Harvard Crimson article from 2000 - 21 years ago
Just about everybody here is familiar with the infamous Volonnino piece. But for the few who haven't read it, or those desiring to read it again, here's the link:by kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: Driving directions: Ithaca to Providence - 21 years ago
When I went in May, I used the following: NY 79 to Whitney Point --> NY 206 to Bainbridge --> I-88 to Rotterdam --> I-90 (NY Thruway/Mass Pike) to Worcester --> MA/RI 146 south to Providence. I have no idea how to get to Meehan Auditorium - when I went, it was to Brown Stadium for the NCAA lax tournament.by kingpin248 - Hockey

Re: No short handed goals - 21 years ago
On ice size: The TBRW? page has the sizes of all the ECAC rinks. All are NHL regulation (200x85) except Harvard (204x87), Princeton (200x80), and Vermont (200x90).by kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: Vermont 1 @ Cornell 8 - FINAL - 21 years ago
Hornby took a misconduct (along with two minors) at the end of the second BU game. He also had a game misconduct early in the first Colgate game. I haven't been able to find a game DQ for him in the box scores.by kingpin248 - Hockey

Re: Vermont 0 @ Cornell 7 - 2nd intermission - 21 years ago
I know, Greg. Kind of like when the UVM announcers say Janet Reno is going to conduct the Cornell fight song, I presume mean the Alma Mater.by kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: Vermont 0 @ Cornell 7 - 2nd intermission - 21 years ago
There can't be 5 PPG in the second period...only four goals were scored (it was 3-0 after 1)by kingpin248 - Hockey

Re: tonight's ecac line - 21 years ago
The ECAC favorites go 4-1-1 against the CHODR spread tonight. (Vermont failed to cover; Harvard pushed.)by kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: Can I get a "nuculer"? - 21 years ago
The pronunciation seems to have changed slightly since last season. Then it was "LE-ne-view"; it's now "le-NE-view". Yes, I know I'm being pedantic.by kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: How the Top 15 Fared - 21 years ago
Here's the quote: Said Cornell head coach Mike Schafer regarding Colgate's defensive conduct during that same loss, "I told the refs that I'm sorry we didn't bring our saddles from Cornell because there was a lot of riding time out there tonight."by kingpin248 - Hockey

Re: Check it out - we finally know something! (warning: moderate geekery factor) - 21 years ago
Exactly - the goal would be 1/8, 2/7 etc. My concern was the fact that under "Quarterfinals" on the page I linked to above, it states explicitly, "Teams will be re-seeded after quarterfinals round". The same wording does not appear under "First Round". If they had specifically mentioned reseeding under both rounds, or not mentioned it at all, I would have thought noby kingpin248 - Hockey
Bracketing peculiarities? - 21 years ago
This might not be news to some, but it was to me... The schedule for the ECAC tournament is at It says that there is no reseeding after the first round. The pairings are given as 1 vs. 5/12; 2 vs. 6/11; 3 vs. 7/10; and 4 vs. 8/9. This doesn't make any sense to me at all. I would think that in each round, you'd want the highest seed playing the lowest, 2nd highest v. second lowest, and sby kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: Check it out - we finally know something! (warning: moderate geekery factor) - 21 years ago
While the crown is a nice thing to have, here are the numbers of practical importance for the conference tournament: with at least three points this weekend, Cornell clinches a home-ice berth (finish of eighth or better). The magic number of points to be certain of a bye into the ECAC quarterfinals is 9.by kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: olson twins to cornell - 21 years ago
Not only is this fake, it spawns a great number of annoying pop up ads, as Mr. Hovorka has already posted on another thread. Having said that, I would not be surprised if the story makes Page 1 of tomorrow's Daily Sun. )by kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: Quantifications - 21 years ago
I think expansion of Lynah would be difficult - if not impossible - without tearing the whole thing down and building anew. If any substantial modification were made, the entire building would have to be brought up to current fire codes - codes that were not in place in 1957. In which case, if the size of the actual building were not expanded, you might actually lose seating capacity, even if yby kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: Time well spent when your team is idle - 21 years ago
Not related to the NCAA rulebook (and I'm not sure if this has already been posted), but the ECAC has reverted to top 4/top 8 for tiebreaker comparisons (instead of the previous top 5/top 10).by kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: New Division I Hockey programs - 21 years ago
Oh yeah, I remember that. The school's name? The University of Vermont.by kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: UWM-Fri. - 21 years ago
WHCU (the actual radio feed) feed does not seem to be working. I heard a legal ID and a single commercial, but other than that, nothing but silence for about the last three minutes.by kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: NCAA Tourney - 21 years ago
The other two regional hosts are Providence College and the University of Minnesota. As for the exact way the selection process will work, there can't be any certainty as yet, because the NCAA has yet to publish the Championships Handbook online. I would think that any such handbook would not include a published bracket, so that the committee can pair the regional winners any way it desires inby kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: TBRW new look - 21 years ago
The superscripted rankings are probably intentional - there are "sup" tags in the source code. Not your problem per se, but the TBRW? menu bar no longer shows up properly when I access Whelan's TBRW? contributions from slack.net/hockey. And the Cornell "hitchhiker" blurb could be updated to reflect Lynah's current age (i.e. "more than forty-five years old"by kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: Cornell-BU (Sunday) - 21 years ago
The radio feed cut out briefly, and while it did, Cornell scored. Knoepfli (Pegoraro, Palahicky). 5-1 Cornell.by kingpin248 - Hockey
