Re: National Collegiate Hockey Conference - 12 years ago
RichH Scersk '97 Robb jtwcornell91LS/FS 4 hours between games is pretty tough for a travel-partner type arrangement, but *just* doable. For reference, Google Maps says it takes 2 hrs 56 mins to travel from Hamden to Princeton, and we all know that can take much longer depending on the traffic. I would say 4 hrs through, well, no traffic to speak of is just fine. Indeed, given the lake effby Swampy - Hockey

RichH Chris '03 Why would UMD play in the second tier Mini-Mi conference when they can play with the bigger boys in Hockey West? Yeah, I guess to implement this, one would have to suspend the fact that there are egos and strong/weak concepts. I thought of moving NoDak to Mini-Mi since they're right on the Minn border anyway. Al DeFlorio Swampy billhoward Princeton is losing more than just (no-longer-eligible) seniors in lacrosse. Trotsky Miller's blurb could have been written by Schafer: "Shonn will be one of the most athletic players ever at Cornell. He also has a growing skill set, and his potential is limitless." For years Schafer seemed to have a running gag in the media guide where he would write progressively more abstract, vaguely positive player profiles which actually didn't say anything. ben03 gored How on earth did Stanwick win it? Can't believe it. he had to bust the UVA zone and didn't ... no one did. Better start practicing now. I predict we're going to see a lot more zone defense next year.by Swampy - Other Sports
Re: Lax All-Americans - 12 years ago
Robb ben03 the right player won the Tewaaraton ... it's awarded for the entirety of the season. Stanwick ended our season and won a NC ... pretty simple - he wins. This seems like a contradiction - it sounds like you're actually basing your position on a single game (the UVa-Cornell playoff game) rather than the entire season. Over the entire season, it's very clear that Panell had a better yearby Swampy - Other Sports

RichH 6' 3", 225, with a scoring touch? Oh my. Yeah, of course we have to see if they can adapt to the speed and physicality differences the US college game has versus what they're used to from the Juniors, as well as if they have the work ethic, discipline, conditioning, etc. to work their way into a Schafer-coached lineup...but there's a lot of raw materials on that list. Trotsky Ben I'm not too surprised. Hopefully this adds a little more to the fire under Pannell and the team next year.If he doubles his point title will be win? If we win the NC, yes. If UVa wins and SS plays an important role, probably not. If neither Cornell nor UVa win the NC, it's a crap shoot between the two of them on one side and the top player on the NC on the other.by Swampy - Other Sports

For those of you who haven't seen it, there's an interesting, more in-depth discussion of Cornell's lax recruiting on the Laxpower Cornell 2012 forum. A poster named "another fan" has a particularly interesting breakdown of the incoming class. It does look quite strong. Two other things that stand out and are worth bearing in mind. Re: NCAA Lacrosse Quarterfinals vs UVA - why so quiet? - 12 years ago
billhoward The forum is taking this loss pretty stoically. Because it's lacrosse not hockey? Because Virginia plain-out whupped us and we can't think of enough if-onlys to make up a four-goal margin? And the heart of the team returns in 2012, so there always is next year. In the meantime, we're likely to have one of the lowest-rated incoming classes (proving only the value of those lists) althougby Swampy - Other Sports

Ben Just to go back to the game for a moment, I thought the turning point was the shot that Ghitleman picked up off the line in the middle of the second quarter. I think it was 4-6 or 4-7 at that point, and getting a goal back would have been huge. I was sitting nearer our goal, but it looked very close to being over. Oh, what could have been.... Good article on Pannell in the Smithtown Patch. One of the quotes I like the best is Rob Pannell is tremendous honor. But I wouldn’t be in that position if I did not have the team I have behind me. It really is a compliment to my team and my coaches, and how they have helped me out. Anyone who has watched his development over the past three years would have to agree. Al DeFlorio Redscore I hope so but I can't help feeling that Rob Pannell didn't arrive here because of that approach. You make it sound like changing Cornell's "approach" is an independent variable. Chris '03 David Harding I started wondering what people were saying about Rob Pannell when he arrived. A search turned up this. Al DeFlorio phillysportsfan He said he has academic issues though, maybe he is ineligible and they couldnt get him to play even if they wanted to?That's what it sounds like, although it isn't really clear from Starsia's comment. The decision may have been out of his hands. Probably some ornery professor (maybe even a Cornell alum) won't change Bratton's grade to make him eligible.by Swampy - Other Sports
Re: NCAA Lacrosse Quarterfinals vs UVA - 12 years ago
Now more about the game. While I would have preferred another battle of the 'nells, I actually think UVa is slightly better for our boys. The Big Red are firing on almost all cylinders now, and this match-up gives us a chance to make up for one of our two losses. We've gained personnel since that game, while UVa has lost some. Although UVa had something to prove after losing the Brattons, that moby Swampy - Other Sports
