Re: YES tape-delaying Cornell semifinal? - 21 years ago
They could tape-delay both semifinals, broadcasting the Cornell game at 7 and the Harvard game at 10.by kingpin248 - Hockey

Re: RPI and RPI & PWR - 21 years ago
Can't say what Vegas (or your offshore Internet gambling venue of choice) would give you, but KRACH makes CC a 35-1 favorite over UAA, and Cornell about a 17-1 favorite over Rensselaer.by kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: 3/10 Polls - 21 years ago
Another problem with ELO, completely unrelated to hockey - it's one of the computer rankings used in the BC$ (under the auspices of Jeff Sagarin).by kingpin248 - Hockey

Re: Impending hysteria for NCAA tickets... - 21 years ago
400 is the number given in the championship handbook. I can't say whether CU even has the option to buy more. Also, as has been noted previously (particularly by Chris Parkin), it's a good bet most of those will be distributed within the athletic department - so don't be surprised if Cornell doesn't put any tickets up for sale.by kingpin248 - Hockey

Lax 3/8: Cornell 5 @ Hofstra 13 FINAL - 21 years ago
It's finally over. The Big Red was sloppy all day. It seemed like every few minutes I heard the words "another Cornell turnover." Hofstra is certainly a very good team, but this doesn't bode well for the rest of Cornell's season.by kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: OT: Lax - 21 years ago
BTW, to answer Greg's questions - yes, the NCAA men's lax tournament is 16 teams this year. Seven conferences receive AQ's - America East, Colonial Athletic Association, ECAC, Great Western, Ivy, MAAC, and Patriot League.by kingpin248 - Hockey
Lax 3/8: Cornell 4 @ Hofstra 11 (4th qtr) - 21 years ago
Hofstra continues to dominate, retaking a seven-goal lead. 12:56 to go. Post Edited (03-08-03 15:10)by kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: OT: Lax - 21 years ago
Hofstra with a 2-0 lead, four minutes in today...it sounds like they're dominating possession early. Cornell with one shot off the post. you can listen with a link from (there is no standard radio broadcast from Cornell's side) Post Edited (03-08-03 13:44)by kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: Weekend Playoff Predictions - 21 years ago
They did change the rules three years ago. Recall that in game 1 of the 00/01 first round series versus Princeton, the GWG was scored at 7:25 of overtime. There were also two double-overtime games in last years' first-round series (Dartmouth/Colgate game 1; Harvard/Brown game 2).by kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: Weekend Playoff Predictions - 21 years ago
Your Colgate prediction can't be completely correct. There are no ties in the playoffs. My predictions: Brown in 2 Union in 3 Clarkson in 2 Colgate in 3by kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: Games per year - 21 years ago
Here's a quote from Yale coach Tim Taylor on the subject, taken from a Wodon article published 31 May 2001: Said Taylor, "Ivy hockey always cued itself off basketball. They played 26 games, so that's where hockey was. Basketball across the country doesn't start until November 1, so that seemed like a good time to start. This goes back to the '60s. So gradually we expanded under the Ivy umby kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: League play - 21 years ago
Personally, I prefer the ECAC's balanced schedule, because everything is equalized - both in terms of opponents played and home advantage. I think it's the fairest apportionment of opponents. You also have to consider the implications for the Ivy League. If you play Princeton four times in a season and Dartmouth only twice, how do you handle that? Do you just say that two of the games againstby kingpin248 - Hockey

Re: TBRW Statistical Reflections on the 2003 RS - 21 years ago
On the subject of the Ivy League championships - the web site's listings for hockey become more curious in light of the fact that for many other sports (basketball, lacrosse, soccer, football), champions are only listed from 1955-56 (1956 for football), which I believe was when full round-robin play began (though the Ivy Group Agreement was signed in 1954).by kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: ECAC Final Seedings - 21 years ago
John Stead asks: When was the last time the top five seeds at the end of the season were Ivies? Prior to this year, the Ivies had never held the top four seeds in the tournament. They had the top three in 85/86 (Harvard, Yale, Cornell).by kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: NCAA Championships Handbook - 21 years ago
I was hinting at the switch to having the two teams emerging from the Eastern regional meet in one national semifinal, and the two teams from the West in the other. This meant the only possible game between teams from different regions was the final. The committee just threw out the published bracket because it became inconvenient, something which irked a lot of fans.by kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: NCAA Championships Handbook - 21 years ago
Well, it's good to know we won't have to worry about the RPI modification. Because the Committee never, ever deviates from the published criteria.by kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: Princeton Game - anyone going to New Jersey? - 21 years ago
To answer John, I found this in a USCHO article: The award is named in honor of the late Patty Kazmaier, who was a four-year varsity letterwinner and All-Ivy League honoree for Princeton from 1981-82 through 1985-86. An accomplished athlete who excelled in ice hockey, field hockey and lacrosse, Patty Kazmaier-Sandt died on Feb. 15, 1990, at the age of 28 following a long struggle with a rare bloby kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: ECAC possibilities - 21 years ago
In a tie between only those four teams: Vermont wins the first application (8-4 PF-PA against the other three). SLU wins the next (6 F, 2 A v. Clarkson and Colgate). Clarkson wins the final application (swept Colgate). None of these teams play each other on the final weekend, so this resolution won't change. Throw Union into the mix, and the Dutchmen beat all the others on the first apby kingpin248 - Hockey
