Re: Columbia football aftermath - 12 years ago
I saw an AP article today that said Columbia's coach was fired after having a winless season. Did the reporter go to Brown?by Swampy - Other Sports

peterg inch by inch "high school, college, and UCLA." Maybe someone who's good with video can do something with this. Then again, here's the Title 9 version. However, I think it's not "Niagara," but "Niagara Falls." Or, it could be Martha or Katie. Another version with Errol Flynn here.by Swampy - Hockey

Robb Cornell is challenging enough even if you don't have a complication like OCD. Best of luck to Philippe in making what must be a very tough decision. Any therapist alums out there living in Ithaca and who might work with PH, MS, and staff to help Philippe? He also should be eligible for disability accommodations. McGill is a good school and may not have the limitations the NCAA imposes.by Swampy - Hockey

Re: Lacrosse 2012 - 12 years ago
Ben Not the best of showings at the Colleluori Classic, but I went back and checked...we didn't do all that well last year either (and Coach DeLuca wasn't particularly pleased with Cornell's showing). One has to go with what Coach DeLuca says, but the Cornell 2012 forum on Laxpower has more details. Many of the contributors are former Cornell laxmen, so the posts are very knowledgeable.by Swampy - Other Sports
Re: ECACs to Providence? - 12 years ago
nyc94 Mostly unrelated but I thought it worth mentioning the Atlantic 10 will move their basketball tournament from Atlantic City to Brooklyn in 2013. Maybe they're moving because they expect Temple to jump to the Big East after UConn & Rutgers (or WVa) jump to the ACC.by Swampy - Hockey
Re: New Recruit - Ryan Bliss - 12 years ago
Interesting, last month BBall got a commitment from Tim Higgins, reported to be the earliest Ivy commitment ever. Now we also have the youngest recruit in the ECAC. Lacrosse, on the other hand, seems to be going the opposite route, with Cornell having the largest group of post-graduate top-10 players in D-I. Let's hope that extremism pans out.by Swampy - Hockey
Re: Syracuse to the ACC - 12 years ago
Another story on Syracuse going to the ACC in Laxpower. There's a bit of pretentiousness in some of the statements by SU officials. One is the statement from SU's Chancellor and President, Nancy Cantor, who said, "We are pleased that Syracuse adds a New York City dimension to the ACC." It's a safe bet her appointment is not in the Geography Department. Another is athletics directoby Swampy - Other Sports
Re: Syracuse to the ACC - 12 years ago
ugarte Holy crap. I was so wrapped up in what a kick in the teeth this would be for Big East basketball I didn't even think about what this would mean for lax. I wonder if the ACC will try to pull in a sixth program to get a tournament and an AQ. Not that they need it. Rumor has it that Rutgers and UConn are the next to leave the BE sinking ship. So Rutgers would bring the number up to six, andby Swampy - Other Sports

Rita And another "pre-ponement". Oakland A's v. the Red Sox, double header on Saturday. Saturday game at noon, Sunday's game at 5 pm. And a Kenny Chesney concert scheduled for Sunday at Gillette Stadium has been pre-poned to Friday.by Swampy - Hockey

Al DeFlorio bas23 Back in 2009, the (Hilton New York? I think) had some group rate deal for that weekend for Red Hot Hockey attendees, unless I'm completely mistaken. Any idea if there's anything similar for this year? Hotels in Manhattan are, uh, pricey.Friends have said they've gotten pretty good rates at a La Quints located in midtown and I've seen OK rates at the Hampton Inns in Chelsea andby Swampy - Hockey

Re: Nice motivational story on Cornell QB Jeff Mathews - 12 years ago
Al DeFlorio CAS Just want us to be competitive in the Ivies. Beat the teams on our schedule. Finish the season with a win over Penn for the Ivy championship. Look at all our recent success in wrestling, lax, hockey, and hoops. The one hole is football. Let's bring it back!Right. I don't want Cornell to become Ohio State. RichH Scersk '97 Robb jtwcornell91LS/FS 4 hours between games is pretty tough for a travel-partner type arrangement, but *just* doable. For reference, Google Maps says it takes 2 hrs 56 mins to travel from Hamden to Princeton, and we all know that can take much longer depending on the traffic. I would say 4 hrs through, well, no traffic to speak of is just fine. Indeed, given the lake effby Swampy - Hockey

Chris '03 ithacat Chris '03There's also the (very?) outside chance the big east is thinking about a hockey conference... Is any other school talking about starting a program, other than Syracuse? Connor Buczek selected to U.S. Men's U19 team. He's the only Cornell recruit on the list. Harvard has 3 (one a current frosh), as does Virginia. No other Ivy players named.by Swampy - Other Sports

jtwcornell91 Jim Hyla From the previously mentioned link "How it this possible?", provided by David Harding: To fund the initiative, Cornell is reallocating funds, increasing its endowment payout , and seeking new scholarship gifts for domestic and international students. RichH Chris '03 Why would UMD play in the second tier Mini-Mi conference when they can play with the bigger boys in Hockey West? Yeah, I guess to implement this, one would have to suspend the fact that there are egos and strong/weak concepts. I thought of moving NoDak to Mini-Mi since they're right on the Minn border anyway. Al DeFlorio Swampy billhoward Princeton is losing more than just (no-longer-eligible) seniors in lacrosse. Mike Chanenchuk, Ivy rookie of the year in 2010 and injured this year (and not in school since last fall), plans to transfer. Maybe to Maryland if it's not already a done deal. Trotsky Miller's blurb could have been written by Schafer: "Shonn will be one of the most athletic players ever at Cornell. He also has a growing skill set, and his potential is limitless." For years Schafer seemed to have a running gag in the media guide where he would write progressively more abstract, vaguely positive player profiles which actually didn't say anything. ben03 gored How on earth did Stanwick win it? Can't believe it. he had to bust the UVA zone and didn't ... no one did. Better start practicing now. I predict we're going to see a lot more zone defense next year.by Swampy - Other Sports
Re: Lax All-Americans - 12 years ago
Robb ben03 the right player won the Tewaaraton ... it's awarded for the entirety of the season. Stanwick ended our season and won a NC ... pretty simple - he wins. This seems like a contradiction - it sounds like you're actually basing your position on a single game (the UVa-Cornell playoff game) rather than the entire season. Over the entire season, it's very clear that Panell had a better yearby Swampy - Other Sports

RichH 6' 3", 225, with a scoring touch? Oh my. Yeah, of course we have to see if they can adapt to the speed and physicality differences the US college game has versus what they're used to from the Juniors, as well as if they have the work ethic, discipline, conditioning, etc. to work their way into a Schafer-coached lineup...but there's a lot of raw materials on that list. Trotsky Ben I'm not too surprised. Hopefully this adds a little more to the fire under Pannell and the team next year.If he doubles his point title will be win? If we win the NC, yes. If UVa wins and SS plays an important role, probably not. If neither Cornell nor UVa win the NC, it's a crap shoot between the two of them on one side and the top player on the NC on the other.by Swampy - Other Sports
