Discussions about sports other than hockey
More committee - 21 years ago
USCHO has also reported on the rule changes for next season. Most important among these are the addition of an Olympic-style 15-second faceoff rule (with the exception of TV timeouts), as well as going to the NHL crease. The full story:by kingpin248 - Hockey

Re: Next year's schedule - 21 years ago
The official schedule is up: Exhibition opponent is York. The second (Saturday) game of the Colgate home-and-home is in Ithaca.by kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: [Lax (W)] Beating Syracuse again - 22 years ago
Georgetown beat Duke 11-4. They square off with the Big Red on Friday at 5:30 PM, at Loyola College's Curley Field.by kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: [Lax] NCAA Prospects - 22 years ago
It doesn't affect the RPI, but Hobart is a TUC for PWR purposes. The Patriot League announced that since they had a higher RPI than Army or Bucknell (the other two tri-champions), the Statesmen get the Patriot automatic bid despite being 6-7.by kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: [Lax] NCAA Prospects - 22 years ago
A word on the Swami: his credibility has to take a hit. You'll note he rigged his competition so his "hated rival," the Ivyman, got just enough of a "late pick penalty" to put Venus Lee on top. Meanwhile, where did the Swami himself finish? Dead last.by kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: [Lax] NCAA Prospects - 22 years ago
For JTW: Harvard 7, Dartmouth 6 For Greg: Tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 PDT. It will be on Empire Sports (on DirecTV ch. 626 and Dish Network ch. 432). NCAAchampionships.com also mentions something about an Internet cast. I haven't seen a link anywhere on their site. There is an audio link on Empire's site, so listening shouldn't be a problem.by kingpin248 - Hockey
Cornell 10, Hobart 6 - 22 years ago
Red finish at 10-3. Final from Providence - Princeton 12, Brown 10 Hopkins defeats Loyola 8-4. I think there's an error on the LaxPower composite schedule - Duke and Penn aren't playing today. Neither Duke nor Penn lists the game.by kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: [Lax] Automatic bid situation - 22 years ago
Auto-bids: GWLL - Fairfield ECAC - Massachusetts Ivy - Princeton (defeated Brown 12-10 today) MAAC - Manhattan (defeated Mt. St. Mary's 9-8 today) America East - Stony Brook (defeated Albany 8-6 today) Patriot League - Hobart (they had higher RPI than Army and Bucknell, the two teams with which they were tied for the regular season crown at 5-1) (nb: this post has been changiby kingpin248 - Hockey

It's official: 16 teams are in next year in both men's hockey and lacrosse. The release is atby kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: [Lax] Cornell at Princeton - 22 years ago
Two important results went against Cornell's chances for an at-large bid this weekend: (1) Georgetown lost to UMass. The Minutemen have clinched the ECAC autobid. That throws another viable team into the at-large mix. (2) Fairfield beat Notre Dame today. They clinch the GWLL title and autobid. However, another team from the GWLL will go, because of the "regional representation"by kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: [Lax] Greenhalgh! - 22 years ago
Greenhalgh was knocked out in the first quarter of the UMBC game and did not return. He also completely sat out the Penn State game.by kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: [Lax] 4/15 Coaches Poll: Cornell #5 - 22 years ago
The coaches have spoken - and they have also said Cornell is #5. Syracuse dropped from first to fourth. Princeton, with its blowout of Harvard on Saturday, moves up three spots to #8.by kingpin248 - Hockey
Swami says... - 22 years ago
From the latest "This Week," without the annoying music: At Ithaca... Five minutes before the Syracuse-Cornell lacrosse game, cascading sheets of rain pelted Schoellkopf Field last Tuesday. It washed away the detritus left by an earlier dirty snow, along with the playoff hopes of (most likely) an ACC team. For on this day 2,645 fans witnessed an upset of major proportions which is senby kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: [Lax] PWR for lacrosse? - 22 years ago
I can answer #1, since I gave the scores to JTW: (which still says SU scored 12 against us) I removed the games played against non-D1 opponents from the data I sent to John (I believe there were only six). Two things I can think of right now. One is the RPI distribution. The championships handbook (see link below) makes no mention of the formula to be used, so it's possible that it cby kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: Exhibition game question - 22 years ago
Might have been Guelph - I remember some friends mentioning it (it was before I got here).by kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: [Lax] Syracuse at Cornell - 22 years ago
New poll just out - Cornell goes to #9. Duke's drop from 8 to 12 facilitated the upward move. Syracuse remains #1, although with only 5 of the 10 first place votes.by kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: [Off-topic] Lacrosse - 22 years ago
Automatic qualification is relatively new in men's lacrosse - I believe it was only first instituted for the 2000 tournament. This year, six conferences get automatic bids: America East, ECAC, Great Western Lacrosse League, Ivy League, MAAC, and Patriot League. I wonder what the Swami will have to say about the craziness of this past weekend...by kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: SCSU was screwed - 22 years ago
The net was quite open for Hartigan to deposit the rubber disk into it. The puck rolled off his stick after he got Blackburn down.by kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: YES Network carrying games! - 22 years ago
Unfortunately for those of us in Ithaca, TWC isn't adding YES to its cable lineup until next Tuesday.by kingpin248 - Hockey
McDonald comments on USCHO - 22 years ago

Re: Milestones - 22 years ago
TBRW? gives Cornell's record against Clarkson as 39-43-8. It's possible you might be forgetting the game last year at Cheel (Clarkson won 2-0).by kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: Moy/Blaeser this week - 22 years ago
The CCHA play-in games are Friday. Semifinals Saturday, final at 3:00 pm Sunday. That's why the selection show is at 9:00 PM on Sunday this year.by kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: Milestones - 22 years ago
According to something I read a while back on USCHO, freshman ineligibility was the reason why the perfect 1956 Clarkson team refused a bid to the NCAA tournament - their seniors would not have been allowed to play. I found the article:by kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: Biting Sun Article - 22 years ago
With respect to the comment about marginalizing athletic programs, I think Schueller was referring to the lead article on the front page of Thursday's Sun, which talks about discussions to possibly reduce the number of recruited athletes across the board. According to the article, it's basically a non-issue for Cornell, since only about 10% of each class is comprised of recruited student-athleteby kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: PWR after Saturday - 22 years ago
One team I would be rooting against is Wisconsin. From the way the pairwise looks now, it looks like the WCHA's top four look fairly good to make the tournament. If Wisconsin wins its tournament and joins them, that could take another at-large bid. I think it's unlikely, but just the same, I don't want to see it happen.by kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: PWR after Saturday - 22 years ago
It's not who they played, it's where they are in the process of moving up to D-I. I think they're in the second year of a two-year transitional period.by kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: PWR after Saturday - 22 years ago
Cornell will remain eighth at the conclusion of all games tonight. (The outcome of Ferris v. Fairbanks is irrelevant, according to JTW's script)by kingpin248 - Hockey
