second ND Game Thread - 2 years ago
djk26 Trotsky Key to the whole thing was Shane's stop on the penalty shot. I knew there was a penalty shot in a game this year--so this is as good a place as any to post the question--certainly not worth a new thread. What happens if a skater is taken down by the opposition while skating to an empty net with the puck? (Of course if you've got the puck and a empty net just shoot it from ceby Weder - Hockey

IIRC, a lot of big football schools added women’s rowing in the late 1990s and early 2000s in part because it was a way to even out participation. Some of those schools have since added men’s rowing as well.by Weder - Other Sports
Re: Women's hockey 2022 - 2 years ago
Very nice 4-0 win over Clarkson tonight. Nine points for the top line of Frechette, Daniel and Delianedis, and all 3 had a goal. Cornell was outshot 35-19 but Browning had a great game in goal and the Red put away their chances. Cornell now tied for 7th with Princeton and will play the Tigers on Friday.by Weder - Hockey

nshapiro redice abmarks BearLover scoop85 I feel for Michael Regush. He was a nice player for us and obviously had some team success here. But as a grad transfer at Miami OH his team is having an awful year, and they just got swept by St. Cloud State by a combined 19-1 in two games over the weekend. Yikes. It was his decision to transfer. Rarely agree with bearlover, but yep. It sounds like hby Weder - Hockey
Fencing - 2 years ago
I know nothing about fencing but just noticed that the team is 19-0 and ranked No. 9 in the country. Cornell only has women's fencing and NCAA fencing is a coed sport, so does that mean that Cornell's best hopes are to compete for individual national championships but it isn't in the picture in the team competition?by Weder - Other Sports
Re: Women's hockey 2022 - 2 years ago
There is a large, highly touted class set to come in next season. If this season’s team can get some postseason experience things are looking very bright for the future. Right now they have the final playoff slot with games in hand over all the teams behind them.by Weder - Hockey

Trotsky Scersk '97when your alternative is the wonderfully pugnacious but diminutive Ian Burt, you do what you have to do. Was he "We gonna go?" "Um. No? "Wrong." "Oh. I guess so then." And who was that? Yacey's Mom? This was by far the best player quote from that era.by Weder - Hockey
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2022 - 2 years ago
arugula Hopkins lacrosse too? Hopkins lacrosse already was allowed to have scholarships under a grandfather clause (much like RPI, Clarkson and St. Lawrence have long had hockey scholarships). Hobart and the schools affected by the recent ruling had moved teams up to DI after whatever the cutoff date was.by Weder - Other Sports
Re: Yale game postponed - 2 years ago
Meanwhile, the Cornell women are up to 4 games they need to make up -- 3 ECAC and 1 non-conference game against Syracuse (that was the game that was supposed to be played the day there was a manhunt in Cayuga Heights). Plus, they already have a midweek game scheduled against Penn State in February.by Weder - Hockey
Re: Recruits 2023 and beyond - 2 years ago
David Harding Coach Schafer, quoted by Adam Woden, talking about Ian Shane but clearly applicable in general True hockey sense in all situations is the hardest thing to know about a player. You don't really know what you have until you see him (in college games). I didn't know the true extent. You try to understand it by watching video, but in recruiting you get fooled — some kids show more hockeby Weder - Hockey

RichH We play hockey every damn year at “The Most Famous Arena in Sports” and our opponents take care of the hosting and logistics every single time. I’m so sick of hearing the Boston Accented Disembodied voice over the PA and Mike Eruzione taking bows with Rhett dancing on our incompetent faces. Jerry York has so many wins at BC that the women’s team coach would only need 1 win to beat every other school, I think. As it stands, York and Katie Crowley are a little shy of 1200 combined wins at BC.by Weder - Hockey
