Re: ECAC Inferiority - 13 years ago
Cornell needs revenue from home games. Hence, teams like Niagara and Wayne State come to Lynah, instead of Cornell traveling to Madison or Ann Arbor or BC or whatever for the kinds of games that would really make us better.by ebilmes - Hockey
Re: NCAA regionals 2011 - 13 years ago
Michigan looked good tonight against CC. Very (pre-2011) Cornell-like how they basically shut down CC once they had a lead and allowed very few shots on goal. CC showed flashes of life at the end and might have been able to tie, but a questionable penalty call with ~3 mins remaining pretty much sealed the deal for Michigan. Michigan fans had a nice "black hole" cheer at one point. I'by ebilmes - Hockey

BigRedHockeyFan Jordan 04 CC putting on quite a show. BC forgot to play defense. BC is a good team, but their defense last night was horrible. CC had a lot of great looks from right in front of the net. Several of those were stoppable (I was surprised they left Muse in after the fifth goal), especially one that hit the top of Muse's glove and went into the net. BC was a much larger team and sby ebilmes - Hockey
Re: Cu - 0 Yale - ECAC finals (postgame) - 13 years ago
Just watched that clip of "The Shift" for the first time in a while. Notice how much the Cornell players were hustling to pucks along the boards. Last night, especially in the defensive end, this kind of effort was not present. Some times, all it would have taken was one D-man hustling to a puck, then two sharp passes, and we'd be back in the neutral zone. Instead, it was Yale dancinby ebilmes - Hockey
Re: Atlantic City-ECAC hockey attendance fiasco - 13 years ago
Keep in mind that Albany was roughly on the way home for a lot of Cornell students. If you lived in New England, capital district, downstate, Jersey, then it wasn't unreasonable to stop in Albany on your way to or from spring break. It was also easier to find places to stay, since hotels weren't as expensive and there were plenty of colleges in the area where you might have friends. At 2.5 hoursby ebilmes - Hockey

Jim Hyla mha Leaving Atlantic City by 6am Sunday sounds sufficiently painful that it's unlikely I'd pull it off, but it's still an option in the back of my head.Same for me, see how I feel Sun AM. Some of us are taking the 6am flight out of ACY on Sunday... Do it for the team(s)!by ebilmes - Hockey

Wasn't there a similar situation a couple of years ago when the video replay was not available and a call went against Cornell? It just seems ridiculous that we are still having these problems.by ebilmes - Hockey
Re: Alumni in the Pros_ March 2011 - 13 years ago
More on Greening: Greening, meanwhile, is a tantalizing prospect. He looks even bigger than the 6-foot-3, 211-lbs. he’s listed at, and he can fly, as the new fastest lap record he set at the team’s skills contest can attest. Indeed, he has power forward written all over him. Also 24, Greening played on the Senators top line in Tuesday’s game versus the Bruins, and he did not look out of plby ebilmes - Hockey

Re: Alumni in the Pros - February 2011 - 13 years ago
Greening is doing well in practice, at least: On Monday, during the team's skills competition, rookie Colin Greening also made a surprisingly good showing, setting a new team record in the fastest skater competition and challenging Matt Carkner for the team's hardest shot. Re: Harvard 3, Cornell 3, 3rd period, 11:28 left - 13 years ago
Just want to clarify that the bench minor was the only Harvard PP that Cornell was able to successfully kill off. So, as stupid as the fans are who threw fish and other objects, that penalty was not the turning point in the game.by ebilmes - Hockey
Re: Cornell Wrestling article in Philly Inquirer - 13 years ago
Aside from its academic reputation, Cornell has another advantage. While most Ivy League schools are private institutions, three of its colleges - Agriculture and Life Science, Human Ecology, and Industrial and Labor Relations - are affiliated with the State University of New York system and, as such, have slightly easier admission requirements. Re: Alumni in the Pros - February 2011 - 13 years ago
Recall that we often criticized Brendon Nash for being too aggressive offensively. He would carry the puck deep into the zone and then be out of position to cover a rush going back the other way. Or, he would make poor shot choices from the point on the powerplay that would lead to 2x1s the other way. This same offensive-mindedness might be seen as an asset at the professional level, where teamsby ebilmes - Hockey

Jim HylaThis is a minor trend that bothers me. Protecting a lead used to be our strength. From October 2002 to November 2009 (I don't feel like updating), the team was 115-4-7 when leading after two periods.by ebilmes - Hockey

B-Sens First Quarter Grades: #15 Colin Greening, A. He is basically Chris Kelly with more size and less speed. He's a little older than some other prospects after spending time at Cornell, but the NHL could be in his future if he continues along this path. He's as honest a player as there is and a tremendous human being off of the playing surface. He's found a home playing with Butler and Coreyby ebilmes - Hockey
Re: Yale 4 @ Cornell 2_ 11/19 - 13 years ago
I only saw a few minutes of the Yale game, but I don't know why every team doesn't send two forecheckers against Cornell. Yale usually does this for at least part of the game against us and has now won 5 (6?) in a row. Memorably, St. Lawrence was able to frustrate us by doing this during that awful 8-1 affair in Canton. I know the talent level of this year's team is a little lower than what we haby ebilmes - Hockey
Re: Alumni in the Pros - November 2010 - 13 years ago
In Binghamton, Greening is playing on the top line with Bobby Butler. Lots of quotes in the article. "I think what we did makes perfect sense," coach Kurt Kleinendorst said. "Colin Greening is the perfect fit for Corey Locke and Bobby Butler. He's big, he's strong, he competes, he works, he's a great first man in on the forecheck. He really elevated both Corey's and Bobby's games.by ebilmes - Hockey
Re: Cornell 0 St. Lawrence 3 (final) - 13 years ago
At the risk of stating the obvious, this seems like an interesting turn of the tables from previous years. Recently, we've been one of the last undefeated teams in the NCAA, or the last one-loss team in the NCAA, due to a late start, some weak OOC opponents, and a strong ECAC weekend or two. The team would rise in the polls, expectations would rise, and we'd see an eventual coming back to earth oby ebilmes - Hockey
